Day 16 - 1/16/09

Posted 01-17-2009 at 12:20:18 PM by Macaela25

DH spent $11 on gas.

I spent my lunch break running around to different pharmacies and the hospital getting payment printouts for our taxes. In the past if I was running errands during lunch I would have stopped for fast food, but today I planned ahead and packed a sandwich and banana for the car.

I've read that it takes 30 days to break a habit or establish new ones - I hope that's the case, because this whole spending diet is easier than I thought. I think my $5 per day morning drive-thru habit has been broken (fingers crossed). Breakfast in the morning with DH and DS is so much cheaper and so much nicer!

DH's coworker told him to let me know there was a phenomenal sale going on at JCPenney right now. DH shrugged and said, "But there's nothing we need," and went on to explain about our spending diet. Yes, I could have gone and bought a few sizes ahead for DS, but DH is right - there is nothing we need right now. There will be other sales.

Here's to breaking old habits!

Week 3
Gas $11
Food/Other $28.32

Week 2 Total: $94.95
Week 1 Total: $71.06

Girl, I could have saved you time & gas. I know you have Cigna health insurance, so you can use their website (mycigna.com) to view all the claims you have had for the year, plus see all of your out-of-pocket expenses. Also, did you know you all count all the mileage (.505 for Jan-Jun, and .585 for Jul-Dec) you drive to and from appts/procedures/etc.? That is one benefit I get for having an orthopedist 120 miles away!
