Took First Baby Step

Yesterday, we began Baby Step 1 of our Total Money Makeover. We took $100 and opened up a savings account. Interest isn't great of course, but the purpose is not to make money on it at this point. Just set it aside for emergencies. This is the first time in several years that we've actually had a savings account of some type. We've done money markets and CDs in the past, but had been living without any savings for the past three years or so.
It's almost like a complete focus shift for us. We've always been focused on paying off our debts but really made no allowances for unexpected expenses, big purchases or even the things you know are coming each year like birthdays and Christmas. Now we're doing things with a bit of foresight. We're planning and having discussions about saving up for things instead of just wishfully thinking the money will fall out of the sky LOL.
