I think there are some of out there that yardsale, flea market, thrift store, consignment shop for other bargains. I know I do. I live in the land of no malls or major retail stores except for Walmart and Kmart. So I love shopping for gently used.

Yesterday I was at our local consignment shop and picked up 5 pairs of jeans for DD 15yo, all name brand from Donna Karen to Tommy all priced $3 to $5 each. I also found for me a perfect condition Brighton handbag for $25 (retail on these is $200-$300) what a steal. I have picked up 3 or 4 brighton bags there all under $30. Is my little splurge for myself.

So what are your brags?

I was at the Carter's Outlet yesterday. Got a cute pair of overalls for the Pinenut for $5.03 inc tax, and the girl gave me a $10 gift card (they have a promo going for a $10 gc WYB $50-- she made a mistake). So I made money.

So it's not a consignment brag, but a non-grocery brag nonetheless.

My best find ever was a set of 6 teak Scan dining chairs. It's a store only located in the Balt/Wash area.

I paid $40 for 6 chairs. If you had to replace them and ordered one from the store they were over 200 dollars each!!!!! They've been our dining room chairs for 9 years. You'd never know we didn't buy them brand spankin new.

I just moved to MT and I'm loving all the thrift stores around here. There are at least 4 and I'm not totally familiar with the whole city yet so there may be more.

I've found 3 Tupperware Serve -n- store trays. They retail for $28.50 and I paid $2 each for 2 and $3 for the other one. I also found the Tupperware Salad Spinner for $3. That baby is over $35!

But the item I'm most excited about is a heavy wrought iron patio table and 4 chairs with an umbrella for $60. I've been looking in WalMart but they were only at half price and seemed flimsy. I'm so excited about this deal. Now if the weather would hold a little so we can use it some before winter.

Hubby is most excited about finding a George Foreman Lean Mean Grilling for $5.

Bought an awesome "bed in the bag" set for R's new bedroom set... retails normally for $120... but it was on sale (AND in the 60% off clearance area). Coupled with my 10% employee discount, I got the king size set for $34!

On Friday, I got two pots of silks, white poppies in a black pot at Pottery Barn for $4.99 each. They were originally $24.99 each, now 80% off.
I also found a framed art piece at Macy's for $5.39, originally $36.99.
I got a pair of INC Men's slacks for $14.99. orig $59.00.
At Marshalls it was $7 for another pair of Men's slacks, Perry Ellis.
I don't just bargain hunt for groceries!

I've found some really good buys. My most recent great buy was a pair of "pointy toe" black dressy/ casual mules for $4.19 at Kohl's. They were 90% off. I just love them!!!!

Here in Mpls, Tuesday is a discount day at many of the thrift stores. Goodwill has everything with a certain color tag is $1.29 on Tuesdays.

And sometimes they extend that to the books with that tag to be "10 books for $1.29"

I started going because I wanted wool and leather for some craft/sewing projects. I've been felting the wool for slippers and rugs, and using the leather for the soles of the slippers. I've had no problem washing the leather in my washing machine....no drycleaning bills for me!

16 yodd is very tall and hard to fit for jeans. On top of that, she is very picky. We were at a mall in Ann Arbor, Mich, two weeks ago and I found a clearance rack of jeans at Express. She tried on one pair of dressy, dark, boot cut jeans and couldn't believe how well they fit. They were $19.99, originally $85. She bought another pair of regularly priced jeans at Holister for $35. She was thrilled to get two pair of jeans that both fit perfectly in the same shopping trip.

(I know those prices aren't rock bottom cheap, but when you are talking difficult to fit, we were thrilled! She shops consignment stores for tops but almost never can find jeans that fit there.)

I've been needing some new jeans but I have a hard time finding pairs that fit good. I know same old story as everyone else!!! LOL

I went to the thrift store yesterday. It was 50% off blue colored tags. I got 3 pairs of jeans (2 were Levis) and spent $11.00. :) I also found a pretty red floor length sequined party dress (good for our getaway coming up next June) for $9.99.

I was at an outlet mall in Orlando Saturday night - browsed through Carters and Osh Kosh but wasn't impressed. I finally found a children's store called Hartstrings, which is the outlet for a brand called Kitestrings. I'd never heard of it. I found out why...the cashier told me the brand is mainly in stores like Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms, where of course I don't shop (can't imagine why...lol). I found three 80% off clearance racks in the back and hit paydirt. The original prices were $30-$60 for summer tshirts, rompers, etc. which of course we wear all year here. I mean HOLY COW - $40 for a baby's tshirt?????? You have to be clinically insane to buy this stuff full price - my baby just barfs all over everything he wears anyway. I ended up getting 10 different items for DS that will fit him over the next year or two for $53. I was very excited...we've never had designer baby clothes before!

DH just left the auto parts store and was so excited by this money saver that he had to call me on his cell phone. LOL

The starter in his 1996 Toyota pickup has been working intermittantly over the past 3 or 4 days so he went to go get a new one to put in over the weekend. And he knew being a Toyota part it was going to hurt the checkbook a little.

The man told him that Toyota starters have little electrody things on the back of them and he may not have to buy a new starter afterall. Just take out the starter, change 2 little thingys and put the starter back in!! The Toyota dealership goes to that store and buys these things a few dozen at a time, and then they mark them up big time when people bring their vehicles in for starter replacement. Apparently there's 2 different types so dh bought 2 of each (to save a trip in case he bought the wrong one, and he'll return the wrong one next week) to the tune of $1.00 apiece!! WOO HOO!!!

The best part is that even though dh is not really mechanically inclined, if it proves to be too much for him to handle this job, my dad is a mechanic and will help out!!! He'll be cussing as he helps since it's a Toyota, but he'll help nonetheless!!!

I stumbled onto another potentially good deal today when I ran out for a quick errand this afternoon. I stopped by a yard sale and was poking around (no kids with me, so I was in super slow motion! lol) and found a ring binder and a box full of hockey cards (it must have at least 200-300 cards in the box) all for $5.00. I can't wait to go through them and see what all is there and grab out the handy dandy value catalog and see if anything is worth anything at all, or at least my $5.00 investment.. LOL

I took 16 yodd to Maurice's in our small town yesterday to buy a pair of khaki pants for her first waitressing job. While she was in the fitting room, I noticed a rack of shoes with a $4.95 sign way up high. I called that to her attention and we went over and found a very cute pair of size 11 brown espadrilles with ribbons that lace up the leg. DD has a brown skirt and brown gauchos that would go great with these shoes. We NEVER find size 11 shoes marked down, never!

It was the bonus of a great shopping day: dog food at Walmart, too many great deals at CVS to mention, and shoes on sale!

I was at the thrift store yesterday and they had a bunch of the books that have the sound effects or songs that you play while you read. I bought 5 of them - Elmo, Dora, Batman, Little People, and a Christmas one. The thrift store was having a sale on books 5 for $1.

I saw the same books in WalMart last night for almost $13 each. Awesome that I only paid .20 each!

We went to Albertsons the other night to get our free deodorant, and there was a sale bin of books 50% off. There was a sign stating that the sale ended the day before, but I picked up a cute little DK board book marked $6.99 anyway to see what it scanned. We got 16 Soft & Dri and a box of teething cookies. We got to the register and the book rang up for .49! The whole total was $3 and some change, which was mostly tax from the deodorants. The cashier was scanning the coupons and asked another cashier who was standing nearby, "Can she do this?" (referring to me getting the deodorants for free). The other lady said, "Why not?"

I went to the newly opened Eddie Bauer outlet to poke around for something for DH for Christmas. I have a feeling I won't feel like shopping with a newborn.

Blue windowpane oxford buttondown-- originally 59.50 (60% OFF!)

Red sweater vest to match the red line in the shirt-- originally 44.50 (60% OFF!)

Less $25.00 Eddie Bauer gift card from that Summer Preview survey that we did on DAGG

Final price= 18.90 for over $100 worth of clothes

Not even close to free, but definitely not asking price, either.

8 Scholastic "My Very First Winnie the Pooh" books
1 Baby's Bedtime Book (great poems from Robert Louis Stevenson and the like)

Today DH and i went garage saling after my haircut
($15 well spent I've not gotten a hair cut since Mid Dec) at a friends house (where she offered me her medela pump in style at no cost).

DH got a spreader for the lawn for $12 (brand new with price of 26 on it)
Hunting jacket, bibs, gloves and hats $10
Funky wine rack its about five and a half feet tall - its a waiter and his legs hold the bottles and he has "tray" where you can put a plate for snacks!! $5 DH really liked it and I'm sure it retails for $40 bucks

SO we spent $27 saling and $15 for my haircut for well over $400 bucks with of stuff if we got it new :)

GOOD DAY in my book!

A big box of pegs for DH's pegboard...$1

and a drawer divider...$0.50.

DD got a few things too...

We did a bit better at Lowes where I got a ceiling scraper device for $1.50, nice heavy shower curtains for $0.60 and a few little odds and ends. I was excited about the scraper as that is a very messy job and I really hope this gadget works!!!

we hit one yard sale this AM while running to the PO. Scored 3 summer outfits for Carly at .50c each. A little pillow that says "Queen of everything" for $1 and one of those jar candle holders with like a ceramic lamp shade for $1.

Does anyone make a list of items they are looking for when yard saling? Or am I the only nut like that? This year on my list so far is: (this could be yard sales, free cycle, or clearance)

winter clothes for the kids and a few summer outfits for Carly and Parker.

Swing set for back yard

Sleeping Bags and a tent

Copper pots and pans and pretty pink dishes (I collect these)

Geoge forman grill w/removable grill plates (bigger than what we have)

Lamps for my bedroom

Entertainment center with bookcases on the side and cupboards on the bottom that can be child proofed.

Hardcase CD breifcase

Books for the kids.

Oh and I scored free kitchen cabinats to day when one of my neighbors is moving and redoing thier kitchen and so I asked if I could have the old ones for garage (stockpile) storage. I make a mental list of what I am looking for.

I was actually able to get out to the sales today without any kids! I went to a few, but didn't find too much that I didn't think was over priced. I got Eli a gymbo zip up hoodie sweater for $1, Braylen a zip up hoodie sweater from old navy for .75, a cute sesame street bibs outfit for .50, and a tommy hilfiger purse for $2.

I went out looking for jeans for Rhyne, and I found one sale that everything would have fit, but they wanted $5 per outfit!! True, they were nicer and brand name (calvin klein, tommy, gymbo, ect) but I am not going to pay that for yard sale clothes lol!! I don't care how much they cost new.

Our ds is 15...no more swing set or kiddie books <---he has a wall full. His swing set is one of those wood deals with the tent on top. It was a 4y/o b'day gift from my parents. He's been too big for it for about 5 years! LOL

My George Forman...never use it.

So much for all my talk about not getting a train table for my kids (I said they'd climb on it, jump off of it, etc). Last Friday I was reading the tag sale ads in the paper and recognized the addy of one of dh's Marine buddies and he had a train table listed, as well as lots of other toys that his 2 kids have outgrown.

So for $10 we are the proud owners of a train table that is in excellent condition, which currently remains empty and probably will until 7/9 when DS#2 will be getting a wooden train set for his birthday.

My on the lookout list is:

NHL Hockey cards
clothes for the kids, either summer or for the fall/winter
snowpants for ds#1 for this winter
Swingset for the kids
adult size picnic table
and a briefcase

I haven't made it to many this year but about a month ago I found an unbelievable deal on Lego sets for DS. 4 boxes of Lego sets - 2 Aqua Raiders, 1 Creator and 1 Batman related. At the Lego website, 2 sets cost $29.99 each and the other 2 cost $19.99 each. And I paid - ta da - $5 in ALL - seriously! All boxes were open but a couple of them had all sealed bags with parts! Even the ones with opened bags seem to hardly have been used. I am usually skeptical about buying Lego or K'nex that has been opened, but for this price, I figured he could build something if not the piece pictured - lol. But, other than a missing wheel, DS has not missed any parts! Even with the missing wheel item, he improvised :) Hours of fun for next to nothing. Nonetheless, I was quite pleased

I hit a yard sale last week while driving by. One woman had tupperware bowls, small cereal, nedium 1 qt and large 3 or 4 quart along with small 12 oz cus and about a dozen of the 22 oz cups. They were all stained and had nicks and chips out of them. None had lids. I called the tupperware 1-800 number and they asked me for all the tiny numbers on the bottom of all the items, it was over 40 items total, they shipped me all replacements for free except for a $5 flat shipping charge. Did not ask for anything back, they said it is a lifetime guarantee. All the new stuff arrived in three days with lids and everything. I am going to sell all this stuff at my next yard sale, the old stuff, lol. I only paid the lady $5 for it all, she said make an offer, I did, and she accepted it. She had just bought all new stuff to replace all her old worn out stuff, lol. Lucky me. So now I will keep an eye out for worn out tupperware at flea markets and yard sales.

My family is always asking me what my latest finds are because DH and I go to thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales and look for items that we can make a profit from on E-bay. I buy books for about 0.25-1.00 and sell them for $50- $300.

We also look for old Coca-Cola items, because we collect them. The best thing we've gotten was a bottle for $1 that is worth $50. I think it is really the thrill of the hunt that makes it fun.

I just love my local thrift store.
Yesterday I got:

2 Pairs of cargo pants for the hubster
Boucle tweed crop jacket for me (so in style right now)
Fine gauge sweater w/ a cute argyle print to wear under a suit jacket
Some fun retro fruit fridge magnets
Some clip thingies to take to work
2 retro pinback pins-still in the package- to take to a girl at work (she likes flair)
An airtight locking jar to keep stuff in the pantry.

$5.55
No sales going on or anything.
Yep, I love my thrift store!

I've taken some of mine and the kiddos clothes to a consignment store near me. I got a 50% off one item card in the mail this past week for being a new consigner. I was hoping to use the money made off the clothes to buy my ds some new shirts. The sleeves are too short on almost all of his! (Last winter all of his pants were too short and now the shirts! What to do!) I went to see what I could find and I had $4.39 in credit. So with that and the 50% off I got him a nice sweater with tools on the front (that he loves, yeah!) for .32 oop. :BigHand:

We have a trip to Florida coming up at the beginning of August, and because it's only a 2 day trip, we agreed not to check any luggage, just bring one carry on apiece. So I went to the local thrift store called NUTS (Neat Used Things for Sale).

I found two things; one is a "Milana Kids" carry on luggage that I paid $2.64 for. It's in good condition. The colors are dark blue, red, and yellow. So I guess kid themed, but it'll work for me!

The other is a dark green bag by Samsonite in nearly perfect condition. They only wanted $1 for it!! I was tempted to get it and eBay it... but I think we'll keep it. It'll last for years, so we won't have to buy another. :)

I love going to my local thrift store which serves two purposes.
First, all clothes are $1.00, and the money goes to mission work for local women who are abused, alone, etc.
This week, I spent $27 and got nearly new clothes from Levi,
Mudd, SO, etc.
What a great way to change my closet. Give and Get new (at least new to me. I am a flea market, garage sale, thrift store junkie! Glad to know there are others like me.

I went to Goodwill a couple of weeks ago to drop some stuff off. You have to pull around the back of the building to drop it off and when I pulled up, I noticed they had am oak kitchen table, 2 leafs and 6 chairs there. My mom made mention of the set and I thought nothing of it. She had me come over and look at it and it was beautiful! Very sturdy, few scratches...the lady sold it to me for $50!!!

I had no intention of going shopping this weekend, even though it was tax holiday here. I figured what little I'd save in taxes wasn't worth the hassle and I could save more going to Goodwill or the local thrift store anyway. But my mom showed me an ad in the paper for 50% off at a new thrift store this weekend. So I took dd and ds to look for school clothes.
I was thrilled. We found Izod, Tommy Hilfiger, Arizona Jeans and lots of other name brands. (Some of the clothes still had retail tags on them showing prices of $24.00 each.) I bought 21 items of clothing and 1 pair of Nike Air shoes for $45.00, plus they gave me a brand new backpack free. What a deal!!

We went out today looking for shelves and desk chairs (which we found!), but the best deal was a Kate Spade New York handbag with a matching wallet and check book cover, for $5!! They look brand new. I did a google search on the bag, and it looks like it cost around $300+ and the wallet was $200+!! Yay me!!

I freeze tomatoes all the time .. I blanch them for about 3 minutes in boiling water, remove the skin, let cool and freeze for sauce during the winter ..

I find that freezing cherry tomatoes whole and uncooked work great ..

Have fun with the foodsaver .. I have had mine for 3 years and LOVE it!!

We had to go to PetsMart yesterday, and on the way there my husband pointed out a sign that said there was a community yard sale at the local ag museum. (I love my husband!) We ran to the bank for cash and went back. There were a dozen or so different booths.

I got 26 pieces of clothing for my son (9 rompers, 8 shirts, 4 shorts, 2 overalls, 3 sweaters) for 25 cents apiece!! I've never seen clothing that cheap, usually it's 50 cents or more! And the woman didn't feel like doing change, so she charged me $6 instead of $6.50.

Within the last week or so, my son had ruined at least five different outfits (food stains, mildew stains from the move, etc). So this was GREAT!!

We also got a great, heavy duty plastic baby gate for $5. It's soooo easy to use, my husband and I are in love with it. The same baby gate sells online for $35-$45.

I went to a local thrift store this last Saturday. I got:

*a Gymboree dragon costume size 18-24 months for my son; it's one of the full body costumes, very plush and cute. $2
*a Evenflo bed rail for the side of our bed (our son sleeps with us) $2
*a hand puppet, 25 cents
*4 hardback books, 50 cents apiece
*6 paperback books, 25 cents apiece
*26 pieces of clothing, mostly jeans and sweaters for me, most are name brand (Land's End, Unionbay, Old Navy, New York and Company), marked 25 cents apiece or 5/$1.

For all of this, I spent $12.53. This same thrift store has a coupon out in the city paper every week, for 10% off entire purchase.

And what's even better, is that when I got home and washed/tried on the clothing, of the 10 pairs of pants/shorts I bought, only two do not fit me! And they WILL fit me after this pregnancy.

Went to our local flea market,2 weeks ago.Found a NEW Fabric Shower curtain with linner paid 1.00. Still had the original 19.99 Kmart sticker on it.Got a New Rug with Fish on it for 1.00.My best deal that day was the NEW Electric Pressure Cooker w/crock pot.Young couple were asking BF 40.00.When I ask them they said 30.00.Offered them 25.00.I got a 100.00 pressure Cooker for 25.00 .I am a flea market junkie. The children know saturday & sunday are flea market days.Go to the Goodwill once a week.Smiley Flea market is a big flea market so I start at one end BF starts at the other end.If we find a deal that the person is asking a high price we will call each other then have the other person to ask about the price. You would be suprised how people will ask one person 1 price then when another person ask they will offer it for a different price.I some times get a better price when I have the children with me.Son gets alot of free stuff. There is always someone giving him books, trucks, even got afew vhs movie.

That's a great idea, heh. It may be that if they tell you X amount, and you're not interested, they decide to lower the price and hope it sells to the next person (that just happens to be your BF). I miss flea markets; when I lived in Florida, there was a HUGE one called Big Top in Tampa. It was great!

I've noticed this same thing. :) My two year old usually always manages to get something free every time I take him with me to yard sales. Last time we went to Goodwill, we were leaving and another lady was walking up with a kid's toy. She asked if we wanted it, I said yes! He loves that toy.

To make ends meet, I do a bit of eBaying. I almost always research things like video games and whatnot before buying them to make sure I can make a decent profit off them.
Well, I was at my local flea market and found this great Super Nintendo there with all the cords and it included 4 games, one of which was Zelda (which I thought would go for decent). I ended up getting it for $15. Well, come to find out that the Zelda game wasn't worth anything because it's so common, but there were two other games worth about $40 dollars all together and the console gave me back the money I spent on all of it!
After I moved to where I'm currently living, I went and checked out this vintage rock shop. They sold band shirts and stickers and albums and all that, but they also sold all sorts of video games. Even original nintendo and I think Atari. After looking at the prices I thought they were ridiculously overpriced, but they were all priced pretty much the same. So, when we got home my boyfriend checked the prices on some of the games and woe and behold some of them are extremely rare! So, I definitely intend to head back there for some of those games worth 80 bucks!!!

I am on a yard sale roll these days.

Last weekend I got a brand new changing pad (retail $22 and had the tag on) for $8. She sold me 2 Pottery Barn Kids chamois covers (one new, one used, retail $29 each) for $10.

The lady just called me and said that the glider and ottoman that I really wanted was still there, and I could have it for $40... she originally had it priced at $60.

It is a white glider with pink waffle weave fabric, and looks brand new. She said "gently used", but I think she may have had a blanket draped over it. It's definitely worth more than $40. Woo hoo! DS loves to be rocked, so I don't want to take the one I already have out of his room.

I went to a "gigantic" yard sale today at a local church. I was there a few minutes before the advertised open time, and I wasn't really impressed. A few tables of odds and ends, and clothing racks. The clothing was labeled $1.50 apiece, and it included baby clothing.

I found the following things:
*Two pairs 24m jeans, $1.50 each
*10 paperback books, 25 cents each
*5 toddler puzzles, 25 cents each
*Box of 11 different sized mason jars, $5
*Sofa sized slipcover, no price (told $3)

When I went to pay, the woman added up my items and instead of charging me $14.75, she only charged me $8.50. So I'm definitely a lot happier now, than when I walked in.

I'm really glad I found the slipcover. We've been looking for them, but I do NOT want to pay $60 for a new one at Walmart! At first glance, I didn't see any holes or stains, and it appears to be of very good quality.

*sighs happily* I love our local thrift store. I've gotten great deals there before, and today was definitely no exception! It's been awhile since I went (I think my last time was before Thanksgiving), so I was actually expecting to be disappointing. BUT! I was able to get the following:

*53 pieces of newborn/infant girl clothing
*a pair of shorts for my husband
*3 paperback books

And my total, with tax, was.... $9.44!!

I'm due in mid-March, and I don't even know if I'm having a boy or a girl! So being able to get essentially a wardrobe for the entire first year, for less than $10, is super fantastic. The pieces are all clean, with no stains that I saw... a lot of it is The Children's Place, Old Navy, etc. So, even if this one is a boy, we'll still be able to turn around and sell the clothing at a nice profit. :) :)

It was great to get out of the house by myself and do some thrift store digging!

My best deal to date was '90's (I forget the year) Cutlass Supreme. It was my brothers car. A bus side swiped it.

I bought it off of him as is. State Farm fully insured the car by accident. I was involved in another accident a few years later. State Farm had to pay $1300 for the damage. I drove the car with the slight additional damage.

I drove the car until 2006 when the car cost more to repair than Kbb. A company paid $40 for its part sand towed the car off the repair shop lot for free.

So I made 1300 + 40 = 1340 - 250 = 1090 and drove the car for 10 years.

The FBI wanted the car too. It had a 2.8 litre engine. The car was fast. I loved that car and cried when the car was towed away.

I have started frequenting my local GW Boutiques (that is neighborhood code for Good Will). They have $1 day clearance racks. An one of them actually marks the rack to $.50 per piece once in a while. I found a pair of Talbots black honeycomb fabric pants for $0.50 one day. Since the material has such an unusual texture, I decided to look through the regular priced section of blazers to see if I could find something to match it. I couldn't even believe my eyes when I found the matching black jacket. Even though the young man who rang me up was confused as to why both were not marked on clearance, I bought both pieces for $8.00. I have a young co-worker who works at Talbots part time. She told me that the retail price on the suit was $225.00. I happily paid the dry cleaning bill and proudly wore the suit to work the next week.

I went to our local dump for the first time today.. After disposing of my garbage I decided to take a look around the store... I found an awesome solid wood carving of a father and mother holding a baby, a olive oil thingy... When I went to cash out there was a bag with 4 bundles of 'no expiration date' coupons! Of course I asked how much they were. FREE! I took them! 99 % of them are 'no expiration date' but there are a few that expired in 1987-89!
If they say no expiration date then the stores have to take them, don't they? I haven't looked through them all yet.

Last weekend, I went to my first garage sale of the year. The lady was selling baby clothes (nice, name-brand, no stains at all) for TEN CENTS!! Some were actually only five. I had to double check to make sure I wasn't seeing things! Then I proceded to buy pretty much everything she had. :) Also got a really cute, polka dot Boppy for $3. I didn't have any luck the rest of the day, but it was worth it!

Well, I've had really good luck with garage sales this summer! My SIL is pregnant, so baby items have been my main focus. So far I've gotten....

Hard to find Carter's John Lennon Bassinet $8 (also included 6 extra sheets -- retail around $150)
Graco Pack 'n' Play - $5. Newer model, but none of the 'extra' stuff (bassinet insert, changing station, mobile, vibration/music) was included. Still does it's job, and was super cheap.
Changing table - $5. Not sure of the brand, but it's a light oak wood and in great condition!
Evenflo carseat w/ base - $5. Will be used as an extra for when I babysit. It's an embrace, and I got the replacement parts to fix the handle that got recalled.
Fisher Price travel swing - $8
Bouncy seat w/ toy bar/music - $3
Brand new Boppy w/ cover - $3. Also got an extra used one for $0.50.
Crib bedding - $5. Gender neutral and super cute!

Those were all of my 'big' purchases but I've also gotten a bunch of smaller items. Blankets, bibs, burp rags, toys, set of 4 wicker baskets, wipe warmer, bottles and pacifiers (new) and CLOTHES, CLOTHES AND MORE CLOTHES! Both genders, all sizes.

This baby is set! They are SO grateful that I've taken the time to go out every Thurs-Sat and find all this stuff for them! I've been 'shopping' all summer and have spent MAYBE $100. They won't have to buy much more than a crib, travel system and maybe another pack 'n' play! It's been so much fun. :D

Last week, we received a lot of brand new free stuff. We received a .999 silver piece worth $55.

This week, people moved out of their house while we drove by to a garage sale. They made a free pile. I found a brand new white wipe board and matching eraser. The value of both is $100. DH is taking both to work.

I've found NIP envelopes, mailing labels, Leap Frog toys, boys basketballs, etc.

Our state just raised the sales tax. Pfft to that!

And it wasn't even my garage sale. I was helping my MIL with her garage sale because she is moving so I thought I would bring some of my extra stockpile stuff to sell. I don't buy stuff to resale but if something gives overage I will buy almost anything. So I had a bunch of stuff to sell cluttering up my basement. Hauled it to MIL's and I couldn't believe how much money I made off of it - unbelieveable! Thanks to Post-Its, mustard, air freshener and K-Y Jelly.:wink7:

I went to a home last weekend where we scored two softball bats, sealed 500 ct of paper, brand new jack daniels wooden logo, 2 cases of 100 ct boxes of eye drops, dell computer bag, and a 500 ct unopened plastic wear. I returned the area the next morning. I found a brand new emergency kit, cork board, and baseball card book. There were at least $50 in cards. I went to another home the next night where I picked up a large basket, brand new 6 can Arctic cooler, and a full can of starch. Then yesterday I picked up 500 comcs worth over $1200.

I'm jealous!! The garage sales around me never seem to have anything good. Maybe its because most start on Friday and since I work full time, I can't get to them until Saturday morning and by then all the good stuff is gone. It seems when I do find something I want, they are asking too much $$. For example, I am searching for Little People for my DD. I found a Little People house with some small pieces. It retailed for about $35. It was obviously used and there was no box and some pieces were missing. The people were asking $20 and would not negotiate. I would not spend more than $10 for something like this. Maybe my expectations are too high.

I need to go garage sale shopping with Mothernature to learn how it's done!

I need to go garage sale shopping with Mothernature to learn how it's done!

The aforementioned items: the first was given to us, the other three were curb side. I paid nil.

My garage sales highlights (last week): $4 Gameboy Advance SP with two games and brand new Huffy boys bike with training wheels for $5. I found a $1NIP bell for a bike a month ago and $1 package of brand new pads (knees and elbows) three years ago.

I've run into those type of garage sales Linda. If you want those kinds of price, go sell on Ebay.

So excited to find two Boppy pillows, complete with slipcovers, at a local area thrift shop yesterday! They were sitting with other pillows on a couch (haha!). I don't think the workers knew what they were. In any case, one is definitely not as firm as it should be, the other one is much firmer! One has a blue striped slipcover and the other one has a polka dot modern slipcover on it. And get this: Only $1 a piece! I already own one Boppy (that I paid $2 for at a yard sale, and my SIL bought me a nice, new slipcover for) and now I have two more slipcovers!

I'm pregnant with #2, so if it's a boy (we shall see...), the blue slipcover will come in handy as the only one I have right now is definitely pink & girlified. I think I'm just going to try to sell the actual forms (because I don't need 3!) at a garage sale come spring.

I looked up 'boppy' on my local craigslist, and the cheapest anyone is selling them for is $5/ea. One lady was asking $15 for the form and the polka dot slipcover that I have. Who knows if she'll actually sell it. =) Just wanted to share some of my happiness!!

I am moving and went to Goodwill looking for lamps. I found a really nice looking desk lamp for $8. I recognized the brand name and got that sucker out of the store fast.

It’s an Ott Lite lamp that Google tells me has a retail price of $139.99. And the bulb is still good and everything.

They clearly didn’t know what they had when they priced that thing.

I'm not sure if this counts, but today was 'junk day' in my city. I LOVE this day! We usually get in the car and go cruising the mega rich neighborhoods. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff they were throwing away!

We got a brand new litter box for our million cats, still had the tags on it and in the bag with the receipt. Had been purchased the day before. Was being thrown away because it had a crack in the corner that was so cosmetic I didn't even see it at first.

We also go two golf club daddies. Only thing wrong with them? One is missing a strap, and the other is missing a buckle. Already been replaced for less than $2.50. I've had two people email me willing to buy them both for $50 total.

We also got two small sets of shelves for the stockpile room! WOOT!

I LOVE 'junk' day!

I have to post my brag! I treated myself this morning by stopping at a yard sale this morning before volunteering at my kiddos' school. I was going to stop at a few, but this first one was massive -- it looked like the whole house exploded onto the driveway. I knew the lady from my dd's former dance studio and knew she has 3 dd's - 5 to 13. Anyhow, at least 100 pairs of shoes, and thousands of items of clothes. They were all 50˘ ea. I picked out 3 pair of shoes for dd -- 2 Converse in excellent condition (I knew the kid who wore them is a clean kid), a pair of pink MaryJanes, 9 pieces of clothing for dd (Gap, Old Navy, jeans...), a belt and a pair of Gap tights.... AND THEN I SAW IT! Under a table, I spotted a white KitchenAid mixer. I asked if it worked and she said yes, but she got a blue one to match her kitchen. Her DH even bragged his mom's was still going strong at 32 yo.... I asked the price. Wait for it....Wait for it....Wait for it....$20! Yup! I paid $26.50 for a Kitchen Aid Classic 4.5qt Mixer, and all those clothes and shoes for my dd! I went home and cleaned it up (at least 1 hour of elbow grease) and am now the beaming owner of a new to me KitchenAid! Woohoo!

I have lots, but some of them are a few months old, and maybe it's not fair because I work in a consignment shop.
Got my niece a 2 pc set-Ralph Lauren, shell & cardigan to go over it, cashmere! $8!!!! Size 3t.

Got my son a very nice sweater that he wore over the holidays several times, saw it on Gap website for $58, I paid $12. Got same son a very cute pair of Timberland shoes for every day, $7.

My 4 year old, I just picked up two red items for him, he really didn't have anything nice in red to wear to school and I know they'll be doing that this month for valentine's day. Red Gap sweater- $5, red half-zip fleece from Catamini-$5. I love the fleece, it is so cute. He looks cute in red too:smile:
I treated myself to two items- a Ralph Lauren white tneck sweater with a gray stripe and gray cords to go with it. The cords are Caslon, which I looked up & it's the Nordstrom's house brand. They are so comfortable, and the outfit makes me look & feel a bit better to schlep around town in, instead of my usual sweats.:rolleyes24: $10 each item.

People were selling like crazy in Pennsylvania for the National Pike Festival. At the yard sales we picked up:

6 piece glass canister set with the rubber seals and clamp lids for $10. It has the cutest farm scene painted on it.

An electric circular saw for $5. The only thing wrong with it was a piece of plastic was cut in two. My hubby fixed it up with super glue.

A Graco Pack 'n Play in pink with the infant bassinet attachment for $25. It's very clean. The only thing I can tell is missing is an electronic element that may have been a mobile.

Usually our small town has about 15 to 20 garage sales every weekend, and this weekend there was only 8.
I didn't get anything good this weekend, so I'm scouring Craigslist for odds and ends we need for our new house that we're moving into on Monday.
Things I did pick up:

Saw a listing on craigslist for an area I was passing anyhow. On the way, I stopped at a yard sale that had priced tables (25˘ table, 50˘ table, $2 table, etc...) At the quarter table I found a brain teaser book and a brand-new.in.the.package.still wrapped Snow White DVD!!! WOOHOO! At the sale I was heading to, it was clothes only and stuff a bag for $1. So, I stuffed 10 pieces for $1!! DD got most of the items. I got 1 shirt and DS got 1 pair of shorts. I would have gotten more, but the lady hadn't yet unpacked all the clothes. Apparently, she bought tons for a thrift store that she never opened. DS was getting antsy since it was taking a while to go through everything. I stopped at WalMart, and then headed home. I saw another yard sale sign, so I stopped and realized the lady was a homeschooling mom. SHe had nice curriculum, including a book I've been wanting to buy for help with DD: Teach your Child to Read in 100 Lessons. It was in brand new condition, so I didn't mind spending the $5 on it. I also picked up misc. school supplies for 95˘. All in all, it was a great yard sale morning! Can't wait to shop again in the morning on the way t the gym!

While on our trip in Colorado, I spotted a thrift store near Ouray. Had to stop in and check it out, of course. :giggle2:

For a total of $16.xx, I got:
3 paperback novels
2 pairs of toddler girls shorts
2 steak knives
a bundle of used pens
a small loose-leaf notebook, .50
package of tabs AND loose paper to fit the notebook, still in wrapper, $1 (perfect for keeping track of my rebates, trades, etc.)
Baby Gap dress with matching hat and panties, very cute, $1.99 (still had tags on it, never worn) for my 2 year old DD
Nice, like-new cloth totebag with pockets

It was a very nice little store, very clean and lots of great stuff! I loved the book section: somebody was a reader and spent time categorizing everything: fiction, non-fiction, classics, cookbooks, travel, etc.

Today, my hubby and I spent a couple of hours in the intense summer heat of this Ohio summer...and went to several yard/garage sales. We got lots of little things...new games for the grandkids, a chalkboard for the toy room (we used to call it the spare bedroom), a "looks like it's never been used" crockpot, and some other odds and ends. We hardly spent anything!! But the best item in the whole lot was a BRAND NEW...still in the original box...Postal Scale!!! It retails for $30, but I got it for $5. I know...I should have talked him down even more! LOL!!!

Not sure where else to post this.

There is a high school marching band around here that has a HUGE yard sale twice a year, April and August. The entire high school gym is FULL of stuff, you name it, they probably have it: clothes, toys, books, furniture, knick knack stuff, videos, electronics, etc. The yard sale opens at 8am, and people are already lined up! Not me, I just show up when I get get DH and DD out the door.

I try to go every year. Went today and got lots of good stuff. Most clothes were .50 -$1.

~pair of khaki pants for DS (required uniforms at his school.)
~some solid blue shirt with collar for DS (uniform shirt to go with pants)
~T-shirts for DH
~denim shorts for DH
~tops and shirts for DD, size 4, to grow into
~a life-size baby doll, (19 inches long), soft body, vinyl head, excellent condition for DD, I think I paid $1. (I have baby clothes she grew out of that the doll can wear.)
~A large ziploc baggie full of misc. kitchen stuff: craft shears, 3 steak knives, garlic press, wire wisk, pizza cutter, and a bunch of other stuff, only $2 for all
~a large ziploc baggie full of blank envelopes, different sizes and colors, only .25. Later counted them, there were over 100!

Later, hit another yard sale.

Got a St. Louis Rams t-shirt for DH and a St. Louis Cardinals t-shirt for DD, paid only .50 each.

I do costumes for an area high school and the budget is always next to nothing. My favorite brag is a pair of pants that I have used in at least 3 shows (they've been used in plays/musicals set in the 1930s-1950s) and they only cost $.99.

I've also found three London Fog khaki trenchcoats in one trip for $12.99 each (for news reporters).

I have fun at the thrift stores, hehehe.

some of my favorite finds this year have been:
my 2 lamps I got at a yard sale. They still had the original tags, $50.00 on each on them. They lady was asking $10 each, we offered $15 for the pair & got them. They are gorgeous, brushed nickel modern lamps.
Another favorite find is a nintendo wii that we recently bought at a yardsale. It has 3 controls, 2 wheels, another lil controller & some games. We have put it up for a christmas gift for the kids.
My husband got a really nice pair of doc martins leather shoes at a thrift store for $1.50.

We went out yardsaling/thrift store shopping today. We found a church that was having a rummage sale, and when we got there, late in the morning, it was fill a bag for $1 sale. We got a couple of tops for DD, pair of shorts, a fancy velvet dress for DD, one men's shirt, two books, and a stuffed bear.

Then we hit the Shelter Shop in Belleville. This is a thrift store that has all volunteer employees, and everything is donated. Money made from the store goes to a women's shelter and to prevent domestic violence.

Twice a year, they have a "clear out the store" sale. They mark everything down, sell everything they can. Then they close the store for a couple of days and reorganize everything and put out "new" stock. In the spring, they get rid of all the winter clothes, then put out the new spring wear. Now they are getting rid of all the summer stock, and when they reopen, they will have "new" winter stuff out.

So we shopped there today, and it was fill a bag for $5. Monday it will be fill a bag for $4, Tues. for $3, then they close for a couple of days.

So for $5.39, we got: 5 men's t-shirts, two tops for DD, one pair denim overalls with Pooh on them, a stuffed T-Bone dog (Clifford's friend), a kid's backpack, one sweatshirt for DD, and a Winnie the Pooh book.

We went yard saling today. As usual, we did not set out "early" like some people do. Gotta get up, get dressed, get the kids up and dressed, etc. So it's nearly 10am before we leave the house, lol.

There were TONS of yardsales this weekend, we must have hit a dozen or more.

Highlights of some stuff we got:
~3 keychains shaped like high top sneakers, .25 each (my 14 year old niece collects them)
~Jeremiah Johnson movie on DVD, WITH caption (one of DH's favorite movies), $1
~paper shredder, excellent condition, $5 (tried it at home, yep, it works)
~winter coat for DD, great condition, $3
~6 pairs girls socks for DD, only .50
~tops for DD to grow into, .50 each
~two boxes of tealight candles, .25 each

Best deal of all: at one yardsale, I happened to look down, and found $11 on the ground! I asked around and it didn't belong to anyone, so I got to keep it. :BigHand:

Booklover, I also don't start out early, but prices drop closer to lunch!

Yesterday, I stopped at ONE yard sale since it was wet early and a lot got cancelled.....

DD6 SCORED these boots (http://www.dsw.com/shoe/bearpaw+dream+short+girl%27s+toddler+.and.+youth+b oot?prodId=203708&category=dsw12cat1360026) for $1 in excellent condition! I didn't haggle on those since I knew the quality was so nice and the little girls were selling some of their own items at heir own prices. I also bought DD a pair of pink like new snow pants for $2 and 2 chapter books (tagged from WalMart for $5.99 each) for 25˘ each. I was thrilled! Too bad yard sale season is wrapping up here since the cold is rolling in....

My MIL went to a local "Mile long yard sale" event. Where we parked at one end, took a wagon, and made our way up 1 side to the end, then come back the other side and end up at the car. Well, at the end of side 1, my MIL and my DD2 saw, what my DD thought was a puppy and wanted to go pet it. So they did. It was a female Chihuahua tide up to a porch railing with a regular walking leash, not a line. As soon as MIL gets to the dog, a man comes out of the house and says "If you want her, you can have her. We have 8 kids, 5 dogs, 4 cats, 22 fish, 4 birds and a ferret!" Assuming he was just joking, MIL allowed my DD to continue to pet the dog, whos name was Cookie. Again, the man said we could have her if we wanted her. My MIL already had 2 female Chihuahua mixes and I had 2 male bigggggg dogs! LOL So we agreed that if we got to the end of the yard sales and back to the truck, and still wanted her, we would just drive back to get her. So, we drove back to get her! LOL This time, the woman came out of the house and told MIL that she really didnt want to get rid of Cookie, but they have no room, etc. They also were having a yard sale, so while MIL was talking with the lady, I was "shopping" (all over priced, stained, ripped, junk clothes btw) and in a cage there was a "Min-pin/chihuaha mix male puppy for sale $200". Cookie, was this puppy's mother. Chiming in on the conversation, this lady is telling MIL that Cookie has had 3 litters, each puppy selling for $200, she has never been to a vet, has no shots, and may currently be pregnant again. WTH!?! So I insert myself into the conv and say, "we will be glad to take care of all of that, lets go now mom" and the lady says "wait! let me have your phone number, in case she is pregnant again, I want her back" She comes back out of the house with paper and pen, I wrote down a fake name and a fake number. This COW of a woman, was a mini puppy mill! We immediately took Cookie to a groomer because her nails were 3 inches long!!!!!! I have pictures!!! The groomer said the nails had not been trimmed in at least 4 months.
So, of all the great bargains we find at yard sales, I think rescuing Cookie from a piece of $%^& like her, was our best find ever. And let me tell ya, she is the best dog anyone could ask for.
oh and she is not pregnant

My DD got an Ipod at a yard sale for .50 cents. I really didn't figure it would work but we charged it up when we got home and it worked perfectly. It even had songs on it that she liked. The best part is there is a recall on this particular model and I'm sending it off today for a brand new model!!

The best deal we got last year at a yard sale was a printer for FREE!! The lady was giving it away because she didn't have a cord to go with it. DH brought it home, and found a cord to fit it, and it works! It's a better model than the one we had, too.

We bought DD's (now 2 1/2 years old) entire fall/winter wardrobe at yardsales: jeans, really cute ones with flowers or butterflies stitched on the leg, pockets, etc. paid only .50 each, and got several pairs, some to wear now, some to grow into. Sweaters and sweatshirts, and long-sleeve shirts, paid only .25 or .50 each. And a winter jacket, paid only $3. A velvet dress, that she wore for holiday gatherings, paid only $2.

We bought only a few things new to fill in the gaps: girls tights, a winter hat, socks, and underwear (getting ready to potty train soon).

It's winter now, and there are no more yard sales. :sad3: I won't see another one till maybe March. Can't wait!

Hi,

Here in N VA area since the last few weekends have been unusually warm, we have been to some yard sales and estate sales. We have got 6 board games for $3 ($.50/each), brand new Kitchen Aid mixer w/all attachments for $20, clothes (enough for our kids worth $200 for $10), purse for $1, etc.

Some people have had inside garage sales or basement sales too. I love the sales and that is why I haven't been shopping for groceries lately.

Foodie (Katie)

P.S. Also, last weekend we went to Rockingham County for a farm auction sale and DH bought a tractor and some tools plus other implements for our farm. Estimated retail value was $5000 and we paid $2000.:BigHand:

So I found an awesome Goodwill in Louisiana (I live just north of the stateline in Arkansas) that I might frequent a bit more later on. So for less than $30 I found:
-2 brand new with tag men's polos (adidas & a brand I can't remember)
-2 like new men's polos (nike and underarmour)
-brand new little girls fuzzy pink shirt with tags
-a pair of brand new Charlotte Russo high heels (can't wear them but I can find someone on eBay who might!)
-mint condition Kim Anderson collectors plate
-and a few organization things I needed

I'm excited. I may see about eBaying the heels, but the other clothes will go to some consignment shops I know.

I love consignment shops & yard sales!! Once at a yard sale, I nabbed a Liz Claiborne velvet dress for $10!!! Worked great for me - cuz I needed something to wear to a friend's wedding!

Consignment shops work great for me for two reasons: on a fixed budget and I'm losing weight {91 pounds and counting. Thank GOD}!! So, for me, it's just not feasible to go out and purchase new clothes all the time. There is one consignment shop in Mississippi that I visit often - I've found lots of name brand things there and never paid $10 for any item. There was another one closer to me in Alabama and man did I LOVE going in there! The owner had everything priced at $1! - and the stuff was NOT junk!! I was shocked...but so, so thrilled!! She even had "stuff a bag" sales, where you could stuff a HUGE KB Toys bag for $5!! Sadly, she closed her shop...she wanted more time to spend with her new grandbaby. I totally understand wanting more quality family time, but I miss that shop!!

I have been scoping yard sales and goodwill for things to sell on ebay. I found a pair of men's Dr. Martens shoes in the box for $5.00 at a yard sale awhile back. I sold them on ebay for $36. Not a lot of money but easy money, lol I sold the free flea collars from awhile back on ebay, those are hot items, lol people were sweeping them up like crazy. I had donated tons of trash bags full to the animal shelter before I realized I could have made several hundred dollars on them! but that is ok though because I love animals:) I did make some money off of the rest of the loot though, lol
I bought a bottle of Nina Ricci perfume at a yard sale last year for $30 and sold it on ebay for $60, then used that money to snowball more money. I don't have much money but if I keep trying to use the money I get from the sales I can buy a few more things at a time to sell again. Sort of like stockpiling, a little at a time, lol
Bought a bottle of Bath and Body Works wickedly chocolate lotion (smells great) at a yard sale brand new for $1.00 and knew it was rare so I sold it on ebay for $38 for a lotion! lol
I scope out Goodwill sometimes on a Wednesday when it is .99 certain color clothing and have bought jeans and put them on ebay. I am picky about the brand and has to be in mint condition so it is time consuming so I can't do it all the time. It has to be a very well-known good brand or it won't sell that good, lol I have paid .99 and then sell the jeans for $10-20 each. I only was able to do that a few times so far but I am going to do it again soon. It is just hard because you have to know exactly what kind of jeans you are selling, lol and I didn't realize how many types there are. boyfriend jeans, capri, cargo, relaxed, straight, flared, skinny, bell bottom, low rise, high rise, and other kinds. If you put the wrong kind the buyer can give you a negative and you will have to refund so it is a little scary but I am learning. I like it when the jeans tell you what they are in the inside, lol but a lot of them don't. I bought a bottle of men's DKNY (Donna Karin New York) cologne awhile back at a yard sale in the box for $10 and sold it for $38, lol I just wish I had more money at one time to really buy so I can really sell to make more money at one time, lol

Ok went to 2 Goodwills today and for $72 I came home with:
-1- brand new pair of kids baseball cleats
-1- like new women's dress capris
-3- baby outfits all excellent condition
-3- nice men's shorts, name brand
-1- juniors Aeropostle jeans, excellent condition
-1- exercise shirt
-17- name brand men's shirts

*whew* that was a long haul, but I think it was worth it. All but the capris and exercise shirt are going to be sold, so I should make a good profit on that :-)

Ok so I got some sold!! I made $57 today for 2 of the men's shorts and 11 of the shirts!! I also sold the baseball cleats for $10. The baby clothes are in a consignment shop (and the shop owner may buy them herself!). Just had to share!!

My daughter informed me that she needs a jeans jacket for recital. The hip hop teacher said she wants a look like Rihanna at the Grammys. I didn't watch it so I had to look online for a pic. The pic I saw showed a jacket with the sleeves cut off. Daughter mentioned something about cutting but she didn't know what. Let's hope I don't have to cut the sleeves off! I decided to look today because specific things like that can be hard to find in her size. We found one for $8.99 at Value Village.

Yesterday I went to Once Upon a Child (consignment store chain) and I saw a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag, marked $12. I asked if she could do any better, and she took another 20% off! $9.60!!!

I like it, it's lightweight and the print is my style, but even if I don't like it, the exact same bag is selling on ebay right now for $50+, with several bids.

Oh, I just found this thread! My best ever find, (well I have 2):

#1 ~ When DH and I bought our first house in 1989, I was a law clerk for judges at an old courthouse in Florida in the town I grew up in. We had no paintings or artwork. An old black man was a friend of one of the super old judges. He would bring his paintings of seascapes to the courthouse and sell them. I bought one for $45. It hung in our Florida house proudly, but DH didn't think it was art!! Well, that painter was Harold Newton and after he died it became valuable.

I sold it for $2000 on eBay!!!!

Here is one of his paintings that just sold on eBay:

TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL (http://preview.tinyurl.com/6plj74w)

#2 ~ When my kids were little, I would go to lots of garage sales early before school on Fridays. They were probably 4 and 6 at the time. They are now almost 17 and 19. But one day it was cold and rainy weather and I went to a sale. No one else was there. The woman was not set up at all. She just told me to look around her garage. I found a set of Sterling Silver Flatware. Not a complete set, there were 12 of each: cream soup spoons, tablespoons, dinner forks and salad forks. There were 12 non matching silver plate knives along with them. The woman told me exactly what they were. Her Step father had bought them at an auction. I asked how much and she said $8!!! Yes, that is all she wanted for them. She really disliked her Step Father and had no attachment to them at all.

I discovered the pattern after lots of searching. The pieces sell for up to $100 each on eBay, but I am not selling. I would never have bought them for the true price, but love having them.

After DS's soccer game, I took DD out to the yard sales. It is finally warm enough for them. Problem is - nobody advertises in the paper anymore so you have to drive around to find them. There were tons in the next town where DS's game was but DH didn't want to go. So, we drove to the stop sign and there were 2 yard sale signs. At the 1st one they called a "Rummage Sale", there were 3 vacuums for sale. I have an old Dyson that I have always loved. But, there was a sparkly one at the sale with 3 attachments and a price sticker of $30. I plugged it in to try it and it sucked impressively! So, I offered $25 and he agreed. He told me he "upgrades" vacuums often and only needs one. I realized when I searched it online that the exact refurbished model still sells on overstock for $310! SCORE! I also realized that 2 small onboard attachments were missing so I went back to the sale to see if he might know where they were. He couldn't find them but I left my # just in case he did. In the time I went back, DH cleaned up our old one (almost 10 years old) and listed it on a yard sale FB group. It sold right away for $35. The new one is a super sucker. I can't believe how much it picked up after my old one... So, I upgraded my Dyson and DH got us ahead $10. Then, the Rummage Sale Guy called back and let me know he found one of the missing attachments. I already picked it up.

At sale #2, DD found 2 dresses, 1 summer ruffled tank top, and 1 sparkly scarf. I found 1 tank top. Total spent: $1.25

So, we ended ahead $8.75. Great day!

Yard sales have just started, but I have gotten some good stuff!

We went yard saling today. This is what I got:

Paper shredder, $4 (works! Tried it out before I bought it.) We got a shredder last year at a garage sale for $5, and it lasted several months before it died. Considering that a new paper shredder costs $25-$35, I'm still ahead. :giggle2:

Mexican blanket, $3

A bag of clothes for my daughter, total was $5.75:
4 pairs girls tights, five cents each
Girl's T-shirt and matching shorts, $1, (Gymboree brand)
Girl's top and matching blue jeans, $1.50
Two summer t-shirts
One long sleeve cotton shirt

Got all these items for $1

Glass Coke glass
letter opener that is also a magnet
bottle opener
measuring teaspoon that has a slide thing on it so you can measure 1/4, 1/2, and 1 teaspoon
a plastic thing that you put a teabag in and squeeze liquid out

Last week, I got:

a cafeteria tray: now I have two, so I plan to give them to my teenage nieces for Christmas to use as lap desks for homework.

One yardsale had LOTS of homemade ceramics. I asked, and the person holding the sale said her grandfather made the pieces, and he had a studio in the house.

I bought a bowl, two mugs and a plate. They are really pretty pieces. I'm keeping the plate and bowl for myself. I'll give the mugs to my sister for birthday or Christmas. I think I paid maybe $1 each.

A set of full size flannel sheets that have signs of the Zodiac on them, paid $3. I plan to give them to my niece for a birthday or Christmas. The sheets look new.

Yes, my family is very open to receiving gifts from unusual sources.

I only went to "two" yard sales today, but both were huge. One was sponsored by the local high school marching band, and filled an entire gym.

The other was a neighborhood sale, and the ad said 25+ families.

Found lots of good stuff!

Ziploc baggie full of stickers, .50 (Pooh, Arthur, animals, Valentine, and some misc.)
set of hand towels, .50
4 paperback novels, .50 each
2 pairs nice earrings, $1 each (will be a gift for my sister)
Dora kid's suitcase, $3 (gift for my niece)
a Lego lap tray, $2 (gift for nephew)
Spiderman cap, .50 (gift for nephew)

Clothes for DD:
sweatshirt jacket with hood, $1.50
4 pairs Carter's footie pajamas, size 3T, $1.50 each
5 shirts, all Carter's, size 3T, one short sleeve, 4 long sleeve, .50 each
A bunch of girl's socks, .50 each

Black and Decker Coffemaker, missing the carafe, FREE
kitchen shelf, I'm using it to store coffees and teas
set of blue bath towels, $5
notepad with magnet, and two magnets with old Kellog's ads, $2

Not so much a 'find' as a method of using yard sales/thrift stores to save money.

I sew, a lot. The cost of basic zippers begin at $1.99 and go up from there rapidly.

So, I have started buying used clothing that has the zipper color I need - length isn't important as all zippers can be cut to the needed length (unless you're making a jacket that needs a separating zipper and you can't find the right color/length in used clothing). Reclaiming zippers and other hardware (cords, buttons, cord stops etc) saves a fortune!

And the best part? I find many zippers that come with beautiful zipper pulls attached, which if purchased would more than double the price of a store purchased zipper :BigHand:

At GoodWill, I find most of the zippers I need in the children's clothing section for $2.39, any article of clothing.

Works for me!
