Default Soldier going to Iraq- need ideas.

A good friend of mine is leaving for Iraq soon, and I was thinking about buying a customized shirt to wear while he is gone. Unfortunately, the only shirts I can find are for boyfriend/husband/mother/father/etc. I really think it would mean a lot to him to know I wore a shirt showing my support of him while he's gone.

So another friend of mine and I are going to try our hands at using the iron-ons to make shirts (neither of us are very creative). Does anyone have any ideas for us? It would be greatly appreciated.

We are open to any ideas/suggestions. I really think this is going to be hard on him, and i'm really worried about him.

    thanks

Contact your local chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America.

It is an organization started by mothers in WWII to support each other as their sons went to war. A flag with a blue star was hung in the front window while the son away. The flag turned to a gold star when the son was killed in action or it was removed when the son came home.

They can give you all sorts of ideas to support your friend and other members of his unit while they are overseas.

When my mothers friend shipped out, she bought him a dogtag that had a "Footprints in the Sand" quote engraved on it.
    You can find them online.

If you're not up to making your own shirt, check out Zazzle.com - you can upload your own art, or even create it online. Not the cheapest way to go, but not terribly expensive, either.

Another option many people overlook is painting directly on fabric with acrylic paints. You don't actually *need* special fabric paints to do it either. I make designs I like on the computer and using tracing paper to apply them to shirts, then just paint with the inexpensive bottles of paint from the craft store (Ceramcoat, Apple Barrel, etc.).

Use the iron-ons to make shirts that say on the front Team (insert last name here). And then you could do a number on the back - they can look like jerzees.
