Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ (emphasis added).

-- 1 Peter 1:13
In today’s verse, you and I are shown the first step toward living a godly, holy life: disciplining our minds.
When Peter says to “prepare your minds for action,” he’s saying, “Get your mind in gear and get focused.” Because one of the major problems many Christians face is lazy thinking!
They aren’t clear on who they are or what they believe.
This is a critical issue because the way you think impacts your character, your actions, and your witness. Think about how David got into trouble with Bathsheba.
He was meandering around the palace rather than being in battle with his soldiers, and that’s when he saw Bathsheba. He allowed his mind to lust, that lust turned into adultery, and a series of tragic sins followed that nearly brought down his kingdom. This is what can happen when our minds are not in gear!
So what’s the key to disciplining your mind? Paul put it this way in Philippians 4:8: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (emphasis added).
The Lord is calling you and me to live and think at a higher level. So today, ask him to help you become mentally tough and to let your thought life be controlled by him.
