Day 9 - 1/9/09

Posted 01-10-2009 at 08:44:11 AM by Macaela25

I ended up bringing snacks to tide us over until we got home from Orlando. I had to work through lunch; I'd planned on going home to prepare a small car picnic, but those plans were foiled. We raced home - it was mighty hard to pass all those fast food places and nice restaurants I love! We had a wonderful time though, and it was sooooo nice to spend some time with DH.

I will need to go to the grocery store tomorrow, and I'll need gas after the trip to Orlando. I know DH will buy gas tomorrow as well.

Spending to date:

Gas $13.39
Groceries/Other: $49.42

Girl, You are killing me. My totals to date are:

    Birthday gifts/shoe repair: $97
    Gas: $46
FSA spending: $63 (doesn't really count since I will get reimbursed)
Lunches out: $10.95 (due to training and jury duty)
    Other: $52.27

    Per Diem earned: $17.12

Although I have not been as stellar, this idea has done one great thing for me - I really stop and think before I buy something now. It is very easy for me to fall into the same rut that my peers are in - just living for today and not thinking about tomorrow. But a nice reality check (like my finanacial advisor telling me I will need to save an additional $1000 each month to meet my retirement goals 40 years away) will sure slap you in the face.

Well, this is your first time doing this...you'll get better as you go along. Whatever makes you stop and think before you buy is a good thing. You don't want end up like someone we both know, with a garage stuffed full of junk that haven't seen the light of day in years.

An EXTRA $1000 a month? Are you planning to keep me and Yakko through your retirement too? I know, I know...you're taking us on a cruise around the world...
