Re: Using embroidery floss for crocheting? It's been a long time now, but I used to crochet with thread quite a lot. The twist on crochet thread is much tighter than it is with embroidery thread. And you might find that metallics crack and flake after being pulled through loops as you stitch. If you can't find actual metallic crochet thread (which I think was just metallic thread blended with cotton for strength), you might try blending it yourself by adding metallic floss to a similar color cotton thread and crocheting with them together as one thread. If you live in an area with an active Freecycle or Craigslist, you might try posting to see if anyone has old crochet threads they no longer want. I've received quite a few balls of thread over the years from people who were finding homes for items from elderly moms, aunts, etc who had passed away. They were happy that the threads were going to someone who would use them and appreciate them. You might find the same thing. There certainly were a lot more colors years ago.
