Starting an Emergency Fund

Okay,
I'm starting my emergency fund TODAY. I will but putting $5 in an envelope in my dresser. This will serve as the emergency fund until I have enough to open a savings account. I hope to have at least $200 by the end of December 2009. I also hope to have my car paid off by December 2009 (we owe about $1700.00). By the end of April I hope to have $1000 in the emergency fund.
Anyone who has done the Dave Ramsey program, I am open for suggestions. This is the program we are trying to stick to.
