Hi!! Welcome to my blog.
Happy to have you here...not sure what you are looking for but what you see is what you get. Heck, I have no idea what I could even blog about that anyone would find interesting but there are lots of things folks watch, read, and listen too that aren't really interesting so what have I got to lose?!?
As for introductions, I am BzyBee and my whole clan is around here somewhere. DH and two kiddos...rapidly turning into real people from the children they used to be.
We coupon and bargain hunt, the kids go to school, DH and I putter around with projects around the house, I work from home, we are debt free except our house, we enjoy our quiet life and family time.
There will be more to come on the above subjects..and probably others. Interesting?? I'll report....you decide.

It's Only A Quarter

25 cents. Some people wouldn't even pick it up if they saw it in the parking lot yet one little quarter matters at one discount grocery chain.
At Aldi's you have to rent your grocery cart for a quarter. When you return the cart to the corral you get your quarter back. What is the big deal? I don't know but I have never yet seen someone leave a cart in the parking lot at Aldi's. No dinged side panels, no carts to dodge while trying to park, no long line of carts blocking me into my space while some high school kid tries to wrangle them back to the front of the store after they have been abandoned in the far corners of the parking lot. Everyone wants their quarter so they push the carts back themselves...all the way to the front of the store!!
Aldi's also doesn't provide bags for groceries. Well, they do but they charge you for those too. If you want a grocery bag you must buy one or bring your own. And people do bring their own!! Not only do they bring their own bags but they bring enough bags to leave for other customers who might need them. It's RECYCLING!!!
It all seems simple enough a concept and yet it always surprises me to see that it works so well. I think I am going to start charging the kids a quarter when they get a dish from the cabinet, when the dish is actually put in the dishwasher I will give the quarter back.

| | Most people here would pay the quarter to leave their cart in the parking lot. I actually prefer the recycled grocery bags you can buy for 99 cents or so at a lot of the major chains now. No cans or orange juice cartons tearing through the bottoms of the bags! More people should use them! Charging the kids sounds like a great idea! |

| | They did this many years ago at Pathmark in the ghetto, and got rid of it after too many complaints that the homeless folks were stalking people to take their carriages. As for charging for dishes, do you really want to hear "What is her PRO---BLEM?" anymore than you do already? I am not a fan of stores charging for bags - I donate 95% of what I buy, cuz I get it for free. I always bring my extra bags to the food pantry so they can get re-used there. The stores are only doing this to cut down on their own expenses. |

| | I'm one of those bad people who leave the shopping cart in the parking lot... I try to park next to one of the cart return places, but the space isn't always available. And I won't leave my kids in the car while I put the shopping cart back, so the cart get left in the parking lot. I remember the "ghetto" pathmark that needed the quarter to get the cart. I hated that place because of it! Anyone try to carry an infant in a 100 pound baby "carrier" with a 2 year old wiggling and pulling on your other arm, balance your coupons and purse on your head in the snow, up hill both ways... anyway, you get the idea ![]() |

| | I am the same way I am afraid to leave my kids in the car while I return the cart. There are too many weirdos out there. Sometimes when my oldest is with me I watch her while she takes it back to the cart corall. Otherwise it gets put between the vehicles. |

| | My stores give a $0.05 credit towards my grocery bill when I bring in my own bag. I wonder which is more effective -- positive punishment or positive reinforcement? |
