Default Iced Coffee Recipe / Coffee Syrup

Anyone got a good recipe for iced coffee?
Not too sugary. I don't take sugar in my hot coffee, but just icing it plain is quite lacking. I do use milk in my hot coffee.
I'm hoping for a drinkable iced coffee to substitute for soda. Don't like soda, and WAY to many calories. I also hate any sweetener other than plain 'ol sugar. I'm just hoping for my afternoon caffeine, with less calories than soda, and cold.
How do you make yours?

Funny you should ask about this! I just read in InStyle magazine last week about "cold process coffee", so I looked it up when I got home (was at the dentist).

You take 1 cup of coffee grounds, add 4.5 cups of cold water, stir, and refrigerate 8-12 hours, then strain, and it forms what they call a "coffee syrup" which can be refrigerated for 2 weeks.

I did some this weekend (doubled the recipe), and it came out pretty good. I add 3/4 cup of the coffee to 1 cup of milk. I also have have some of the flavored syrups that I'll add, or jsut a couple packets of splenda, but if you aren't a sweet coffee fan, you can probably do it as-is.

not sure if this exactly helps but i like thai iced coffee

coffee cubes (made from leftover coffee and frozen-----this i assume would work just as well if you used instant, just make it a tad stronger
coffee, chilled preferably (although, that coffee syrup would probably work wonders! ima have to play with ratios that work for thai iced coffee)
1-2 tablespoons sweetened coconut milk (1-2 sugar if desired)

i dont drink my coffee/lattes with sugar in them and i like this, its not too sweet, bt tastes great and is mild, smooth and yummy!

I should add...they call it a "coffee syrup", but it's not syrup-y at all. It might be SLIGHTLY thicker than regular coffee, and maybe a bit stronger, but not horribly so.

And "they" say it's somewhat sweeter, and less bitter than regular coffee that is made hot and then chilled. I do notice I need less splenda than I normally do, but that could also be the milk...

Here are the 2 websites I liked best:

Lol I do mine the lazy, easy way! I just put the left over breakfast coffee in the fridge to cool, then when I have the craving I ad flavored coffee creamer and ice. Strong coffee really works better but its cheap and convenient!

double the amount of grounds you would use for a hot pot. after it brews, poor it over ice in a pitcher (like what you would use for ice tea). I splash mine w/half and half. HTH

I do it the lazy way too, because DH usually makes the coffee and he always makes too much. If I'm going to drink it the same day, I'll just stick it in the fridge. If I'm not going to drink it right away, I'll put it in ice cube trays in the freezer, add them to the blender with milk or more cold coffee and have a frappuccino.

When I worked as a barista we just brewed the coffee and refrigerated it. Keep in mind that the flavor mellows when it is cool, so if you like your coffee strong, you may need to experiment with the amount of coffee you use in the brew to get the right taste in the iced coffee.

If you are making an iced latte, you just put the espresso shots in cold milk.

Here is the starbucks recipe for iced coffee that was on the bulletin board at the store last week:

1 c ground coffee
4 c (32 oz) water

brew as usual, then ice down. You can ice this directly out of the coffee maker because it's made a lot stronger to start with. I normally put my ice, cream, and a splenda in, then pour the coffee over the ice/cream mix.
