Gotta get this weight off

2007 was a tough year between the emotional side of dealing with my brother and his kids and all their drama, and then being in that car wreck (which took several months to just feel normal again), changing jobs, starting back to school, sick kids.....the list goes on and on.

Over the course of the year, nearly 40 pounds slipped back on. I was really close to my goal weight and it just sucks that things sort of spiraled out of control on the weight side of things.

And when I am stressed, I am a regular coke drinker, which is where my extra calories come from.

But I've had it. I bought a new scale this week, and it actually weighed me 5 pounds heavier than the old scale.

So, I am going to try and jump back on the exercise horse (been 3 times this week to the gym for at least 40 minutes of exercise) and then I am going to go back to the protien in the AM, no carbs before noon thing which worked for me before.

What really sucks is that you start drinking water like you're supposed to, and suddenly, you're weighing 4 more pounds.

But we're going skiing next month and I think exercising ahead of that will help.

So I am going to use my rant and rave blog to rant and rave about how much I think dieting and exercise sucks, but also attempt to keep myself accountable. I read that if you're religious about writing it down, it helps. I'd like to keep to about 1600-1800 calories a day.

1/17/08

Exercise - 40 minutes
Food - 1z beef jerkey - 100 calories, 1 string cheese - 80 calories.

It's 11 am and I haven't had any carbs yet.

Adding to the food:

Peanutbutter pretzel things (totally addicted to them!!!) - 210 calories
Applesauce - 70 calories
fruit leather - 45 calories
bagel - 100 calories
cream cheese - 50 calories
tuna sandwich - 250

Total so far - 905

Gotta still do dinner and a snack in class tonight - I am a total muncher when I am in class, and class is 3 hours long.

Had 3/4 an apple before dinner - 70 calories
8 shrimp scampi and rice - 578

Puts me at 1553, so I can pack a snack for school and should be right on target for the night!

let's just all agree to like ourselves for who we are and who we have become and got off this diet roller coaster. so many of us are on again off again...and for what? and as most women are, I am a stress eater...get on the scale don't like what I see...eat some more...feel bad...eat again...does it ever end?

life as women is hard enough without having to worry about looking great in a bikini...or even shorts...so let's all band together and put the diet industry out of business :)

Jane4girls,

I do like me - believe me, but with 3 active boys and paranoia about dying early, it's better to get the weight off and do it sensibly.

I still am going to eat what I want - it's just about how it's organized in my day. The exception to this is the soda - that is my downfall and if I cut that out, the weight will come off pretty quick.

Thanks for the support though - it's much appreciated!

I totally hear you about the soda. I probably drink about 4 -5 cans a day. Like I was telling my DH last night, if I just cut back to even just 1 a day, I'd probably see a dramatic difference in my weight and how I feel in general. Plus I'm not a breakfast eater (would rather have soda). Probably just changing those two habits would make a world of difference for me. Good luck with your goals!

my problems are not even soda...dont drink it. it is everything else...working from home, I nibble all day..although this year so far I am down 9 lbs and holding...need 5 more to go, then 5 more after that, then one more 5 more, lol.

keep doing what you are doing..and yes I hear tracking it helps.

Well, got up and went to the gym this morning - worked out on the treadmill and the bike - burned 600 calories!

Had:

1/2 cup cottage cheese - 90 calories
2 ounces beef jerkey - 200 calories

Not sure what the calories are in here, but I am going to guess on the high side and say that lunch was 1300 calories - we went out to Sweet Tomatoes. I had:

1.5 glasses straweberry lemonade - 200
1 cup of chicken broth with a little bacon - 50crumbles and 5 saltine crackers - 100
Oriental chicken salad - 170
green salad with carrots and dressing -200 calories
1/2 c of spiral noodles - 100 calories
1/2 c of shells with some kind of sauce on them - 185 calories
1 blueberry muffin - 140 calories
3/4 c soft serve ice cream with a little caramel and chocolate on it - 210 calories

I am thinking that my estimates might be on the high side, but I'd rather be on the high side than the low side.

So total in for the day right now is about 1600 calories.

We're going to have fish and salad and some roasted veggies for dinner which will likely put me a bit over for the day, but by and large it was a pretty healthy mix so far.

Well, I went quite a bit over my intended calories yesterday... but it was all healthy stuff at the end of the night - fish, veggies, fruit.

Today's been a good day so far....

Cottage cheese - 90
bacon - 80

Flatout bread - 100 calories
cream cheese - 100 calories
smoked salmon - 30 calories
lettuce - 30 calories
bacon bits - 60 calories
applesauce - 70 calories
salad dressing - 150 calories
cucumber - 5 calories

So 715 calories so far for the day and I do feel pretty full. I was down a pound this morning on the scale and I got in a half-hour on the treadmill at the gym!

:encourage12:Good for you!!! Keep up the good work and don't give up. Thanks for including us in your endeavors. It is a great reminder to all of us to try to be a little more healthy. All things in moderation. Every little bit helps. Both calcium and green tea have been helping me lose. I'm not able to excercise much, but I am going to try to do better and at least try to walk a little more, maybe even in the pool. With the cold weather a cup of hot green tea with a little honey and milk seem to be helping and I wasn't even trying.

Thanks Aclowers!

What I've read (and I know from having done it before) is that writing it down helps make you more conscious of what you put in your mouth.

So, I was up to 715 calories earlier today.

I had:

1 fruit leather - 45 calories
1 tangerine - 50 calories
8z pasta - 360 calories
2 T. alfredo mix - 60 calories
1 c. milk - 120 calories
salmon - 40 calories
4z shrimp - 80 calories
1 T bacon bits - 30 calories
salad mix - 10 calories
1 piece garlic toast - 110 calories
salad dressing - 90 calories
1 T pesto - 72 calories

So, 1067 calories for snack and dinner, which I splurged on dinner and made a seafood pesto pasta.

Brings the total so far to 1782. I might have to have a sip of milkshake though - DH is making them for the kids and he makes the best shakes on the planet!

Yep - went for the milkshake - had 4z portion for 156 calories.

Total intake today then - 1938. I bit over the 1800 cap again, but under 2000 calories, so I figure anything under is a plus.

It will be water for the rest of the night!

Speaking of milkshakes we just love to make protein shakes. You can buy the mix at Wal-mart, it is in a huge jug for about $12. Body Fortress Whey Protein powder. I think it calls for 2 scoops, but we only use one. Mix in a blender with 8 oz of milk (my son likes his with water), crushed ice and a banana. Filling with vitamins and not fattening. It can replace one or two meals a day if you need a jumpstart or a booster. The banana is great in chocolate shakes or vanilla either one.

I mnight need to look into protein shakes cause I really do like milkshakes.

Well, today was a bust. I think overall I didn't do too bad considering that we were gone all day and weren't in a position to do much with packing snacks.

We went to that Walking with Dinosaurs show that's traveling around the country. Great show - bad concessions.

We took the kids out to McD's before the show. I had a plain hamburger happy meal and had a coke ***GASP***, the first one I'd had in several days.

Then at the show, I had a bit of popcorn with the kids - we shared one bucket between 5 of us and I didn't eat a ton cause I wasn't sharing a drink with my little backwash nasty kids! I'd rather die in the sahara than share a drink with the kids. YUCK! But at $3.75 for a 20z bottle of water, I wasn't going to be bothered by having a drink there.

And I had 2 pieces of red licorice.

When I got home, I had an ounce of jerkey, and a can of sprite (yes, 2 sodas today) and then I had a wrap sandwich at dinner, and I made funnel cakes with the kids and shared one with the boys.

So not a ton of food, but not the best choices and no exercise today.

DH and I are going to try and hit the gym tomorrow. He has the day off but we're taking the kids to daycare so we can get some things done around the house since he is going out of town this week.

So, tomorrow will be a better day and I'll try to write down the calories again.

Good day so far again....

Breakfast -

Cottage cheese - 90 calories
Beef Jerkey - 200 calories

Lunch -

Wrap sandwich - 300 calories
orange - 50 calories
fruit leather - 45 calories

Snack -

pretzel nuggets - 140 calories

Dinner

Baked potato - 160 calories
Sour cream - 90 calories
carrots - 15 calories
taco meat - 200 calories

So up to 1290 calories right now. That actually gives me quite a bit left for the evening so I am starting to get into a good range during the day where I have some left for snacking in the evening, cause I am a snacker.

As to exercise, I walked about 6 miles today on the treadmill at the gym - over 800 calories burned!!!! and didn't even remotely feel exhausted - helps that the treadmill has a TV right in the screen - can walk and watch TV at the same time.

Finished up the night with a sprite - 150 calories, and some chocolate covered almonds - like 400 calories. I am just glad they are gone cause they are very addictive. Plus I think I had about 100 calories of tortilla chips I forgot to mark down with dinner.

So about 1850 for the day, plus the exercise is a great day!

Way to go!!!!

Great job! Keep up the hard work.. My problem is all my free dove chocolates I bought....:rolleyes24:

I really enjoy my cycling class at the gym that i tried to go to at least Tues nights and Sat mornings.

Having the baby plus my 3 yr old in preschool, trying to maintain a normal nap time for the baby, doing the standard chores around the house, and trying to fit in drive time for the deals, makes it very difficult to get to the gym classes I went to go to....

But, I know I feel better when I exercise and eat balanced meals.

Continue to make sure you are getting enough good fats, protein and carbs with each meal (including snacks). For instance, snack could be string cheese and a small apple. You got your complex carbs from the apple and protein and fat from the cheese with very few calories...

Well, I do hate being a woman for 5 days of the month. And as I've gotten older, it's gotten rougher. So this week was a total loss. I exercised once, and overall this week, I did get in about 11 miles of walking. But those apple turnover things from safeway are the devil and a total weekness - needless to say, I ate too many of them.

So, back on the horse next week. I was at the gym today for DS's swim lesson and signed up to do pilates with a private instructor. They're supposed to call me with arrangements here soon for dates/times. I'd really like to try working one on one with someone and adding to the level of accountability be reporting in once a week with someone. So we'll see how that goes. I've heard it's a hell of a workout, so I am hoping I like it.

Ya know, you're an inspiration to us all. I'm going to finish my green tea and go to the gym to excercise in the pool after taking the kids to practice basketball. As soon as I can talk myself off this recliner. Give me about an hour or so. LOL
