The first project for 2008 that we're posting about in the HHH forums...

I am a firm believer in the power of higher education. I know we have some people here who are already in college or wanting to go back and start. Either way, one of our HHH projects this year is that we're going to offer a HCW scholarship for Sept. 2008 fall term. We don't know how much it will be yet - it will depend on what we raise. We know we'd like to at least offer a $500 scholarship - that's our goal!

What we can say is some of the criteria we'll be looking for, so at least if you think you might be interested in going back to school, you'll know how to plan.

Scholarship criteria:

* Length of time as a member - six months of active membership. Active means:

- Posts, trades (Itrader ratings), positve reps, helping along newbies, upholding HCW rules.

* Enrolled in an accredited program that would eligible for federal funds (so some fly by night thing won't work - the program has to have a FAFSA code to qualify as a legit program. A letter from the program stating that the member is enrolled there will be needed.

* Letter to us about why you want to go back to school.

* Academically in good standing with your program if you're already enrolled.

* Financial need - although this won't be need based, we will take it into condsideration.

* A letter of reference from someone in their outside community, and two HCWers (one mod/one non-mod) to vouch for them.

While we know school isn't cheap, and it is a commitment, we also know that school can make a huge difference in the long run with regard to being marketable and can increase your future salary potential. Being back in school myself this year, I know it's not easy with kids, coupons, a spouse, and everything else going on in your life. But we are hoping that a little financial boost can be a good shot in the arm to get going.

We'll be here to help along the way. Watch for some posts about how to get through the maze of paperwork for school, as well as some other ideas to fund your program.

We're hoping this project will be a huge success! $500 dollars, here we come!

I'll be the first to donate $5.00 I have PP.

You can do PP if you want, but we'll also be putting up offers and Heidi and I will kick in the $$ is how we plan on funding the scholarship primarily. I'll be posting offers here in this forum on a regular basis between now and September that will fund this and any other project along the way.

Wow, that would be so great! I will be applying myself if your deadline is after my six months is up. I work full time, go to school full time, and I am a mother of four. Any extra penny for school costs is helpful!! Bravo!

I think that's a great idea to set up a PP acct for that, if everyone donated $1 - $5, you could come up with quite a fund, for those who are able to

I think it's awesome and you have my support...I know how hard it is to work, be a mom and go to school. I had to drop out of school to go to work full time as a single Mom.

Will be watching the progress on this and the outcome.

Well, yeah, you'd have been on here 6 months by the time we'd start taking applications for it - probably in July or August.

I start school again tomorrow night, and will hopefully finish this December, so school is a near and dear to my heart personal cause!

This is an awesome project to read about. I completed my BA this past August after being out for 25 years, I finally completed my dream. It was truly an amazing accomplishment.

Hang in there to all who are trying to go to school and take care of a family, working or whatever...It is worth it.

I know it's alot harder when you're a wife & mommy!
I went to college when my youngest began Pre-K...
So, me & the kids all went to skool everyday! LOL
Evenings of homework, dinner, chores, laundry, dishes, after-school activities, etc. etc. etc......
Wow....are you sure there are 24 hrs. in a day?
Cuz it only seemed like there were only about FOUR!!
Had to squeeze everything in and try uber hard not to get stressed!

And it certainly ain't cheap!!!!!
So, bless your heart for thinking of a way to use HCW to make a contribution to help a member!

 This site ROCKS!!!!

i think this is absolutely wonderful! i know money is what has kept me from going back. i have attempted it several times and something always comes up that needs what $$ i have immediately. so i really do know how hard it is to pull off, and this is just excellent. i'm hoping to go back next year when my youngest starts pre-k. maybe there will be another for next year ;) and no, my typing isnt bad cuz i didnt finish college, lol...im one handed. broken fingers arent fun, especially when they get pins put in them:(

Wow! you are really beautiful people.
I would love for my husband to go back to school to finish his business management degree.
I can't go back to school as I likely won't live long enough to finish it. But I am hangin on and fighting the good fight.
I wish you all the luck in raising the funds and will help any way that I can.
God bless you and the won that wins.

:BigHand:Wow, Best wishes to whoever wins! I think a couponer would have an advantage in school by virtue of being a resource-stretching, idea-using, fine-print reading kind of gal or guy. I wasn't couponing when my DH went back to school, so it was pretty tight. Sounds like the winner will be in a good place to be!!
