What is a winetag?
A winetag is exactly what it sounds like: a coupon or MIR that hangs around the neck of a wine bottle. They can be for many things like bread, beef, chicken, turkey, flowers... Some require a wine purchase, some don't.

okay, I have a question. If there is a peelie or a winetag on a product you are not buying is it okay to take the peelie or the winetag off of that product?

Ohhh....I hope not, I have been getting and using winetags from trades. No wonder the cashiers look at them so funny.
That would also explain why I have never found any on my own. (in Kentucky)

I meant against the law to display them, not use them. Like how in dry counties they do not sell alcohol but you can bring it in from another county and drink it. I know it makes no sense to me.

I live in a wet county, I mean you can go to any store in town and buy any kind of liquor. But we do not have wine tags on anything.

I'm from Georgia and I saw one today in Kroger, it was for $3 off seafood wyb the wine it was on. Don't remember which one was one, I just quickly glanced at it as I was walking by.

I'm in Mississippi and to my knowledge grocery stores here don't sell wine. (They do sell things like Boone's Farm and wine collers.) Would bottles in the liquour store have the tags?

How did you find out that each state doesnt allow winetags? I'm in GA and have not seen a winetag but have heard of others finding them. I just thought I was unlucky.... Maybe they are getting them from someplace else. Theresa

Update on NJ. My DH works for a distributor & I currently have KJ wine $$ off chocolate NPRWTs. I asked him to bring home any extra he can or that they don't need (don't want him to get in trouble!). So... although I have only seen the one for use in NJ, I assume it's legal & that there are more.

I was just in Albertson's Today in the Las Vegas/Henderson, NV area and the wine section was FILLED with winetags. I took almost everyone until peoples eyes started my way.
I am trying to figure out how to put them up for auction or trade. I have them all typed up so if you're interested feel free to contact me. Have some that require wine purchase, some just straight grocery savings, and some straight wine savings.
I hope to have a I have list soon!! HTH

I don't feel right taking them off the bottles unless I am buying the wine but my Shaws and Price Chopper have many tearpads with coupons. Usually they are $1 off meat, cheeses, bakery, produce or seafood with NWP. I take several of the coupons off the tearpad. A few times I have found a winetag off a bottle left in a cart or on the ground. Those I have no problem picking up.
Last weekend I went to NH and checked out the wine section at Price Chopper. For a minute I thought I had found a goldmine. There were winetags everywhere! Unfortunately every one I looked at required a wine purchase and many were only good in NH :( Guess it's back to my local stores for winetags.

In NC they are NWPN so I don't feel like I need to buy the wine to use the wine tag. My store only has them on rare occasions, but this month they have had them for $2 off Rottisserie chicken... I take 1 or 2 each trip if there are more there. I don't get them to sell. I have used one in a coupon train, but usually I get what I can use and no more.

Can someone in New Hampshire please help me?
I live in NY, travel to Maine several times a year. We stop at the New Hampshire Liquor store, on both sides of the highway.
NEVER have I seen any winetags in this enormous store. Why? I understand NH is a yes on winetags, but why don't these liquor stores ever have any?
Is it just supermarkets? Where are the nearest Shaws and Hannafords to these liquor stores?
thanks.

you can't find them in NJ since it is illegal to sell wine/alcohol/beer here in the grocery stores. I too live in NJ and have to trade for any that I get (as well as beer NBPN MIR's). I wish that they were available here... it would make my life so much easier!

Here in the Flint and Detroit MI areas, I have noticed that over the years, winetag availability has dwindled down to just about nothing.
The very few that do show up are usually wine purchase necessary. And by very few I mean maybe one or two a month.
I can remember back about 8 or 9 years ago, you could find several of these at Kroger, Meijer, VG's every week, no purchase necessary. I used to get some good ones. So sad anymore.
I even wonder if the distributors keep them for themselves for personal use, or to sell?
