I went to Dollar General, Kroger and World Market for grocery stuff today. Kroger had Kellogg cereal on sale for half off and a bunch of stuff was 10 / $10 so all the stuff was $1 each.

Dollar General $21.89

World Market $3.23

Kroger $45.88

I didn't realize until after I got my receipt that one of the Cellfire coupons I had on my card was used for the Progresso soup I bought, so that was a bonus. I also used my Kellogg cereal coupons so that means I got a box of Apple Jacks for .59 and I got 3 more boxes of cereal for just over $4.00.

December 09 $120

YTD 09 / 10 $676.94

We started out by getting pizza tonight.

$14 pizza at Little Caesar's.

I also ordered the December Angel Food box for $30. That will be picked up on December 19.

We also got some sugar and cat litter because we ran out and I haven't bought groceries yet. Estimate: $5.

December 09 - $49

YTD: $556.94

As a reminder, this isn't just food spending. It's also HBA and pet food / supplies. My goal from November 1, 2009 to October 31, 2010 is to spend $3900 a year on food, HBA, and pet stuff. That should average $75 a week. So far I am over that amount, but I hope it will average out lower as time goes on.

I want to hold off on buying groceries until the sale day at Kroger on Thursday.

Between Thanksgiving and today we spent about $10 more on food and drink while we were traveling. We've mostly been eating at family member's homes and eating leftovers since Wednesday.

So my total for November 09 / YTD 09/10

$507.94

That makes the weekly average $126.99. I know that's higher than my goal of $75 a week, but I now have a good bit of food so I don't think I'll be spending nearly as much.

I have $130 in grocery money for this week. Part of it will be going for the Angel Food December basket and the rest will be between CVS and Kroger for groceries. We're still seeing if someone can get a deer for us this fall as well.

I went to a lot of places today to shop.

World Market: $14.02

This included some beer for dh for his family Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow and some scone mix that was on sale.

Target: $23.09

This is for the food I bought there only. I did get some ground turkey in the one pound rolls for $1.49 each. Much better than Kroger. I also got more of the .45 veggies.

Dollar General: $27.84

This was mostly pet food and HBA stuff.

Vet: $17.94

Cat food for one cat on a special diet.

CVS: $1.77

I used my $9 ECBs to buy stuff on sale. This purchase included 2 Revlon Haircolor (2/$5), 2 Betty Crocker Brownie mixes (2/$3) and Xtra laundry soap for $1.97 on sale. I didn't have any man q's, just the ECBs and there wasn't anything good to roll them into.

Total today: $84.66.

Total November 09 / YTD total: $497.94

I feel like I've spent way too much money this month. I know that when you start this sometimes you go over budget. But I have to start keeping a better eye on things. I cannot overspend and I know this is already over my $75 a week goal limit. But I know we're set on cold meds. I think we have enough veggies for a while and I'm good on haircolor now for 2 months. That should help out for next month.

8 x .45 = $3.60 - $1.00 coupon = $2.60

So I got them for about .33 a can.

With the other food stuff he bought it was $7.24 spent at Target.

We also decided to have BLTs for supper and needed lettuce and tomatoes, so we headed off to Kroger.

Kroger $7 for lettuce, tomatoes, and hot peppers for Dh.

I went shopping again. I have to stop!

Kroger $40.39

Got a bunch of stuff on sale and used 2 coupons that doubled. Got some stuff I need for Thanksgiving next week.

Walmart $1.00

I bought more stuff at Walmart, but the $1.00 was the only food item. I hated to see that Duncan Hines cake mix was .78 a box when we'd spent $1.00 a box at Fred's on Pillsbury :rolleyes24:

CVS $14.63 ($9 ECB for next time)

I got some Skippy Peanut Butter and Ragu Sauce, which gave me some ECBs, and then 2 boxes of cereal for more ECBs. I also got the Glade plug in for ECBs, but that's not in the total because it's not food or HBA.

Fred's $5.00

I'm guessing at Fred's because I can't find the receipt, but we only got (food wise) 3 boxes of cake mix at $1.00 each and a container of raisins for about $1.80. So I'm rounding up to $5.00. I'll correct it if I find the receipt.

We also ate lunch at KFC. No coupon, unfortunately.

KFC $12.00

Total today $76.02

YTD 2009 $373.24

Nov 2009 $373.24

My last shopping trip of the week will be Target for their .45 canned veggies. I have a coupon for 8 cans, so I'll be using that and then done for a while. I think we have plenty of food for right now, so I may eat out of the cabinets for the next week and a half or so.

This weekend we ate out a bit too much.

Quiznos $19.00 (got the 2/$5 special and used a coupon for 1 sandwich)

Arby's $16.00 (no coupon)

Then we did a grocery run between Dollar General and Kroger.

DG $47.50

Kroger $69.00

Total $151.50 spending

I used a couple of coupons at both places. These totals include HBA items and some pet items.

I can't wait until I have a bigger stockpile of coupons. I just didn't have enough coupons to use for what I bought and some things I had to get store brand stuff due to the price. I went $9 over my grocery budget.

For other spending, both dh and ds got haircuts today. One thing I was concerned about was the new cost of haircuts at our new place. We've been going to a barber for $8 a haircut. We had coupons for Great Clips - $9.99 cut and a $6.99 cut. Dh also tipped, so he spend $20 on 2 haircuts. So now I just need a coupon for my haircut because I don't want to spend $15 on a cut when I have such short hair.

My totals so far:

Nov 09 $296.22

YTD $296.22

I have overspent already in my first month as I don't want to average more than $75 a week. We'll just have to see how it all works out as I get better at this.

We got the 2 free burgers, 2.09 x 3 large drinks and .89 checker burger. With tax, the total was $7.75.

We figured that with the free burgers and discounted burger we had a $15 meal for almost half price.

I got the $10 ECB as well as some more coupons. I got a $2/$10 and one for $2 off Gold Emblem nuts.

I think we are set for cold stuff. I don't know if I'm going to be able to roll the $10 next week. I may just spend it on grocery items next week and then start over with the ECBs. I'm not sure yet.

I also got some flea and tick shampoo at Dollar General and that counts as pet care.

CVS $17.83
DG $2.43

YTD total - 131.06

I unpacked our pantry box from our old house today. I think we have enough food to last us at least a week if we're careful with the food.

I also used a Redbox code and we got a free movie. I also got my library card today and checked out a couple of books and a movie from the library. I love using the library. It's the best free resource for just about anything.

I figure I'm in a good place to see this work for two reasons. One, I just moved and I'm starting over with almost everything. And two, I have no stockpile and I'm brand new with coupons.

As I said, I want to spend $3900 or less for one year on food (grocery and eating out), HBA and Pet food (average $75 week / 52 weeks). I'll count pet shampoo & litter, but I'm not counting medications or anything for them.

I think I did okay at Kroger. I took part in a ten item mega event. I bought 20 participating items and used 2 coupons. I saved $10 instantly off the grocery bill.

Unfortunately we had to buy some immediate things the night we moved in due to forgetting some things.

Here is the breakdown:

Walmart $21.22
Kroger $46.72 (after $10 instant savings and $2 coupon savings)
Checkers $5.40 (ate out)
CVS $32.24 (have $7 ECB)
Kroger $ 5.22

Total $110.80

I'm not going to be able to do my 2nd round at CVS or go to Walgreens this week. Have to wait till I have more money and still trying to find the best deals. I haven't even been to Winn Dixie yet in the area.

I find myself wanting a coupon for everything. I had to get a new cord for my dryer at Home Depot and hated spending full price! I need to shop around more.

I'm saving the receipts for now so I can get an idea of the prices and make sure I'm getting the best price. I know I'll learn that more over time. I want to turn them into a price book eventually.

First week down. Let's see if I can do better next time.
