Disappointing visit to ACME Grocery Store

Posted 09-10-2008 at 06:40:01 PM by BargainSeeker
I decided recently to expand the number of grocery stores I frequent, always searching for additional savings. So I went to an ACME store located in the next town, about 10-15 minutes away. First of all, this is one of the reasons I didn't go to this store, since I have 3 major grocery stores, each within less than 5 minutes, even walking distance to me. Saves me gas, tremendously. Second reason I didn't go to ACME was because, when I first moved here, about 25 years ago, I used to go shopping with my mother and ACME was not very coupon friendly. I remember my mother had coupons for 10 and 15 cents. Imagine 5 and 10 cents! Anyway, about fifteen years later I went to ACME (same location) and they still were not very coupon friendly. So yesterday, ten years later, I go, (same location, ha!) mainly because their ad indicated a $5 coupon wyb 10 boxes of Rice-A-Roni or something like that, and I wanted to be in a different store entirely from what I am accustomed to. I wanted a change of scenery altogether because I'm tired of the same old, same old. I parked, grabed a shopping cart, went inside the store, looked for antiseptic wipes, none, strike 1! I headed for the CS counter to request an application for a store card. The lady behind the counter looked annoyed, she was hitting keys on a register and did not acknowldge me until about five minutes later. Strike 2!! I filled out the application, and proceeded to walk the aisles to see what was of interest to me. In comparing the prices of items I normally buy to the other stores, this ACME was a little overpriced. I went to check on the Rice-A-Roni, but upon searching for the coupons I had, (buy 4 Rice-A-Roni, get the 5th one free) I could'nt find the coupons in my box, so I lost out on that deal! Fine. I kept looking. I had a winetag for Carolina Rice, so I grab a small bag, and put a few other things in my cart and made a beehive straight for the check-out registers. I say beehive, because, by this time, I had been in the store for about 30 minutes, and the smells of cooked food was overwhelming! I gave the cashier the one and only coupon, the winetag, and she proceeds to tell me I had the wrong rice. I said "It says 'any' Carolina Rice". She said, "No, only the rice that's on the picture". What the heck! I thought, 'Not another one', I ask she take the rice out, I paid, and nearly ran out of that store! Cashier has her own interpretation of coupons, and I smelled like a sous chef!! Strike 3 and strike 4! That's one strike too many! My long hair and clothes smelled like rotiserie chicken! Ugh! Never go there again. Or so I thought. At home I checked the receipt and it had a survey you call in and you get a code for a free loaf of french bread. Great, only problem is, it has to be at the same store! I'll go when they have things I buy to make it worth my while, get my free french bread, and then it's "Hasta la vista, baby" to that store location. I'll search for another ACME. What a bummed experience!
