pin cushions made from soda bottle caps

I just had to share these little treasures that I've been making over the past few days...they're pin cushions made from felt and small plastic soda bottle caps!

They're so easy to make, and I figured that I'd share them with all of the crafty HCW folks. I know that lots of us collect the bottle caps for the Coke (and in the past, Pepsi) codes. The fiber fill I just used an old pillow (one regular bed pillow will make A LOT of these) and the felt is an eco-felt that I got a really great deal on at JoAnn's.

There's a Flickr tutorial I found on the internet that shows the steps to make the base and I've taken it from there coming up with my own creations. I think these would make really cute, frugal, little gifts for anyone who loves to sew or uses a pin cushion for crafting. They're even small enough to fit in an embroidery thread box.

Kristen, that is cute as heck!
I got one at a garage sale in a bag of crafting goodies that has two holes drilled in the cap. They threaded a piece of elastic through it, so you can wear it on your finger while you're sewing.

Now that's ingenious! I've seen wristlet pin cushions before but never a ring!

I think DH has a hand drill in our little storage shed. I wonder if he'd be willing to help me out? Maybe I'll bribe him with baked goods...

I thought of another one...
For the wrist, using one of those mint tins...not the big altoids ones, but the smaller kind that are like 1-1/2" long.
Get that to be on a wrist band some how, make a little cushion on the lid similar to your bottlecap for a pin cushion and then make sure it can still open, and line the inside bottom with a magnet (like the free fridge magnets that come in junkmail that you could cut to fit).
Put pins in the cushion and some needles in the magnet case part.
