Cut shapes out of construction paper, then use baby oil to paint simple pictures or designs on the paper. Then hang them in a window. The light will shine through the oil lines and creat a neat effect. (maybe more interesting to the younger kids)

You can take crayon shavings (from old and broken crayons) and place them inbetween two sheets of wax paper. Then iron the paper (possibly between parchment paper to keep the direct heat off the wax paper). Crayons should melt inbetween the wax paper to create a stained glass effect.

Sock puppets are always fun too. (Use socks that are missing their mate.) Hand your kids over the socks and some markers and their good to go. Depending on how old they are, you could also hand over some glue and fabric scraps/yarn and decorate that way too.

i would suggest doing collage work, cutting of pictures from old newspapers and magazines and pasting them onto a chart paper .... kids usually enjoy doing this kind of stuff

painted rock totem poles. make sure the rocks stack nicely, paint each individually and then restack. put them in your garden!

just had my 2 dd's make birdhouses out of the orange juice cartons. i put painters tape around them (masking should work) and then let them paint them all up. spray with the craft sealing spray and then cut 4 holes for drainage in the bottom, a hole for the bird to go in and out and then a hole in the top to hang it. dh use an old piece of wire to fasten a hanger.
