Much reamins the same but much has changed too. Love of reading is still there, passion for couponing is pretty much a thing of past. Don't get me wrong, if I have a coupon I will use it but I won't fret or wring my hands if I am in need of something for which I have no coupon. I have moved on to from 'Saving money at all times and all at all costs' to 'Value my time and update my priorities' and I like inhibitating this state of mind.

Three years and two days ago to this very date, I started this blog and titled it 'My Reading Journal'. I am happy to report that though these last three years witness numerous changes in the way I live my life- one thing that has remained constant is my love of books and my devotion to the ritual of reading. Between the years 2007-2010, my wallet carried library cards from four different Public libraries. One from the county in which I lived from 2007 to early 2010, one from the county in which I worked from 2007-2008 (that was 30 miles away from my house) and at present the library card issued by the the county in which I presently reside.

In the last ten years I have lived in five different states and the most cherished object in my memory box is a collection of library cards issued by various libraries located in towns and suburbs I lived in. You may scoff at the idea and may even find it somewhat ridiculous- after all memory boxes are supposed to be lined with lavender sheets containing ribbon tied love letters nestling right next to your favorite pictures of yourself( probably one from your youth, when you believed yourself to be at the height of your bloom)

My memory box is no different- instead of mementos from a flesh and bone admirer, it contains tokens that represent the love of my life-Books and Reading. I'll concede that the box does contain my favorite picture of myself-in it I am 23 years old, clad in a lovely green outfit that nicely compliments the lush green grass I am sitting on. The picture was taken during my honeymoon and the location is none other then Stratford-upon-Avon- the birthplace of the word's greatest storyteller- Shakespeare.

Dear dames of Dumfries library and the lone gentleman too,

As I am writing this note of gratitude from hundreds of miles away, I am remembering all of you and the excellent experience you provide, with much fondness.

One often hears about the charms of 'small town experience' the pleasure of being greeted by one's name, a place where a patron's preferences are remembered and ones's selections are appraised with good cheer. I found all these life's small pleasures at the Dumfries neighborhood library and the entire credit goes to each of you- the good people who run this library.

When I was relocating from Virginia, my plan was to make a farewell stop at the library and personally thank each of you for making the visits to the library such a joy. Unfortunately my time management couldn't keep up with my intentions and in lieu of that, please accept the enclosed gift card as a small token of my appreciation-and raise your coffee, tea or mocha cups to joy of reading and shared love of books.

With sincere thanks and fondest regards,

Two years ago to this very date, I started this blog and titled it 'My Reading Journal'. A lot has happened in these two years, half of which I discussed in my 2008 entry "Return of the Reader". On reflection the title "Return of the Reader' wasn't an accurate choice of words. You return when you leave, I never left books or rather they never leave me. See, I wake up in the morning and promise myself I won't read today..I will clean my closets as I have been meaning to do for some time, I will vacuum the mini van that has been overdue for some time,I will dust the uppermost shelves in the living room that require a ladder and hence always get looked over while doing routine dusting, I will.. I will..I will
But then I open a book and if its a good one , which in most cases it is, the day goes to the dogs..or rather to the written words.

As I am growing older, my interest or rather fascination with language is growing too. I crave the beauty in the written word;when I see an unfamiliar word, I pause, re-read the sentence, I enjoy this game of guessing. My joy is prolonged by the pursuit of the word's meaning..I goggle it and wallah I have multiple dictionaries at my disposal and God bless whomever made it possible for the Voice (sound) to be heard over world wide web. Half the fun is clicking on the Sound icon and hear how the unfamiliar word is pronounced.
This love of language is true for both my mother tongue: Urdu and the language I live: English.

I will end this third anniversary blog post with the hope that my love for the written word never dies, my passion for language never get jaded and that I remain curious till the day I draw my last breath.

One year ago to this very date, I started this Blog and titled it 'My reading Journal'. A lot has happened in this one year,we sold our house and moved into a new one, I quit my part time job, I celebrated my 34th Birthday, my brother had his first child- a girl, my sister finally moved to her dream house, my parents extended their U.S trip for an entire year, my husband transferred from one department to another, I was unexpectedly and totally blown away my the Summer Olympics in china, we took an impulsive and entirely unplanned trip to MO to see family which turned out to be the best vacation ever, my children began their formal reading of Koran and last but by no means least , for the first time in seven years I am by myself for the most of the day ( my youngest stared KG this year!)
A lot happened from 9/18/2007 to 9/18/2008...last year I was typing for this Blog while sitting in a beautiful Yellow sitting room, today I am sitting in a first floor den which is full of sunlight and a little nippy then the rest of the house.
One thing that has stayed constant without even a hint of change is my love of books and reading.

If there is one activity I love more then coupons and refunds, it's reading. Reading is my fourth requirement to the three basics requirements to live; food, water and shelter.
This blog is my little piece of private heaven where I live and relive the experience of reading a certain book. My blog entries won't be about the best books I have read. Rather, I will write about every book as I read it, the good, the bad and the ugly.
One disclaimer to make, if I don't like a book I won't read it to completion. It doesn't matter if it's sitting on the NY times best seller list or if it was recommend by the most reveared and respected book cub. I only read what compels me to read it.
This blog is not a review of the books I am reading, it's a journal of how a certain book touched me a certain way, what a certain book, in a particular time period of my life, meant to me.
Dear reader, I most welcome your participation, comments, questions to my blog.
