Abortion

I am in a rather fiesty mood some I am "going there"
In general I would say I am "pro-life" but as with all things I cannot see it as black and white, I am in the grey area.
Here is where I am pro-life:
If you are responsible enough to CONSENT to sex, then you are responsible enough to do what is best for the child placed inside you. Once a that life is entrusted to you it is on your shoulders to do what is best for them, whether that be raise it or give it up for adoption. It should not be up to you to smolder a life before it even gets a shot.
I have seen many girls use abortion as a birth control method. Once was a mistake, twice is an excuse, three or more is murder and WRONG
Here is where I am pro-choice:
If a woman is RAPED and ends up pregnant why should she be expected to carry it t term? That is a horrific experience and if a woman wants to try to put behind her and trudge on why shouldn't we let her? If she makes the choice to adopt it out or keep it, good and if she doesn't want to I understand that to.
Here is where I solve the problem:
Abortion cannot be outlawed entirely for the above reason as well as the fact that if it is more and more people will have coat hanger abortions and scam artists will be doing them out of their vans with dirty tools and doing more harm than good.
Instead you should be able to get one abortion, when you get that abortion your finger prints will be taken and entered into a national database and before you can get one they run your print and if you have gotten one anywhere it will show up and you will be turned away, but not before being asigned a case worker that moniters you closely and helps you find a proper home for the child.
After the abortion you will be shown and provided with alternate birth control methods, you will be educated on ways to effectively prevent pregnancy.
I know people would still find a way, but it's just my thought on the issue and my solution, which I am sure has issues.

I agree with you too, but the solution is a bit to big brother for me, sounds slightly communist, for example in China when you can only have one child (okay its not the same but is the other side of the issue - who has the right to control procreation). But you are entirely right it shouldn't be a form of birth control. I guess its the price we pay for living in a country that promotes democracy (which leads to yet another issue, in the eyes of the law, when should a embryo/fetus/baby be protected?Posted 01-22-2009 at 11:09:30 AM by dgarza

I volunteer with pregnant and parenting teens (and pregnancy prevention), and I gotta say that while a FEW blithely use abortion as birth control, many more end up with an unwanted pregnancy out of ignorance of birth control methods, failure of utilized birth control methods, or because of perceived powerlessness in relationships prevents them from using birth control. For non-teens, the leading reason for abortions is financial distress.
I am pro-life, but I don't think that outlawing abortions is going to save many lives. There are proven pregnancy prevention programs out there, the first step is to move away from the abstinence-only BS that is being taught right now - while a lovely idealistic thought, it's not working. Also, providing financial support to struggling families is one of the most effective ways to prevent abortions.
I think we'll only see real progress once the abortion debate moves beyond "abortion is murder!" to a considered effort to mitigate the things that cause unwanted pregnancies in the first place.Posted 01-22-2009 at 02:02:40 PM by austingirl
