Default Bubble Tea

OK, I have never heard of this before until I read it in a mag. over the weekend & decided to check it out on line, so I am not sure how long it has been around. Anyone else familar with it? To me it sounds absolutely yucky.

When I was working for T-Mobile and living in Albuquerque my coworkers used to send someone out for this AT LEAST once a week!!! (They called it Boba Juice there) I never liked it. The straws you get with it are huge and the tapioca balls look like blueberries stuck in the bottom of the cup. Blech- not for me. And I usually like weird crap like this, too!

I like these, they're really good....you just have to try it from a place that knows what they're doing... I like the regular milk tea with boba....(tapioca).
the texture of the boba is chewy and they come in lots of flavors...

There is a Thai restaurant here in town that sells them. I always get the mango. It's like a smoothie only with these tapioca chewy tasteless balls on the bottom. If you get the right flavor of fruit, it tastes pretty good. I wouldn't be interested in the avocado kind though!

we have had this several times. It does take a while getting used to the big balls of tapioca, but after that it is not so bad.

OMG....I LUV my bubble teas. I get all flavors. I've had Mocha, Mango, Banana, Peach, and Chocolate. It's an aquired taste for an American palate. I had no choice as my husband is originally from Taiwan and MAKES me keep trying stuff hoping I'll eventually like it.

I enjoy it so much now, we bought tapioca pearls and make it at home.

Can you share how to make it? Is it regular tapioca (not the instant mix, but the dry stuff?)? I've never tried bubble tea and would love to. We have one Thai restaurant near us but I can't remember seeing it on the menu.

Thanks

As far as I know (been drinking this stuff since I was a kid) - tapioca itself is actually the round balls - and then the commercial powder that restaurants use is for the flavoring of the tea/juice. The tapioca that i have purchased in the past is white in color, but becomes the opaquish color when you cook it. I have to stir that thing constantly b/c it tends to stick very fast. then you just add it to the tea&milk or just tea or powdered drinks. My personal favorite is the green tea and the winter melon tea. :)
