2008 Savings & Deals

I realize it probably would have been smart to start this at the beginning of the year so I could keep track of all our savings and great deals, but of course I wasn't that intelligent
sooo....
I've avoided Walgreens like the plague for the longest time (with good reason too). Sunday I decided to attempt this wonderful Olay deal and had the trip(s) from hell.
To sum it up:
Sunday 3/02 - Purchased (6) Olay body washes with my $2 Olay coupons and a $5 RR that my mom had gotten a week ago. RR does not print (of course). Call the manager over and his solution is to handwrite a $12 RR to that particular store detailing the promo and that it didn't print, along with his name and signature. Fine..not the best solution but I leave the store mildly happy.
Visit Walgreens #2. Purchase (2) Olay soap 2-packs with my $2 Olay coupons. No RR again
I look over and the catalina machine has 2 red lights indicating "ERROR" and "No Paper". Cashier calls the manager over, who voids the trans, takes me to the perfume counter and rings me up over there in 2 separate transactions without a problem. I receive both of my $4 RRs and go on my merry way.
Monday 3/03 - I go back to the store which gave me the handwritten RR with my plan for buying trial size Pantene and Olay bar packs just so I can get rid of the stupid "fake" RR and get real ones. Of course I run into a problem. Assistant manager comes over. "He can't handwrite things like this. I'm sorry, but there is no way to ring in a $12 manufacturer's coupon because you have several items totalling just over $12. If it was one item, it wouldn't be a problem." So I kindly explained how it wasn't my fault that the store did not have the deal programmed correctly and I did not get the RR. He just sat there scratching his head. So I asked if he could just give me $12 on a gift card so I could use it at any Walgreens, like I should have been able to in the first place. He does some really stupid "returns" through the computer of the items I just tried to buy. The quantities and prices are all screwed up and they're clearly going to affect his inventory, but I don't think he had a clue. So after 45 mins of being in the store, I walk out with nothing other than a gift card with $12.56
DH isn't happy.
So anyway, now I have (2) $4 RRs (1 goes back to mom) and a GC with $12.56. So I'm finally prepared to start rolling and getting some good deals! Woohoo!
Total Spent OOP = $3.70
(to be continued......)
