This is the first time I've run into a problem with getting overage at my commissary. They told me I couldn't use the $1 All S&M coupons on the .49 trial sizes. I also had $2 coupons for $1.84 KY, $.50 coupons for .45 Murray cookies, $2 meat winetags for $1.69 pkgs of meat, and .75 coupons for .59 Vlasic and they didn't say anything about those. I was afraid to bring the other things to their attention. LOL.

The cashier questioned the customer service supervisor, who came over and told me no. I tried to explain that the coupon did not exclude trial sizes, etc. Then a visibly upset/rude "second in charge manager" (or that's what she called herself) came over to me and got increasingly agitated when I asked to see the written coupon policy. :rolleyes24:

Anyway, I want to contact someone above HER, but I don't know who. She told me she asked HER boss (the manager of the store, I guess) and he said I could only get .49 off the coupon. :rolleyes24: So I guess I need to go one step above him.....

Thanks all!

ETA: After emailing DeCA, I received an email confirming that we ARE to get overage. I also got an apology email from the store manager.

nevermind....I found the contact link. I didn't realize the official DeCA website was actually the commissaries.com.

Thank you for accessing the DeCA Website to address your question.

Earlier this year DeCA was in the process of revising the coupon redemption policy due to the many fraudulent incidents that had occurred at many store locations. In the process, stores were instructed at time to discontinue providing full face value if coupons exceeded the total value of the item. However since that time, DeCA has rescinded that policy and stores should give customers the full face value of the coupon.

Ms. Twinning

Sorry for not getting back to you any sooner...here is your answer?

Ms. Cindy Robinson wrote:
With the recent release of DeCA Directive 40-6, the policy letter from
February has been rescinded. All coupons will now be accepted at their
face value. The only exception is if the coupon has an "up to" value
and there is a space for the cashier to enter the selling price. In
this situation the cashier will enter the selling price. Please ensure
this change is provided to all of your cashiers.
This does not change the policy on internet coupons for free items.

Thank you so much for clearing this up for me, I have a really small commissary here and the "heads" hate my coupon use and to this day have been denying my overage.

Could someone please Pm or e-mail me the overage policy. I had a little run in today where they would only take $2 not $3 with the clorox coupon and $1.02 not $1.50 with the purell. I told them they get reimbursed the full amount and they said not if we cross it out, which they than did. I said next time I shop I will have the letter proving I get the overage. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same problem today w/ mulitple coupons where face value exceeded the price. They pulled out the old policy at customer service for me to see. I had to tell them about the policy changing and insist that they call DECA for confirmation. It took forever, but I finally got my overage. If someone has a copy of the policy, could you pm me as well - don't want to be standing around forever again and I have tons of the $1.50/1 purell to use up.

ETA: Nevermind - I read the posts again and saw the part about valid coupons being entered at face value - took it more to mean if they automatically scan at something different, but would apply to this as well. Thanks!

Thanks. I actually read through the info in that link yesterday and didn't see anything specifically stating overage being allowed. Am I missing it?

It's totally nuts since the policy change of last Feb was recinded last June, but I ran across a cashier and a front end manager yesterday who told me they can't allow overage anymore. Thanks to reading this site I knew they were wrong unless there had been a new policy issued within the last week, so I asked to see the "new policy".

The front end manager went online and started reading and then tried telling me it was changed "last year sometime". I told her to check the most current policies because I was certain that had been recinded... and I sat down and waited right by her computer screen. Her face grew beet red as she got to the policy that recinded the "no overage" change and she muttered about "having missed that".....

What should have been a simple trip took 2 hours before it was all over, but I had her come with me while we personally informed the cashier that gave me the problem about the correct policy.... and then I did another transaction to get the overage I should have received when I initially checked out. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Now, I've copied the directive number & will have it with me :)
