Ground Beef and Condoms 10/13/2006

Posted 05-21-2008 at 07:21:43 AM by Macaela25

DH has the day off, and I stayed home with the baby who is still not over his stomach virus (Diarrhea + five month old = STRESS!) Since we wanted to leave our weekend free and relaxed, we decided to risk "getting the deals done" with a somewhat cranky and highly explosive (if you know what I mean) infant. We are home on a temporary hiatus because both DS and DH needed a nap after only 3 stores (WIMPS!). Here's our results:

Went to Goodyear to change the oil in DH's car. Gave the guy a coupon from some mailer for an oil change + tire rotation for $14.99, which is a pretty nifty little deal. The owner was none too happy and nearly read the print right off the coupon trying to find a reason why he couldn't take it. Finally he did, and we dropped the car.

Went to Winn Dixie to stock up on .98/lb ground beef and some cheap fruits and veggies. While there we found trial packs for Quaker Instant Oatmeal Crunch for $1 - I happened to have a few $1/1 Smartsource q's with me, so I got 5. The guy from Goodyear called DH twice while we were there to tell him about the $1500 worth of "preventitive maintainance" that he needs to have IMMEDIATELY! Right. DH thanked him kindly for his concern and hung up. My BIL will flush a cooling system, radiator, and replace the belts for parts and lunch. $1500...geesh. I guess we look stupid.

We ended up getting approximately 16 lbs of ground beef, a cantaloupe, 2 lbs of fresh green beans, 1 lb of mushrooms, and 5 boxes of oatmeal for $20.80.

That was pretty cool...I liked that trip.

CVS was pretty much the same as what everyone else is doing. 1 Playtex sport (I used my last $2.50 coupon), 5 MaxFresh, 2 little rattly things to use for stocking stuffers for the baby for Christmas, and a bottle of baby vitamins. I spent less than $1 OOP, $27.77 in ECBs and will get back approx. $20 in ECBs. I was so glad to get the baby vitamins with my CVS play money - that stuff is expensive!! I also found the little ready feed cans of Isomil formula for the baby - I was excited because the Isomil version is really hard to find and we are down to 3. They aren't cheap either - $10.49 for 9 cans (1 serving in each can). We try REALLY hard to conserve them as long as possible, but they are really good to keep in the diaper bag when you are out too long between feedings or when traveling. Dragging a cooler full of bottles through Walt Disney World is no fun. Am I rambling? Ummm...yeah. Anyway, I'll pick up a pack of those with an ECB and a coupon later.

Publix was last - by this time the baby was getting cranky. I only had a few specific items to get. We got 16 jars of Gerber baby food (beef and vegs, which is more expensive usually) on clearance for .25 apiece, and 2 RAOK coupons from Diva Dynamite for $1/8 Gerber jars made them .12 apiece. Diva!! I got 5 more Sudacare Shower Soothers for free (on sale 2/$6, and in the same flyer there is a $3 off q for them). It amazes me that people don't figure these deals out...Publix does them all the time and they are SO obvious! These little jokers are $8 in CVS. Oh well...more for me. I have about 25 packs now though, and what I don't send back to Ukraine will probably end up in a yard sale. There's only so much of this stuff you can use. Grabbed 4 bottles of soda, since we finally ran out after all the summer soda deals. Most importantly, we got four boxes of condoms on clearance for $3.99 less the $1 coupons I found in the last couple boxes we bought. Yes, condoms are an important commodity around here...we'd like a little sister, but not until the baby is potty-trained, thank you! :flush:

So, all this plus some 2 tubes of crescent rolls (yum) for $19.96.

I wonder how many people use coupons when they buy condoms.

I'm going to go back to Winn Dixie later and get 15 more oatmeals and a Hamburger Helper that will be free with a $1/1 (they are $10/10). I guess I'll have to get some more ground beef so that I'm actually paying for something and won't look weird. We have 25 lbs already though, and I only have so much freezer space. I'm overblowing the grocery budget this week on ground beef, but we'll soon have two extra people to feed - so hopefully we'll have ground beef through Thanksgiving at least.

I'll be so glad to see turkey by then. Bgok bgok!!
