:wavehi: Hello & Welcome to HCW. I will use this thread to update the general membership on any new additions & to also give you a place for you to post requests to be considered.

Also, I have noticed that a lot of the smilies are not showing up in your posts. To insure they all post correctly, make sure you use a space between each one.

Starting in post #2 you will find How To User Guides, rules & some basic guidelines in regards to: Avatars, Posting Icons, Profile Pictures, Smilies & other types of graphics.

Rules Concerning Graphics

Avatars & Smilies are not only fun but can also be an extention of an individuals personality. For your convenience we strive to provide a variety of both. HCW has an extensive collection of smilies so we ask that only HCW provided smilies be used within your posts.

We do however realize that members from time to time may wish to use certain graphics of their own such as Avatars, Welcome Messages & Birthday Greetings which is fine. We do insist that the graphics used be respectful of other members. We have members who suffer from various degrees of migraine headaches & also those who suffer from seizures. So please note that fast flashing, fast moving, fast blinking or glitter graphics can not be used out of courtesy to our members. If you wish to use these types of graphics please limit them to your profile page as your profile page can be avoided where as your avatar appears with each post that you make.

If we notice avatars like those mentioned above you will be asked to change your avatar or it will be deleted. If welcome messages, birthday greetings, etc. are used like those mentioned above they will be deleted without notice.


Any other type graphic including but not limited to Welcome Messages, Birthday Greetings, etc. that you may use that is not HCW provided must be hosted on a site such as Photo Bucket, Tiny Pics or the like.
DO NOT Copy & Past graphics from other sites as it steals their bandwidth & links to or shows the link to the site it was taken from.
Bear in mind that some graphics carry spam, virus, tracking & spy ware.
All non HCW provided graphics must be family friendly
If you are unsure if your graphic meets any of these guidelines please feel free to PM me & I'll be happy to take a look at what you wish to use.

User Guide & Basic Info


Avatars

Avatars are small graphical images that you may choose in your profile. They are displayed under your username in all posts that you make. You can select the image that best describes yourself from your profile options.

The administration has provided a set of avatars for members use or you may also upload your own avatar. You must have a post count of 1 in order to select or upload an avatar.

NOTE #1: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 31.0 KB (whichever is smaller).
NOTE #2: Tyes of images that can be used: gif, jpeg, jpg, png, bmp


Choosing an Administrative provided Avatar

(1). Go to your User CP located at the top left of any page under the HCW Logo.

(2). Under Settings & Options select Edit Avatar.

(3). In the drop down menu where it says Avatar Category choose the category you wish to view.

(4). After viewing all the pages of available Avatars click on the circle of the one you like the best then go to the bottom of the page & choose Save Changes.

Uploading your own custom Avatar

(1). Go to your User CP located at the top left of any page under the HCW Logo.

(2). Select Settings & Options select Edit Avatar

(3). Go down the page until you see Custom Avatar. Click on the circle next to Use Custom Avatar.

Here you will find 2 options:



Option #1: Entering the URL of an Image from another Website

Find a Free For Use site that offers Avatars
Double click on the Avatar that you wish to use & it should open in a new window
Once the window opens go to the URL address; right click & choose copy
Go to the Option #1 area in your User CP. NOTE: before placing the URL of the image you wish to use delete the http: info that is already in the Option #1 space. Right click & select paste.
Go to the bottom & select Save Changes

Option #2: Upload Image From Your Computer

For this option you will have to have a place on your computer where you save files. I created a folder in My Documents called Debs Pics
Find a Free For Use site that offers Avatars
At some sites you will have to double click on the Avatar that you wish to use for it to open in a new window & at some sites that is not necessary. Either way you will have to right click & choose Save Picture As.
A new window will pop up. Choose the location where you created a folder to save / store your pics & save it to that folder
Go to the Option #2 area in your User CP
Click the Browse button & look for the folder you created. Open the folder & double click on the Avatar you wish to use.
Go to the bottom of the page & click Save Changes

POSTING ICONS

Post icons allow you to specify a small graphic icon to accompany your posting, which is used to convey the emotion or content of a post at a glance.

How to choose a Post / Posting Icon

There are 2 ways to add a Post Icon:


Option #1: Adding a post icon to your post in an existing thread

When you go to reply to an existing thread at the bottom of the window where you type your message you have 2 options: Post Quick Reply & Go Advanced.
Select Go Advanced

The bottom of your screen will expand & you will see various graphics to choose from to add to accompany your post.
Click the little circle beside the graphic ( Posting Icon ) you wish to use
When you are done typing your message; click Submit Reply located just below the Posting Icons.

Option #2: Adding a Post Icon when creating a new thread

Click New Topic
A window will pop up where you will create a title & type your post
At the bottom of the screen you will see various graphics to choose from to add to accompany your post.
Click the little circle beside the graphic you wish to use
When you are done typing your message click Save Changes

PROFILE PICTURES

Profile Pictures are actually the same thing as an Avatar which is a small graphical image that you may add to your profile page. To view your Profile Page at any time all you have to do is click on your User Name & choose View Public Profile. You may also view other members Profile Pages in the same manner.

NOTE #1: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 64.0 KB (whichever is smaller).
NOTE #2: Tyes of images that can be used: gif, jpeg, jpg, png, bmp


Uploading your own custom Profile Picture

Once again the steps are similar to that of the Avatar. Go to your User CP ( located at the top left of any page under the HCW Logo ). Under Your Profile select Edit Profile Picture. A new window will pop up. Here you will find 2 options:

I lile moons and stars if that might be a possible option...also would it be possible to add a Natl Guard option to the military group? I know it is part of the Army, but it is not regular Army unless they are on Active duty orders. Thanks!!!

I have looked high & low & can not find the National Guard symbols like the other Military branches. If you know a place I can get them LMK & I will work with them to see what I can do.

When editing your post or signature click on the (More) link in the smilie box...which is a little hard to see the link. But here is a picture to show you where to find it:

Hi, 1st you need to upload the pic to a pic hosting site such as Photo Bucket. Once it is uploaded it will create a link that you use to post here. There will be several links to use; I use the IMG CODE link. If you need help just PM me I will be more than happy to help.

When I first join up I had an avatar and it show up but now on the 2nd day yesterday it didn't.

So I when to see if it was still there and it was. I tried to change it but now it won't reset or give me an option to do anything.

Thread Display Options ( approx. 1/2 way down page ) ~ Visible Post Elements ~ Choose the ones below that you wish to not show up and remove the check.


You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts.

Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)

Hi, here are the size requirements for avatars:

The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 31.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

I store all my graphics on my hard drive in the folder called "My Documents". If you click on the pic you can go to edit & resize from there. I'm not familiar with Kodak Easyshare so I can't guide you through the steps.

If you like you can PM or email me the pic & I can resize for you. LMK by way of PM if you decide to email so I will remember to check for it.

OK...I finally did this today. And, even though it was only an hour or so ago, I might not be remembering it correctly. After I hit browse, and it brought up a list of my downloaded stuff, I double-clicked on the one I wanted. That put the URL in the box. Then, I just clicked Save Changes.

Valid file image & size are 2 different things. Images can be in the form of a gif, jpeg, jpg, etc. Do you happen to know which format your pic is in? Also if you continue to have problems feel free to send me the link to the pic & I will be happy to see what I can do to help.

I looked in the sticky, but I could not find out anything about how you get the smiley in your signature? I looked on the web, found a cute smiley, but cannot figure out to translate the computer language to the actual image!! All I found in the stickies and info was about avatars. So, can someone help me? Where do you find the smilies that you put in your signature? How do you get it to look like an image and not mumbo-jumbo computer language??? TIA!!!!!

Go to the user CP & click on edit signature. On your right are the smilies allowed in your sig. line, all you have to do is click on the one you want to use. If you look at the click on the word "More" on the bottom left under the "Tagged" smilie a bunch more will pop up that you can use.

Please Note: Capability to upload graphics to sig. line is not activated at HCW. Only the graphics ( smilies ) to the right of your screen & those by clicking on the [More (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=1083783#)] link are allowed.

Go down to Settings & Options on the left hand side of the Control Panel. Then go to Edit Avatar & click. A new window will pop up & you will see a drop down menu that says Avatar Category , click on the little down arrow next to the word go & select the category ( Every Day, Seasonal & Holidays ) that you would like to choose from. There is a little circle below each pic, click the circle under the pic you want to use & then at the bottom of the page click Save Changes. Hope this helps. Since I am new and finding my way around I did add my own graphic for my avatar. I am an Angel collector and anything with Angels is what I try to have. I would like to be able to put some smilies and such into my post but don't know where everyone is getting them. Can you put me in the right direction? Thank you.

Look down below this post, you will see a box w/ posting rules. In the 2nd half of the box, you will see Smilies On, in the 2nd spot. Click on it; it will open them up.

From what I can see this is what you do to delete an album:

Open your profile
In the albums sections click - all albums
open the album you want to delete
On the Top right you will see "edit Album" and "edit pictures"
click "edit album"
On the next screen at the top will be an option to delete it

No it doesnt work, when I click on pics and album it takes to the page with both albums. But I can only open the album with the cat pic on it and alter it the other one just refreshes the page.

I'm guessing you are referring to your Avatar pic. Avatar & Profile pics should show immediately.

I noticed you have a Profile pic up but nothing is showing for your avatar. To add an Avatar go to "User CP" found at the top left of any screen under the HCW logo. Once in the User CP go to "Settings & Options" & choose "Edit Avatar". Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 31.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

You may click on the drop down window & choose a preloaded avatar or go down a little further until you see the "browse button" & upload one that is saved on your computer.

I have a question...in some posts I see several smilies in what I think are the signature line (see them on every post), but When I change mine (as I sometimes do since you have so many great ones to pick from- Thank you!!) I always get a little note that no more than a certin number allowed...how does that work?

The sig lines where you see more than a few smilies belong to mods, super mods & admin. Since we are staff members we have more space & # of smilies allowed to us. Not only do we have to have room for board business in our sig lines we also need room for our personal info. Just one of the perks as a staff member.

Hi,

Yes it is called an Avatar. My guess is that your "Options" my need to be changed.

Here are directions on how to do that:

Click on "User CP" which can be found at the left of any screen under the HCW Logo.
Then under "Settings & Options" click on "Edit Options"
A new window will pop up. Go down to the "Heading" that says "Thread Display Options". Make sure under "Visible Post Elements" you have all 3 options checked.

Well, if you want to you can turn off people's signatures and avatars by default (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions) so they don't take a while to load, or reduce the number of posts so it takes less time. But I know how it is. I'll never forget when I was browsing with 14k speed years ago. Now it's so much worse with the wide adoption of AJAX (that's what makes pages be able to respond to you without having to reload the page, like when you are filling out a form and it tells you your password isn't long enough before you've even submitted it) and Flash...
If you don't have a browser that allows you to turn off images and flash, it might be worth the dl time to get one for sites that you just want to see the content already (like search engines or news or emails). But I know it's fun to see people's images on here... :smile:

Yes, there are plans to do a drop down window where you can access each category separately instead of all of them loading at once. We are on the waiting list, but, other things are going on behind the scenes that take priority so we have to wait our turn.

Avatars & Smilies are not only fun but can also be an extention of an individuals personality. For your convenience we strive to provide a variety of both for your use.

We do however realize that members from time to time may wish to use certain graphics of their own such as avatars, welcome messages & birthday greetings which is fine. We do however insist that the graphics used be respectful of other members. We have members who suffer from various degrees of migraine headaches & also those who suffer from seizures. So please note that fast flashing, fast moving, fast blinking or glitter graphics can not be used out of courtesy to our members. If we notice avatars like those mentioned above you will be asked to change your avatar or it will be deleted. If welcome messages, birthday greetings, etc. are used like those mentioned above they will be deleted without notice.

On the top left corner of your screen, you'll see "user cp" (user contol panel). Click that.

After you click that, on the left of your screen you should see a long orange column titled "Your control panel". Scroll down until you see "Edit Avatar". Click that.

Next, you'll have a big gray box on your screen titled "Edit avatar". Go to "pre-defined default", then "avatar catagory". Pick a catagory and push "go".

Not showing up for me either. Not sure if you were trying to use one of the stock ones or a custom one but i have had times where I tried to download one from my computer and it didn't work. Usually you'd get an error message. But when your computer downloads it, it should change right there on the "change avatar" page so you would know if it works. Sorry I can't be of more help
