Default Re: Anybody make soap?

Thanks everybody for you ideas. I really like the idea with the loofa, for the guys anyway. I have my heart set on flower petals in the soap for the females. I am pretty sure I will use the cold method to make the soap. So those of you that use the cold method, where do you get your lye? Do they sell it at micheals or other craft stores?

red devil lye, if your store(s) still have any on the shelf. I buy mine in bulk, but I started with the red devil lye. The link to the candle site is a great start, the mods there are top notch.

You get in the the grocery or hardware store next to the drain cleaners.

Funstuff Soapmaking???

Has anyone ever made any bubble bars, or bath bombs like you find on lush?? I love this type of stuff, but it all gets so high. Thought it would not only be fun to make my own, but a lot cheaper too, also could be a money maker if I can do it right!! I just haven't seen any great sites for this type of stuff, or even know where to begin!

Really, I would love to make goat's milk soap. There are homemade soaps on etsy, but I really would love to learn some recipes myself.

For a good message board try www.soapdishforum.com, for instructions try www.brambleberry.com or www.bittercreek.com
I had a soap and toiletry business for a few years. It is fun to do, and the individual items are cheaper to make, however, many people get very addicted to buying supplies and before you know it you've spent hundreds of dollars!!

I totally want to, but I need another project like I need a hole in my head.

Until I am done canning, knitting and sewing my unfinished stuff, the soap will have to wait.

While I don't do soap making I have made bath bombs and they are really easy to make. Here is a youtube video that shows you how: YouTube - How to make Bath Bomb Fizzy's

And you Google the term Bath Bomb Recipes you will find lots of them out there on the net. The main ingredients are baking soda and citric acid (cheap) and coloring and fragrance. Easy as pie.
