Default Homemade "Gatorade"

Wow, it's been quite some time since my last post. Anyway, I made some "Gatorade" today. Simple, really. Here are the ingredients I used:

  • 1 package Kool-Aid (Lemonade)
  • 2 quarts (64oz) Water
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (fresh squeezed ; could have used more though... maybe a full cup?)
  • couple pinches of salt (just 'cause Gatorade has it, and it adds a minute amount of flavour)
  • sugar [substitute] to taste

I mixed all of the dry ingredients in a bit of hot water to help with the dissolving time. Then I added it to my jug (half gallon milk bottle works great) and filled it up with water until it hit 2 quarts. :) Good stuff. I haven't experimented with other flavours yet, but I think it'd be more or less like the odd flavours of Powerade/Gatorade. But hey, at about 30 cents or so per 2 quarts, it's worth the experimentation! Enjoy! And let me how your concoctions go. :)

ETA: Went back to try the drink again. At 1/2 cup OJ, you can really taste it. So I would suggest starting with maybe a little less, then experimenting to fit your taste. I think I personally like it at about 3/4 cup... You can still taste the orange without losing the tartness of the lemonade. Again, not sure how that would go with other flavours.

I have been making this for a while now.
You can use any flavor of kool-aid and it taste like gatorade.
I have been using any juice that I have on had and the kids do not notice that it is not orange juice.

:) Cool; that's good to know. Especially since I don't even like orange juice... unless I squeeze it myself. :) I'm partial to apple juice. ;)

This is awesome - I love freezing stuff like this and turning the delicious drink into a popsicle. Thanks for sharing!
