So here is how my NEW budget is going to look:

$40 per week (down from $60 in 2009) for our household consumables- groceries, hba, cleaning supplies and paper products for me, DH and 2 ds's (6yo and 3yo) 3 cats and one mini pin (dog, <15 lbs) I am also including costs for my newspapers, I typically buy 5-10 every week.

I also do surveys to earn Paypal credits, some occasional rebates and pay-to-click for gift cards. These funds are funnelled back into my budget.

Here's to my goal of $2010 in 2010!

Kellogg's merchandise

Posted 01-22-2009 at 08:02:16 AM by Cynthiabutterfly

I got tokens for the Guitar hero t-shirt and Kung fu Panda blanket from the back of Kellogg's cereal, and mailed them in at the end of December.

I just got the blanket in the mail yesterday, almost 3 weeks to the day I sent it in.

Since I was able to stick to my budget of $10 per person for Christmas, I am going to keep that limit for all other gifts this year.

I will be able to use the free T-shirt as a gift, and since it was free, the $10 I saved will...

Week of 1/12 Savings

Posted 01-20-2009 at 06:24:05 AM by Cynthiabutterfly

I forgot about a late night trip to Walmart last Sunday so I added it to this week’s totals.

I want to try to use one free coupon per trip, or at least one per day on days I make multiple stops. It's an effort to use my freebies since I tend to hoard them, and I've let a few expire because I kept putting off using them.

I stopped at Target to get some Downy, and I used my $5 Target gift card, so no oop on that trip. I also used a $7 free Iams Cat food, 2.2lbs on that...

Some Christmas cheer in January

Posted 01-18-2009 at 05:37:27 PM by Cynthiabutterfly

My 5 year old DS has been obsessed (to say the least) about Christmas since, well, September, when Christmas stuff started appearing in stores.

He can’t spell on his own, so he decided to draw pictures of what he wanted to send as a letter to Santa. He only asked for 3 things, and to his surprise, got everything he wanted! Now I can’t hear the end of it. I hear about what he wants for next Christmas on a daily basis, and nothing I say will convince him to forget about it for just...

Recycling payed off!

Posted 01-15-2009 at 09:21:00 AM by Cynthiabutterfly

I redeemed my first RecycleBank reward last week and I received my coupon in the mail a few days ago.

It is a free YoBaby yogurt, exp 12/31/09 with no max value! My kids are almost as excited about it as I am!

This only cost me 50 points, and I received 117 points just for the pick up on the same day I got my coupon. I love this program and my city for participating!

And the bonus: My account keeps track of how many trees and gallons of oil I've...

My Catch-22

Posted 01-14-2009 at 07:21:31 AM by Cynthiabutterfly

The holidays and some great sales have left me with a freezer that is filled to the brim with Turkeys and about 50 pounds of frozen veggies.

My dilemma here is that I need to save money in order to buy a freezer, however I'd like to get a good deal on a used one which requires that I have a truck - and I am saving for that too.

So no truck, no freezer. No freezer, no more free veggies or pizza rolls. No more free food, no money to buy my truck and my freezer. ...
