On the 3rd Anniversary of my Reading Blog

Two years ago to this very date, I started this blog and titled it 'My Reading Journal'. A lot has happened in these two years, half of which I discussed in my 2008 entry "Return of the Reader". On reflection the title "Return of the Reader' wasn't an accurate choice of words. You return when you leave, I never left books or rather they never leave me. See, I wake up in the morning and promise myself I won't read today..I will clean my closets as I have been meaning to do for some time, I will vacuum the mini van that has been overdue for some time,I will dust the uppermost shelves in the living room that require a ladder and hence always get looked over while doing routine dusting, I will.. I will..I will
But then I open a book and if its a good one , which in most cases it is, the day goes to the dogs..or rather to the written words.
As I am growing older, my interest or rather fascination with language is growing too. I crave the beauty in the written word;when I see an unfamiliar word, I pause, re-read the sentence, I enjoy this game of guessing. My joy is prolonged by the pursuit of the word's meaning..I goggle it and wallah I have multiple dictionaries at my disposal and God bless whomever made it possible for the Voice (sound) to be heard over world wide web. Half the fun is clicking on the Sound icon and hear how the unfamiliar word is pronounced.
This love of language is true for both my mother tongue: Urdu and the language I live: English.
I will end this third anniversary blog post with the hope that my love for the written word never dies, my passion for language never get jaded and that I remain curious till the day I draw my last breath.
