thought I would start this thread now,
since rebates normally have a lagtime of 4-6 weeks :wink7:

I am going to keep a running tally of what monies I receive from MIRs, TMFs, and other rebate offers.

Who wants to join me??:wavehi:

Neat idea. I have been pretty good at the NBPRs but I rarely do others. I have sent off three in the past month, tho, and want to do better--perhaps you can inspire me :-).

We too do not consume alcohol
but
the rebates for other things are out there!

And I am going to work to find the ones that we can use!!!

I need to do better at this for sure. I get the forms and don't keep track of my receipts. Or I don't take them with me to the stores to see what I can score for cheap (like markdown meats). I'm in a non-beer purchase state too so I really should be doing more.

I do good for a while and then i get busy and don't have time and let rebates expire........

I am having a wicked time making good trades for the forms and my area never puts them out.. I have done really good in past years, although I find I purchase marked down packs of meat and the register shows them as " special today" so makes my receipt useless for some rebates I am aiming to ful fil. I have noticed some of the companies I was once able to full fill using the terms "worth" are not honoring that the same I have received more rejections this year than past years to and it really stinks because I really need the money coming in more that ever now. Not trying to be the bear of bad news I am still willing to try hard and work harder to make trades for the forms, I will be extra cautious to make sure I follow the rules and leave no room for rejection. That is my goal!

That'd be great! I keep a spreadsheet each year of rebates and gift cards I earn from SBKC, and Mypoints!

I saved 2 from the cold parking lot today. :)

And don't forget about keeping the environment clean as well. I picked up a crt from the floor near the door of a Food Lion and scored the two pizza purchases that are needed for the $6 Pabst Blue Ribbon offer. Yea for a cleaner environment.

Hi, I have a quick question. pp said "blacking out financial info", does that mean blacking out the credit or debit card number, or the store card, like a vic-card at Ht ot Lowe's card. Can you use food stamp receipts? Do you black out that info? This rebating is wonderful, I only started serious rebating in August (must be a slow learner), but I sent out over $200.00 worth for the month of November, so I am slowly catching on:BigHand:
Thanks, would love to know about the "blacking out" part!

I usually just black out the credit card number. I don't think the redemption companies care about the store card #.

I will be counting those received in the calendar year 2012.
I have never tracked rebates before so I am curious.
I've tracked just about everything else (BTFEs collected, coupons used, items donated to food pantry, items tossed out)
just want to see what I can collect in a year.

I really like the idea of saving it all for the Christmas fund.Thinking I will do that!

I'd love to do more rebates, but I don't find too many valid in my state for products we use. I'll have to look harder.

I downloaded a savings tracker that has a rebate section, and I love it.

Hey I'm in! I have $53 in rebate checks sitting on my desk ready to be cashed! I like to save them up for a month or so and then apply the cash directly to a bill so that I can reduce our debt. Since I live in UT which is a NBPR state, I really make some nice money doing this. I approach things differently though. I save all my receipts and have my family members do so also. Then as MIR's become available, I match the receipt to the MIR. I don't routinely go out and purchase things just to get the MIR. This keeps me from purchasing things that I don't need or use. I would love to do some more trading of MIR's. Would also love to have a spreadsheet so that I can track what money I get back. I have quite a few rebates that I need to send out before the end of the year so I need to get to work on these. I'm anxious to learn from you all!

Looking forward to seeing everyone's totals.

Count me in too :wink7: what better way to start the new years. I've been couponing for a few months now, (08/11) and once I got the sales w/ coupons down I wanted to start also doing rebates. LOL ... In the past I did rebates like I did coupons. If had used (coupons) / mailed rebates (if I knew about it)

I have read so much about others rebating here I thought WOW! I want to do that :giggle2: So what better way for me to start this.... Thank You for offering this fun idea......

I feel like I'm new to rebating it all seems so different then yrs ago rebates..... (Rebate cards use to be at the customer service desk - that was the only way I knew of a rebate LOL )
Does anyone want to help me learn?:giggle2:

IMO, overlapping items would be unethical. Also, any second receipt I've seen says "duplicate receipt" on it, or something to that effect. Almost all rebates call for "original receipt only (no photocopies)". So, I don't think 2nd receipts will work for you.

I often have to do multiple transactions at the register so that I have separate receipts to send in for my rebates. It is a major pain. It would be soooo nice if duplicate receipts would work, but they don't.

I am in on this challenge. I only do NBPR offers. I've been tracking my rebates via excel for this year. I've sent in $1,100 since Spring. My rejection rate is surprisingly low ($15 total so far).

I thought I had kept up with my totals fairly well this year - nope. I am missing totals for Jan 2011 and July 2011.

Between stockpile trades from some of my relatives checks and my barter to friends for checks - I was at 6747.92. :sad3:We lost over $500 for missed dates - from either late post mark dates or misdirected envies, missing crts and or delayed envies. It's why I preach that rebaters should ask the post master to hand cancel envies at the window and preach organization.
I don't even take stuff to the ups store anymore - They didn't post mark for me 2 different times - after I paid a crazy fee to have them ran that day - they were dated the following day.
The missing crt's,,,don't get me started,,,they were not rejections from the processing companies but helpers that misplaced them.:dontknow1:

I am definitely gonna keep better records for 2012 and aim for a lower wasting of money total.

Plan to work harder on my search for mirs this year. I know I only trade for a fraction of what is out there and don't take advantage of most of the tmf's.
Hope to change that this year.

12-28-2011, 12:12:23 AM
I would suggest that you start buying meat, pizza, water and chips in separate transactions. I also try to keep my orders at $30.

This is superbowl rebate season - I recommend that you buy sodas, pizzas, nuts, doritos, tostitos chips and salsa on separate crts.

I hate to miss out on a rebate because of one large crt.

I just smile and tell the peeps behind - sorry but I have more time than money.:whistle67: Most are nice about it.

dupe crts and ethics
- some rebates say you must buy the items yourself. Yep.
So always read the rebates. You may want to call and ask a company if they will accept a register printed duplicate crt. Lots of us have to use originals for business purposes and get an extra copy for our rebate.

I live in an non alcohol county - so no rebates around here. I trade for 90+% of all I submit. Normally if I find one - it's for something I have already traded for.
Lots of rebaters don't know that most of those smirnoff/redstripe/guinness will have 2 to 3 available for each rebate. Coors will put out multiples and heineken/amstel/dos equis will too.

North Carolina - oh man am I jealous. That state has twice the rebates as AL. I know I have seen at least 20 that are nc only - just this week.

I have not finished my tally but I slacked this year. My ongoing tally is @ $1,877 (net after expenses for forms/stamps not counting coupon for forms trades). 80% of my rebate checks came from beer companies and 20% from manufacturer's TMF and other offers. There's a few more days left and if I receive my Accucheck and beer rebates from late October submission, I hope to reach $2K.

TIAIF you're submitting to different companies, let's say Bud and Heineken, I don't see a problem. I ask for duplicate receipts @ WM so that when there are items needed for 2 different rebates, I can submit for both using "original" receipts.

to ask for duplicate receipts, just tell cashier you want a duplicate receipt so after she scans all items, she presses a key and at the end of transaction, you get 2 receipts. The same is true for WAG, request for a rebate receipt BEFORE the item is scanned so @ the end of transaction, a mfr rebate receipt will come out aside from the regular receipt you can use for other submissions.

One thing for sure, IF you are in doubt of something and think it is not right to do, it is best to use that as your guide. OR you can always call the company @ the toll numbers they provide. Make sure to list down names and date/time you called for future reference in case you get a denied postcard.

Don't forget about the rebate forum! I'll be honest; it's probably more up to date for NC than other states since I live in NC. I try and make sure these are all listed. Also, you can go into the database and search for NBPR NC. I like to check on ebay or look at people's wish lists for make sure what is out there.

OK-I'm in...I've been filling out lots of beer rebates in the past week or two. We would buy the beer anyway, so I might as well get the rebate. My favorite were two I sent in this week-both for Coors-buy $100 in gift cards and a 18 pack or lgr and get $25. I ended up buying Chick-fil-A gift cards (teacher gifts and some for us) b/c they came with a free calendar (filled with coupon FREEs) and Pat's pizza GCs b/c they gave us an extra $5 for each $25 GC. So a pretty good deal IMO. I do need to start keeping a journal of what I've sent in, I'm curious to see how it all adds up in the end.

I've been told Maryland is a NBPR state, but I've never seen a rebate that did not require a beer purchase. Anybody out there ever see one?

TY for this tip. At Price Chopper it prints up "duplicate receipt" so I figured it would not work. I haven't tried asking for 2 receipts at Walmart, but now I will try it. Do they say "duplicate receipt"? and if so, have you had any trouble with them? I hate the looks I get from people when I do multiple transactions.

I'd have to disagree. I tend not to do TMF or other rebates b/c I try not to buy what I don't need (unless it's makeup :whistle67:). But, in Dec alone I've done $476 in NBPR rebates (I also live in NY), all on grocery items that I would buy anyway. By combining the rebates with coupons and sales, I know have several free turkeys and hams in my freezer, and plenty of snacks in my cabinet, not to mention the rebates on gas, gift cards, party platters, pizza, produce, holiday decorations, cheese, etc. All stuff I'd have to buy for the holiday season anyway. Yes, it takes some time to search out and trade for the rebate forms, and organizing it all, but IMO it's worth it.

For Dec:
$476.00 rebates submitted
-$ 35.00 approx cost for trading some forms/postage (I found the rest)
-$ 20.68 postage to submit 47 forms
$420.32 profit

I don't think that's too bad. My freezer is full of meat, and I saved way more than I spent.

Wow!! Those totals put me to shame!! I do $25- $40 per month.
How do you get so many? Do you use multiple addresses? I never find any locally and have to trade for all but I have never found more than 5 or so available each month.
I really like the salty snack ones. I have teens so I am always buying chips. Also like meat and fruit cuz that's something I am also always buying.

How do you keep copies of rebate ,reciepts etc. Do you make paper copy or scan into computer?

I would really love to join, however, I've had problems understanding how to find so many forms. I too, will not buy things that we don't/ wont/ can't use. I would say that in the past, I've done about $100 a year in rebates and then didn't know where to go from there or how to find out what rebates were out there, so didn't keep up much. I always enjoy the rebates that go along with coupon items, RR, ecb, etc - those are just awesome :)

Any tips on things like that, guys? Cuz I'm REALLY thinking about joining this challenge this year! Thanks!

Hi Angelia,
I usually get 3 of each form (me, MIL, mom), and whatever I can't find in my local store, I find here on HCW. I've heard that bigger stores in my area have lots of the forms, but I'm not willing to drive 30 miles to find them. There aren't too many in my local stores, except for Magic Hat and Sam Adams and the lower value Coors Salty Snacks.

Since this is my first year doing NBPR rebates, I can't say for sure, but I think Nov/Dec are just good months for rebates? I did 16 offers (16 x3 ) total for Nov/Dec. (I mailed them out in Dec, so that is the $476 I mentioned, but to be more accurate I should have said Nov/Dec total.) My other months haven't come close to that figure, but then again I haven't tried that hard in the other months.

Yes, I make copies of the front/back of each rebate and any receipts. I label the copy with the offer number and date mailed in black sharpie so it stands out. Then I hang onto that until the rebate check comes. I suppose I could scan it, but I find paper copies easier to flip through. I also keep track of all rebates on an excel spreadsheet.

I use a small 3-drawer file thingy to organize it all. 1 drawer has all my supplies, and the other drawer is for receipts/rebate forms that need to be done, and the bottom drawer holds the copies of done rebates until the checks come.

I haven't found a great way of finding the rebates on HCW other than constantly checking the trade forum, wishlists, and rebate discussions. I think the trading piece is the most time consuming, but hey, I need the money, so I'll keep doing it.

Hi Melli! I would love you to join this, because you are so sweet. But first I need to know if your state is a NBPR state? Do you know? NY technically isn't, but for some reason we get NBPR forms. If I had to buy this much beer, it wouldn't be worth it! I don't even drink beer.

I mentioned on the previous page that I pick up random receipts in the parking lot. Sometimes (like yesterday) the person will have bought meat or will spend WAY MORE than I would ever spend at the store. :hysterical: I make sure to black out their financial info just out of courtesy. :wink7:

TY for this tip. At Price Chopper it prints up "duplicate receipt" so I figured it would not work. I haven't tried asking for 2 receipts at Walmart, but now I will try it. Do they say "duplicate receipt"? and if so, have you had any trouble with them? I hate the looks I get from people when I do multiple transactions.WM duplicate receipts says REPRINT BY OP #xxx(probably the register number) @ the bottom of receipt. I've had no problems using them when I had several items bought in one transaction that I needed to submit rebate to 2 different companies. I also avoid doing multiple transactions so I'd rather ask for a duplicate receipt if the store can print one.

oregon is just not a good rebate state...would love it if it was!

:flyingmoney:There are some decent MMs available for both of you -- if you don't mind buying beer. Coors and Miller run $25 rebates for purchasing 12 or 18 packs. Budweiser recently ran one for $40 if you purchased the same amount. You can become an alcoholic complying with them all. :hysterical:
You can always use it to trap those monster slugs in Oregon, but ours rarely get larger than half an inch.
I've been toying with posting a request for ideas in the recipe forum, but I'm not sure HCW members in NBPR states would understand our predicament. :giggle2: It isn't like the food bank would hand it out if you tried to donate it. Haven't heard of anyone using it as a hair rinse in years.
I don't like the taste of the stuff for drinking, but it does work well in a lot of recipes. I've got a great old family recipe for Beer BBQ meatballs, and recently tried the Beer Bread on the recipe forum. It also works great on beef roast in a slow cooker. Planning to try beer can chicken one of these days.

I buy beer like once a year because it's kind of a waste of money here and as far as other liquor goes, I probably buy maybe 3 bottles a year, so I'm no fun with a rebate form lol!!!!

So, I am getting ready to send in a bunch of rebates in the next couple of days. I obviously won't get the money for a few months (sometime in 2012). Are most of you all going to count these as 2012 rebates since that's when you actually receive the money? My first instinct would be to only count rebates that actually start after 1/1/12. Thoughts?

That is why I started this thread a few weeks before the actual 2012 calendar year begins.
Since it normally takes 60 days or more to hear back from rebates.
So yes, whatever I receive in the calendar year 2012 I will count towards the year's total.

I am in too! I am calling any rebate I mail in 2012 part of this challenge, so technically I'm at $0! It's how my spreadsheet works, so that's what I'm doing. I currently have no more rebates in hand to mail, so I hope lots more come out next month.

Just for reference, I live in MA which is NBPR for Bud, Absolut, Sam Adams, Mondavi, Sutter Home, Menage A Trois, and CBAI rebates (Red Hook, Kona, and Widmer, which I refuse to do). I also do RA SCRs, but those are few and far between now. I occasionally do Staples Easy Rebates, but usually only on printer paper or if I can convert my rewards to money. In 2011, between all of these, I submitted 121 rebates for a total of $688.07.

I don't have a goal for 2012. I just want to do every rebate from these companies that I can get my hands on because it's all free money for our next Disney trip.

I don't have any specific plans. Up until now, I just cashed my checks and put them with the rest of the money. Since I haven't been working for about a year and a half, every bit helps. I am going to keep track of how much money I am actually getting from rebates and other things this coming year to see if it makes any sense for me to look for a job. Mine is going towards paying off my car! I owe $7800 on it right now. Luckily this 'loan' is from my mom, so I am paying her back and she will be much more understanding than the bank would be if I was late or short on payment once in a while. Ok the rebates from the first 1/2 of the year will go into our "fun money" vacation account since we are re-starting what was an annual vacation until the last 2 years. It will be my cash for whatever I want to do while on vacation. But DH lives in Arkansas..as in rents an apartment..so we send them from his house. I'm not sending one from my house and one from his :wink7: (cause Kansas sucks! for rebates)).

I'm expecting aprx $200 from this month alone.

next month all I've scored some wine tags from Branson Missouri so far LOL. Those actually I can send from Kansas though! I have to purchase or Trade about 98% of the rebates I get. I can find none in Kansas. So the only thing I can get here are things like the Cars 2 rebate or P&G rebates occasionally.

I have to purchase or Trade about 98% of the rebates I get. I can find none in Kansas. So the only thing I can get here are things like the Cars 2 rebate or P&G rebates occasionally.

Pennsylvania is the same way. I'm not close enough to any state borders to see what might be available there, either, so I rely on the rebate and trade forums here to find out what's out there.

We don't get liquor rebates much here in Colorado, so I just have to stick with the food and household ones. I think I will be more diligent in looking for the forms though in the future.

HCW has a rebate forum.

If anyone finds anything
we ask that they create a thread there with the information they have
even if they are no participating in said offer.

If you go through that forum
look for Try Me Frees.
Some have pdf files or printable forms on the manurfacturers website.

If you can couple a TMF with a coupon, it usually is a money maker!

Many times,
large manufacturer's
such as Proctor & Gamble
offer a Mail in Rebate
such that "if you spend $30 in products, they will issue a $10 rebate check"

If you can find the eligible products
on sale
or as an ecb or RR offer
and use coupons
you can turn a little out of pocket
into a check to deposit later

I got a reject card in the mail on Saturday. My advise is to call them. I called yesterday and she looked it up and sure enough they had all the right info but "someone" didn't see it and marked it as not having all the needed info.

Honestly, I really believe that alot of the companies are sending out rejection cards to see if we will follow up or not. In the past year, I have received 4 different rejection letters only to be credited each time after I called.

The Pantene one was for a gift box that had a magazine subscription with it. You could either get the magazine for one year or a rebate. I chose the rebate.

I see on your profile under your name that your location is Oregon. Is that still the case? I think Oregon is a state where you have to buy beer or wine to get most rebates. Don't worry though, there are still lots of try-me-free and other rebates out there.

From December to now, I have submitted over $420 in rebates! I am starting to get the checks rolling in and it is so exciting!! We are using the rebate money to pay off our credit card. Once the card is paid off, the rebate money is supposed to be set aside towards the down payment of a new (to me) car in a year or two. My goal is $5,000 or more for down payment. Hopefully between DH's overtime pay, and my rebating, we will get to our goal before my poor 12 year old car dies on me! Or before we have another baby, because I don't know that I could fit another car seat into my car! December was a great month for rebates, and my first month seriously rebating, so I think I did well!! Can't wait until the rebates pick back up again!

Be sure to keep a copy of all the rebate material you send until you receive your payment. All-in-one printers have made that SO much easier. We don't get all the NBPR offers you get, but I've done rebates for decadees, and have had to send copies of what I submitted more times than I can count.
Last year the company that handled the Nexcare bandages rebate lost all my UPCs from three different varieties and disallowed it! When I called it sounded like a disorganized small office, where it might have been happening frequently. I had to FAX a copy of the material, and they sent me the rebate. Otherwise I would have been out of luck. :mad19:

~ tips that seem to help me ~

#1 pick up those wayward receipts in the parking lot :wink7:
(i've got my son trained to do this for me, as well as change found on the ground) :giggle2:
#2 my older children save their receipts for me to go thru every few months
#3 keep a list of rebate items needed that I refer to when I go thru ads for the week
to find "better deals" for a rebate item needed
#4 i try to "buy" a rebate item each time i go to the store, so a "receipt" isn't "wasted"
#5 keep a tank's worth of gas equal to uncashed rebate checks on hand for those times "in-between-paychecks"

True confession time. I let my family order Pizza Hut last night, because I needed some receipts for Pizza rebates, and I know this Pizza Hut always has receipts laying in the parking lot. DH says I have a problem. What do you all think? If it helps my case, I will be receiving $75 in rebates as a result of this endevour.

Just to add a little "new blood" although not as much. Sent off $46 last week, got another $6 to send off this week! What is my best resource for finding rebates?

How i find my rebates is through Hotcouponworld.

I look through their database and in the forum "Rebates" I check every few days to see if any new ones have been added.

I also look through the trade posts to see what people are offering. I also look to see what they are looking for and if it is valid in my state, if it is not on my list (because sometimes rebates are not posted in either location) though a lot are, i write it on my list.

O.k I didn't know the thread started tracking so from reading posts we post what rebates we sent for with $$ or post as we get the $$ for them?

Sounds like fun either way..

So far in Dec- Jan I sent for $184.48 /rec'd $50.99

Then I have another $45 to mail out I need to get my scanner issue fixed before I mail them out .. I have learned to scan my images before mailing as they come in handy when the company tried to say I didn't purchase this or that..

So total rebates for me right now if I can get this scanner fixed this am is
$184.48 ( already sent)
+ 45.00 ( to send out today)
---------
$229.48 so far and a few stragglers rebates to finish and a couple more forms to come in the mail so the list should continue to grow... I love rebates just wish the forms were easier to come across..
