That's beautiful! I can't knit, but I've been crocheting since I was 9 (my mom taught me.)

That's a very pretty sweater! I love it!

I can knit, but not very well or fast. I crochet better. I quit doing both really though, because the price of yarn drives me up the walls. It can cost like $50 or $100 just for the yarn for a nice sweater, I'm just not going to do that. I can't stand the cheap acrylic stuff, either. Plus, I realized some time ago that with knitting & crocheting clothes, all I was doing was creating my own fabric. I thought it was much better to just buy fabric & sew my clothes, if I wanted, and buy a sweater, if I wanted a sweater.

I do like to crochet though, I have a standing project of a thread-crochet bedspread. I do little squares, whenever I have to sit & wait for long periods of time. Like when I travel, but that kind of time is extremely seldom.

I've found fairly good deals on yarn/kits/needles on Ebay, especially in the summer when no one wants to think about knitting with wool.
There's also a site where you can order "seconds" of acrylic.
http://martinsyarns.homestead.com/index.html haven't bought from them myself, but know of others who have and they were pleased.

Gorgeous sweater. I haven't attempted a sweater yet.

I just finished the Everlasting Bagstopper which was a free pattern from knitty.com.

Oh how I miss the days when I could knit and crochet to my heart's content!

What happened? I had kids!

I haven't picked up needles and yarn in about 7 years. I have quite the stash of yarn though!

Must get back to it once DS is in school and the weather is cooler.

anyone know where I can find a pattern for a ear-flap hat for babies which doesnt require knitting the ear flaps separately and then grafting them to the hat itself, I have searched around a couple times but come up with nothing..... I really want(need) to knit one up, but dont have the time to do the trial and error thing ;) I dont care if its top down or bottom up...but I would prefer knit in the round/ magic looped.....as long as I don't have to graft. much easier for me to just knit it straight through. thanks and will rep for any help finding this!

knittinghelp/com is really great. the videos there helped me tremendously. It took me about a week of practice before I started my first project ("longies"/pants for my baby girl) and I finished them in a week and if I do say so myself I think they turned out really great! also if you search on youtube tere are videos there.

What you can do is pick up the stitches from the edge of the hat and there should be no grafting. If you need more detailed instructions, please let me know and I will quickly work you up a pattern.

I knit and crochet. I have been crocheting for longer, but for the past few years I spend more time on my knitting projects.

Lately I have been knitting a lot of socks. A while ago Michael's had Paton's Kroy sock yarn on sale for $2.49/50 gm ball, it is usually $5.99/each at our stores around here, so I stocked up. This is my favorite sock yarn for kids. (6 year olds just don't appreciate fancy sock yarn, IMO.)

Me too. That was sure a great deal on that yarn. I'm working with the Burnished Sierra Stripes colorway (brown/orange/black). I'm liking how the stripes are working out.

HI all,

I'm a knitter, spinner, dyer and sometimes crocheter . . . basically, if it involves yarn or fiber I'm there ;)

I've been at it for about 10 years now, though I've slowed considerably since the kids came into the picture . . . hope to be doing more again as the little one gets a little bigger.

My current project is using a knitting machine to make baby blanket centers and then adding a crochet edging to them . . . I'm way, way behind on baby gifts and this seemed like the best/most likely way to catch up again. Using the machine, I was able to do 5 blankets worth in just a few days! I "chain" knit them as one big long piece and now have to seperate and cast off before working the edgings. Still way faster than doing it all by hand ;)

I'm also on ravelry as Martheme so if your on there, drop me a line ;)

I took some knitting to our county fair. It was my first time out, and I entered 2 items.

My Fish Hat got 2nd in the hat class, and my lace shawl got an honorable mention in shawls & stoles. Not bad for my first try.

ok i gave up trying big things on the kitting looms... too cumbersome for me... but now a friend of mine loaned me a brother home knitting machine... i tried a scarf for first project...i love the pattern it made using a variegated blue yarn... but i guess i had the tension too tight it rolled up into a log and could not get it to go flat... so i unraveled it and going to try it again... it works up in no time at all... but like the looms you have to make the cables and other patterns by moving each stitch by hand... so i guess i am just lazy heheheheh and frugal... but i am having fun playing with it... has any one used a knitting machine???? i fall back to my old faithful... crochet..i can watch tv and go on for hours... and have an afghan in a couple of weeks... but i do not do intricate patterns.. i do double crochet.. ripple, shell, and a few other patterns that i have made a bunch of so its a no brainer to do... (lazy again!) just posting today to see if any one likes the knitting machines... now things should have slowed down a bit and folks can get to doing some relaxing things....
