Quick question...I forget how Big Y handles overage. If there is an item priced at $1 and you use a $0.55/1 coupon (that should double) does the register beep, does it give you the overage, or does it simply take off the leftover amount ($0.45) and make the item free?

It has to do with the regular price of the item. If the $1 item is normally $1.50, the register will double it fully with no problem. If the item is normally $1, the register will automatically only double up to the $1. However, the cashiers can enter the coupon in for only up to the $1 amount so it is free without any overage. It happens 50 percent of the time for me.

Thank you for your help! I tried it yesterday and sure enough I got $0.10 overage which was a surprise to me I just didn't want the get up to the register with my coupons, only to have the register beep and the cashier refuse to take the coupon.

Can I just say it's been a long time since I've had a really great couponing trip to Big Y. Yesterday was great, I couldn't believe all of the stuff that I got for free or almost free! Every since our Shaw's was bought out by Shoprite I've been going through withdrawals LOL

I did get my free Land O Lakes Buttery Spread with the .55/1 coupon and I got my superpretzels free too! Yay!

Have to go back again today to try and get some more mission flour tortillas cuz all they had is the small corn ones. I guess it's only the smaller ones that are on sale but that's ok, those are good for breakfast burritos!
