Default looking for simple smoothies

I am hoping that someone may have some ideas for a simple smoothie , I saw this on a info. commercial but but they didn't tell how much of anything to use just they wanted you to buy the machine and I just wanted the receipes.
something like 2 fresh fruits and low fat yogurt or some fruits with juice. (easy and simple)
I heard that it is good good way to fill you up and give you energy and good for you too.
I would to find some that would go with my smart ones dinners or as a snack.

1 Very Vanilla yoplait yogurt, ice, banana (strawberries, blueberries ... any fruit) .. and sometimes I add a bit of milk or juice ..whatever i have on hand. Blend it up and there you go ..

the other thing I have been adding is Fuze drink ... I add it to ice in the blender ..

I tend to purchase frozen fruit in the winter time .. great snack for the kids.

mmmmm smoothies mmmmmmmmmm
heres what we do
1 packet of vanilla instant breakfast
2 cups yogurt----its usually vanilla in our house
1 cup ice
half cup milk
1/2 cup whatever fruit you have on hand
toss in blender, blend and enjoy!!

i suppose you could use the equivalant of powdered vanilla slimfast? but i dont buy slimfast cause i thinks its gross, but we like the carnation vanilla instant breakfast

you could also do a variation
1 packet chocolate instant breakfast(or chocolate slimfast eqivilant)
2 cups plain yogurt
1 cup ice
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup peanut butter
1 banana

*slimfast/instant breakfast are used as a vitamin boost, you could use wheat germ, or protein powder but i dont buy them so i use what i have

oh and those smoothie machines? those are absolutely retarded, i had a blender with a smoothie "valve" and it was a PITA to clean (i now have a regular 14$ blender from walmart and it works JUST FINE)
IF your wanting something that makes great smoothies, opt for a "vitamix" blender---a bit pricey, but they do more then just make smoothies, mom has one, and has used it for making baby food for my sister, for making blended soups, and you can use it to "mill" your own flours

Default Re: looking for simple smoothies

I always make smoothies when I have fruit that needs to be used up. This is my general format:

ice
yogurt cup (any flavor, use vanilla alot, unless there is something my dd tried and would not eat, or I opened for dd and she would not eat lol)
fruit (berries work great, but plan on using apricots soon as we have lots of those. Peaches, nectarines, pitted cherries all work great. Have not tried grapes.)
banana for texture/body of drink
fruit juice (apple seems the most transparent, but use whatever we have, have also used milk or soy milk)
ground up flax seed (for fiber and omegas)
a couple of spoons of honey or brown sugar

I always put fruit, banana, yogurt, ice and flax seed in first, then add sugar/honey, and ad juice to about half or 2/3 height of the ingredients (juice settles in the spaces between the ice and fruit). Then I blend until completely mixed. It is usually a nice thick consistancy, and makes enough for two grown-up glasses and two preschool glasses full. Yum!

I am loving this thread - mmeadows0101 thanks for starting it. Thank you for all the great ideas. Latte - your chocolate smoothie sounds fantastic and mfaust - thanks for reminding me about blending in flaxseed (I used to use the ground flaxseed and it does not really change the taste and adds great fiber).

I used to do smooties all the time when I lived in Hawaii - but have gotten out of the habit. My favorite used to have:
Fresh pineapple chunks that I would freeze (I like the texture frozen fruit gives to the smoothie and you can use less ice).
Frozen Banana
Peach Yogurt
Mango juice
Ice

It was tropical tasting and delicious.

1 yogurt cup (6 oz)
1 or 2 fruit servings - banana, peach, strawberries, etc. A serving is 1/2 cup. I like to freeze mine, it makes a more milkshake like consistency.
1 cup ice
enough milk or juice, just to level of ingredients. Less for a thicker consistency.
1 tbs protein powder and/or ground flax

DH likes to experiment with his flavors, and will add flavored coffee syrups, instant coffee, hot cocoa mix, "to-go" drink mixes, chocolate/strawberry/caramel syrup, cinnamon/ginger/nutmeg, or just about anything that is either liquid or can be drunk.

Most of the time he experiments more towards a desert or milkshake than what I would consider healthy though.....

Default Re: looking for simple smoothies

I freeze chunks of ripe bannana to keep them from spoiling. Then I put some milk or soymilk in the blender I bought at a thrift shop. I toss in a few of the frozen bannana chunks and whatever fresh fruit I have on hand and blend it all up. I like using fresh strawberries. It comes out like soft ice cream or a thick milkshake.

I usually improvise, anything goes with our smoothies! But most of the time, I use 1 packet Vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast, 1/2 C Milk, 1 Banana, 1/4 C OJ and a drizzle of honey. Sometimes I'll add ice to make it frothy. Hubby likes to add frozen blueberries to his.

I like this one myself:
Creamy Pineapple Smoothie
1/2 C Milk
1/2 Ripened Banana
1 packet French Vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast
8 pineapple chunks
1 tbsp pineapple juice
1/2 C Ice Cubes
Blend all ingretients until smooth.

The kids like Peanut Butter Smoothies:
1 banana; peeled & frozen
3 tbsp Peanut Butter (we like chunky)
3/4 C Milk or Soy Milk
a few cubes of ice
Blend together til smooth. Pour in cups and drizzle with chocolate syrup.

Found this one on the tasteofhome.com forums and haven't tried it yet, but it sounds soooo yummy-- and my sis does WW so it's something she could do too!

Fruit Smoothie

1 cup frozen strawberries
3/4 cup Dannon Light n' Fit yogurt (fat free)
1 cup diet creme soda (approx. amount)

Blend all until smooth. Enjoy!!

Weight Watchers= 2 points

(Comments from original poster: "I did use Ginger ale, because I had no cream soda. You can use one of the Weight Watcher yogurts in place of Light n' Fit. It will still be 2 pts.")
