Bumps In The Road

Last week, we enthusiastically started our new bugdet. I carefully allocated all our spending from last Friday until this Thursday (our next pay period). On paper, everything looked great. We made it through the weekend without any trips to McDonalds or any other credit card spending. DH filled up both cars using cash. We bought groceries for the week using cash with plenty left over for extra trips for diapers, milk and juice. DD's preschool birthday party on Wednesday will be paid for with cash and her birthday presents for her actual birthday on Thursday have been bought with cash and under budget. And, we will be starting our emergency fund this week! As I told DH, the only thing that would mess up our plan for this week would be an unexpected bill. So last night sitting at the computer desk what did I find underneath a bunch of junk mail - you guessed it a bill :Poke: Our water bill from December which was due the 4th of January. Since it's past due, there will be a $5 late fee accessed.
And to add another bump in the road, our first "emergency" appears to be on the horizon. The shower handle in our upstairs master bath fell off again. We had it repaired last year. Luckily, the plumber was able to find a replacement handle at a plumbing warehouse but he said it was the only one left. The shower apparently is original to the house (1972) so finding another handle would be nearly impossible and probably not even worth the expense. I think the plumber told me to do a replacement would be about $700 - $900 since it would require going into a wall. That's probably a conservative estimate since there's tile involved as well. Uggghhhhh...
