HELP Clueless

I'm hoping someone in this forum can help me as I am totally inept with sewing or anything 'crafty.'

My 4yo has some pants and shorts that button instead of snap. Well, because he is TOO BUSY to go to the bathroom when he first needs to, he always has accidents because he waits until the last minute and can't manipulate the button fast enough. How difficult would it be to take the button off and 'install' (I'm not even sure of the correct terminology here ) a snap instead. Do I need some sort of 'snap implement'? Can I get one at a fabric store? I picture a big hand held stapler thing but I really don't know what I'm talking about (to state the obvious). Any ideas are welcomed.

Thanks!

-Jen

Here's a link to the JoAnn's snaps. There are some that you can sew on also.
