QUESTION have u ever bought Bi-Lo milk w/the red $1 off stickers or VERY ripe bananas 4 $1.49 a bag?

have u ever bought Bi-Lo milk w/the red $1 off stickers or VERY ripe bananas 4 $1.49 a bag?
I have.....have you?

Some packages have
1. expire dates,
2. some say "best if used by",
3. some say "fresh until",
4. some say "sell by date"
5. etc.

I am positive Bi-Lo puts little red 50 cents off and $1 off stickers on milk.
Also, bags of bananas for $1.49.
And how many customers look at the dates on the bagged salads before they grab a bag?
How many people look at the date on the orange juice cartons?
Or the Nesquick milk?

I had an experience at Bi-Lo yesterday. I was calm in the store and calm now, but rather  when I got back to my car.

So, looking above at #1 thru #5 what should customers and store personnel do with such items who's dates have arrived or passed?

I will share my experience but would like some opinions on it. No sense telling everyone the answer now.

Thanks.

I knowingly buy dairy stuff that is close to the expiration dates...that is why it is marked down. Sometimes it is perfectly fine (yogurt, buttermilk, sour cream) other times not so much. It all depends on how cold it has been kept.

The produce, I have purchased those bagged broccoli pieces that were marked down to really cheap, and if you don't use them that day they are bad. Bananas if I were going to make banana bread then I would buy some, but a bag is way too much unless I was going to make 10 loaves of banana bread.

I have also bought cinammon pinwheels that had a red sticker on them that made them 100% free...so basically after having one, I threw away what they were going to throw away and it cost me nothing.

I buy discounted milk every chance I get. I just use that first and the finish off the milk I was using. Or I will freeze what I have in the fridge to use the discounted milk. Milk is good for at least 3 days after the date, or thats the longest I have ever had it for anyway.

most of the time the dates they have are for them to go by to take it off the shelf before it turns bad. I would only buy that stuff if i was gonna use it before it goes bad. after that date it cannot be sold! ive gotten OJ and biscuits marked down but used em before they went bad. They make more money sometimes selling it discounted if they can then sending it back as damaged goods wich is what happens with expired stuff.

ok, I've heard enough, so here is what happened and I was not pleased. It was not the manager but since I find this item discounted fairly often, I can wait.

ah, I see UUMMM mentions dairy products. Aren't they more likely to go bad over time than a banana or a box of crackers?
I try to buy milk with the longest date I can find on the shelf. The milk last easily 2 weeks after that date.

Well, I like salads with those small Tony's pizzas. I know they put $1 off stickers on Fresh Express salads. I looked for the one variety I get, which is the garden salad. I saw no stickers. They used to use the red stickers, now they use green ones on the salads and you have to look close.
My luck has been bad lately, I go there for something else and then go look at the salads for a discounted one. Usually, I'm a few days early, for example, I go on June 26th and the salads are dated June 30th and too early to discount. I may or may not get back there exactly on the 30th.

Well, I looked last night and it was June 23rd. Like MAGIC, they had 2 small bags of garden salad, regular $1.99. The date? June 22nd.
I asked my clerk and she said "yes" I'm aware that we reduce the price on salads when the date arrives. She referred me to CS. I was told I could not get a $1.00 discount on one bag of salad. In fact, I was told if the date was June 23rd I could, but the fact that the date was the 22nd they had to throw them out. I said, do you know how many June 22nd dated bags of salad were sold today (June 23rd) because some customers don't look at the dates? I wanted to buy one for $1.00 like usual and the CS refused. They said it had to be trashed.
I waited and watched for 10 minutes, and did not see anyone go remove those salads from the shelf. I have zero power to complain, they can always say if the date on the package is passed it has to be trashed. Well, they did not discount them on the 22nd or I'd been able to buy one for $1.00 and they did not trash them on the 23rd, their intent was to sell them for regular price, or the produce man is new and does not know how to rotate stock. The 22nd's were behind some 26th's.

(what we couponers go through to save a $1)

At my Bi-Lo the 1.49 bags of bananas are often mostly organic bananas. They keep way better than the others. They don't turn to mush as soon as they have brown spots. You have to look down in the bag to see what you are getting as often they put the organic ones under a few of the others as if they are hiding them. (???)

They legally have to trash them. Some weirdos would buy it knowing the date was passed. get "sick" sue the store etc. Or call it in to district and that store gets in trouble. The fact that no one noticed the dates before is a boo boo on their part. Id prob call corporate and say they are selling stuff that is already past expired dates. Because they can get into trouble for selling legit expired items. I woulda grabbed every 22nd one off their shelf and handed it to them then tell em u are calling corporate. Those should have been removed the night of the 22nd.

Girlfriend me thinks you expended way too much energy waiting for someone to remove salads from the display. You know the really cool thing about Bi-Lo is IF you had purchased this item, took it home and found it wasn't fit for consumption, they would have refunded your money.....especially if you had taken in the empty wrapper with the expiration clearly posted on it. Bi-Lo DOES indeed put these 1.00 red stickers on the milk to quickly rid themselves of a product that is approaching its "sell by" date. I often buy these products as we have a rather large milk consumption in our home. I buy the marked down bananas, too, as I have a very good, very easy banana bread recipe. With the left over bananas, I peel them, smash them and put them into freezer bags, 3 bananas per bag as that is what my recipe calls for. Freeze those puppies and they're ready for the next batch. I think that's what most people think of when then see these marked down nanners as I certainly wouldn't purchase them just for eating purposes with so many speckles on them. And also, we do not have any power to complain nor would I. Bi-Lo is the only store in my area that doubles coupons. I have a fantastic relationship with my store's manager and wouldn't jeopardize that for one second over a bag of salad. JMHO and certainly don't want to increase your blood pressure........next time, just walk away from the salad :) Some things in life are just not worth it.

I didn't fight it, I just wanted them to sell me a bag for $1.00 like those June 22 bags should have been discounted on June 22nd. It was as fresh as the June 26th bags will be on June 27th.
And no telling how many June 22nd bags they sold yesterday.

My wife has never called me girl friend.
