Marcal napkins should come out pretty cheap with the recent coupons.

I have had nothing but bad coupon experiences at the Big Y in Southbridge, so I try to stay away... but I was driving by it today and decide I'd run in for the cupcake liners I needed and for the Herbal Essences to try and get them free....

Well, the cashier didn't know what to do since the computer wouldn't let me use them. She tried to call for a manager, but after a LONG time I said "Forget it!"

Is it just me, or this store, or are all Big Y's this uncouponfriendly???

Heads up on the Herbal Essences. I ran in this afternoon to get some and they aren't ringing up right - at least at my store. They rang up as if they were buy two, get one but the customer service gave me the difference with no questions.

on another note, I know that it's in the policy to not accept $x/1 coupons on frees the free items (or in other words 3 coupons on a b1g2 deal) but my store has NEVER enforced that, well, that's changed recently, they are now enforcing it. I told the cashier today to take off the 3 jars of Vlasics and she got all distraught at me when I asked her to take them off the order. She didn't understand why I wasn't happy to pay 3.35 - 1.50 (1 x .75/1 coupon doubled) = $1.85 for 3 big jars of pickles.

BigY's are coupon unfriendly. Some are better than others, but since they don't honor competitor triples I do much better everywhere else.

    Hi!

I just wanted to address a couple of issues:

    1. For the person who has problems at the Southbridge Big Y: I am sorry you are having issues there. I am a head cashier there and am there most days and usually Thursday night. I tend to have Mondays off. If you have any issues you can ask for me and I will help you if I can. I love my job and always try to make the customer happy. My name is Anne by the way.

    2. The Herbal Essence coupons B1G1 were not being honored with the B1G1 sale. Not at my Big Y anyway.

    3. I like to think Big Y is a coupon friendly store. We double manufacturer coupons, which I don't think a lot of stores do. We do not accept coupons on free products. This is a rule they are starting to enforce at the stores more and more. I used to shop that way, and had to change my shopping slightly to reflect this policy.

I am always happy to answer questions if I can.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, and in some areas I'm sure Big Y is as good as their competition. I don't remember the other options in Southbridge.

I've heard a lot of folks complain that BigWhy isn't nearly as coupon friendly as other stores, and I fully agree with them. I don't get it why they won't accept a $1/2 coupon on something that is BOGO free? The manufacturer will reimburse them fully. Of course, what bothers me the most is that their registers are programmed to accept them, but some cashiers/head cashiers/store asst managers will hassle a customer about it, while others won't. So, the customer never can tell if their trip in to BigWhy will be 2 minutes or 20 minutes. Couponers don't need this aggravation when they have lots of other options.

For a good sale, I will visit 3-4 seperate BigWhy stores, and have been to roughly a dozen of them. As I consider myself something of an expert shopper, there are a lot of things I notice when I enter a new store. Without a doubt, BigY has the largest variation between friendly and unfriendly stores (not just coupon friendly, but overall customer friendly) of any of the major chains I go to. Some stores are just plain awful - worse even than the Pathmarks or the worst of the ShopRites in the most rundown areas.

I'll never forget seeing the sign above the door at one of them, you know the one that says "Through these doors walk the world's greatest employees". Well, someone had thrown a couple mudballs covering up the word "greatest". Then, I went 2 weeks later, the mud was still there. I went again 3 weeks later, and the entire word was scratched out, leaving just a blank space. To me, it was not just the delay in trying to clean it up, it was the fact that when someone had tried to fix it, they made it worse, and didn't care to fix it. What kind of a message does that send to shoppers - we don't give a crap about our employees' morale?

Others are some of the nicest places anyone would ever want to shop.

It sounds like yours is one of the nicer ones - I only visited there once, years ago, and didn't have enough opportunity to get a real good handle on it.

Actually, the policy states that if the coupons is for example $1/2 and one of the items is free, you will still be able to use the coupon. What Big Y doesn't allow is the use of a completely seperate coupon on a free item. For example if you have 3 1.00/1 coupons and the item is B1G2 free, you may only use one coupon and not 3. The reaoning is you are already getting the other 2 items for free so you don't need money off of them.

I like to think that Big Y is a good company and our sales and policys keep the customer in mind. I know when I go to work, I go looking forward to what I do and to working with my customers. I feel that customer service is my main reason for being there and I always welcome coupon users, mainly because I am a couponer myself. While I am not the manager, when I am in charge, I do make sure my cashiers are treating my customers with the respect they deserve. Eventually, I will be a Customer Service Manager ( I am in training now) and I look forward to helping my cashiers to treat the customer right.

Ok, now I should step away from my idealistic utopia, but I do treat my customers the way I want to be treated and insist the same from my cashiers.
