April 22 is Earth Day. In recognition, HEB is giving away re-usable grocery bags. You must exchange 5 plastic bags to get the one free. This was found at the Katy store, but others might do it also.:BigHand:

Ok just got off the phone with the HEB in Tomball (off 2920 &249) with the store manager and he said they are going to be doing this and there is a limit they are going to try to stick by, one per person. But he said nothing says you cant go to many HEB's and do this.
Oh also it has to be HEB plastic bags. No Kroger, Wal-Mart, Target or Randall's.

Hummm...good thing there is a plastic recycle bin there, lol

the ones they are giving are the ones they sell for .99¢ in the store

That is what that store manager told me but that doesnt mean other stores wont take any bags. Plastic is plastic whether there is the store name on it or not.

They are green and one tip, this is from getting the blue one's from Kroger, whatever you do dont let them put canned or heavy items in these bags. I have had 2 bags split at the seams when they put canned items in these bags. I always ask them to put boxed or lighter items in these bags.
I was hoping it would the canvas totes, darn.

I took in some walgreens and cvs bags, they didn't even look (or count for that matter). I only tried for one bag. At first they were just giving the bags out and tearing the tags off, then they just gave out coupons for the free bags. :) I gotta go get my kids, so I'm going to another HEB to get another one!

Man you would have thought I was asking for a kidney or something. Took my 10 plastic bags in and they gave me such a hard time. First it was "sorry not till 3pm", it was 2:50pm give me a break. Then it was "oh only one bag per customer" and "sorry they HAVE to be HEB bags". The the dude "overseeing" it started to gripe cashiers out because he thought they were telling people "2 bags per customer" and there was not a set time and that people could bring in any plastic bag. I corrected him real quick. I asked what does it matter if you bring in a Kroger or WalMart plastic bag its all going to be recycled anyway. He didnt like that and gave me the rudest look. Let him know I called corp. and asked how many bags are you allowed and I was told 2 per customer and that they could be any kind of plastic bag.
Told him "well Happy Earth Day to you". He wasnt sure what to make of it LOL

I had a hard time at my HEB too. The young girl would only give me one coupon for one free bag, even though I had three times as many bags (all HEB!), whatever. So when I went to redeem my ONE bag there was some guy getting three! So I spoke up and said that wasn't fair and pointed out I had DD with me so I should get at least two. She begrudgingly gave me two.
BTW - my store was also recycling those little buddy bucks containers. DD turned in enough for three small HEB bags!

I went to my HEB straight from work and got a bag no problem.

Went home, grabbed my kids and mom and went back and got 1 more each(4). At first they were not going to give them to my kids but I showed how it said One per customer and they are customers

They knew nothing about the Buddy Bags though and I did bring some of those little canisters in too.
