View Full Version : What is the coupon policy!?!?

I decided to call corporate and I was told that each store can set their own coupon policy. No store actually has a coupon policy though, set in stone, or written on paper.

I explained the issues I had with getting overage during one visit, and then being told it's not allowed the next visit. Only to end up getting overage in the end (after buying 3 items per coupon, instead of the required 1 item needed to use the coupon), even though it was only pennies.

Justin (the person trying to solve my problem) told me that it's common sense that when you have a coupon for $1 off any one bag/box dog treats and they are only $0.89, then you'd have to buy two bags/boxes of dog treats in order to use the coupon. It's common sense he says!

As if my day isn't craptastic already, he has to make it worse by telling me I have no common sense on using coupons.

Sounds like Justin is an idiot! I feel your pain -- I had a big blow-out with Target this week about coupons. I think now that more and more people are using coupons (and some don't know how - like Justin!) the stores are just getting so picky! I used the Milk Bone Essentials coupons this week at my local Petsmart and got the penny overage. I think the cashier is the one who makes the call on coupons. You get a good cashier and you have no problems. :shrug7: :shrug7:

I was told by corporate that Petsmart GIVES the overage on coupons but each store has the right to use their own discretion. So it looks like it's a "YMMV" I never have a problem and if they do give me drama I simply tell them what THEIR policy is (that they give the overage)

I buy items cheap or close as I can get because I donate most to animal shelter. My Petsmart loves our coupons takes competing? pet stores coupons and helps me find the product to go with my coupon.Guess it helps we feed 4 dogs so they kinda know me.Even tho Science diet has sent many many coupons will have to stop feeding them as it has way too much corn.Corn is listed as first ingredient. Our dogs just won't eat it anymore.Any one else have this problem with Science Diet?No reply when I ask about it from Science Diet

I've had numerous problems with Petsmart regarding coupons too. I just moved, hopefully the new location will be MUCH better. All I had been trying to do before was use a $X off $Y that was emailed to my perks # along with one manufacturer coupon. My dogs eat expensive food because they need to, I wasn't doing anything wrong and was actually told that I had been stealing from them for over two years. I was like hmm that's funny because I haven't even had a pet for that long. Corporate refused to take any of my calls and the dispatch people said the same it depends on the manager on duty.

I was told yesterday that they no longer accept competitor's coupons by the mgr.

So when I checked out, they asked if I found everything ok. I said "yes, but this will be my last trip here because you don't accept competitor's coupons, and PetCo will price match your ad." Another mgr went to first mgr and suddenly they decided to do it "this time".

When did they stop taking PetCo coupons? Bad move on their part, as PetCo will take PetSmart coupons and price match as well.

I've had lots of problems using coupons at PetSmart. They will no longer take multiple coupons on one order for different products. So if I have a $10 off of $30 purchase and a coupon off of a specific item they will only allow me to use one. The other day the manager actually told me I was riduculous using coupons. :sad3: I have been loyal to PetSmart for years, but may have to check out the prices at PetCo.

I also had the cashier tell me that the coupon says "one per purchase", so I could only use one coupon on my whole order. When I told her, "that's fine, I have NO problem checking out ONE bag of food at a time", she decided that she could take one per bag.

Yeah, I'm going back to PetCo!! They're coupon friendly and will price match.

Has anyone else been using the $10 off coupon that came in the Science Diet bags of food a while ago? It says $10 off your next purchase at PetSmart, but has a Science Diet logo. I've been using them all month on my purchases and not necessarily on Science Diet products with no problem. Tonight they decided not to accept them so I decided not to make my purchase. When I was walking away however I overheard the cashier and manager make a comment about it was just that girl with all the coupons and how they wish I wouldn't come back in their store! Is is really that terrible to use coupons??!!

Well, to judgmental lazy fools making minimum wage:dontknow1: it is but to those of us who find it down right silly to pay full price when we don't have to and use our time and talents to get things for less it's Uber-Smart! :BigHand:

I'd walked back, gotten both names, called corporate from the store, and asked them to repeat their comments and explain why they won't accept the coupon to corp.

Then again, I'm cranky like that.

Oh my gosh, you should have walked back to them and told them that their wish was about to come true, but that their corporate office would know why you and a bunch of your friends would no longer be shopping at their store. Manufacturers don't print coupons just to kill a few trees. They want you to use them. It's not terrible.

I make minimum wage as a cashier at CVS and LOVE to check out the "coupon queens" because I can learn from them how to make my dollar worth more. I was actually referred to this site by one of you wonder women a couple years ago. I have a coupon binder now and visit this site on a daily basis. I would be eating PB&J every night if I didn't have you ladies come to my store.

HOLY MOLY!!! I am sorry to hear that you all are having such problems. I have worked for Petsmart for 2 years and have never heard of the problems you all are having. WE ALWAYS ALWAYS take competitor coupons without question and you can use as many coupons as your purchase allows. I say move to Florida and you wont have any problems LOL

So, i talked to my store manager at Petsmart and she said they wont honor a competitor coupon if that store isnt in your area. We wont accept Petco coupons at our store because there isnt a Petco in our area. Hope that helps

If these are the same type of coupon that pops into the Purina Beneful (except theirs is only $5... jealous!) from time to time, then I believe it can only be used on that particular brand's product. For example, the ones that come in the Beneful bags are for $5 off your next Purina PetSmart puchase, meaning you have to buy something Purina related if you want the discount. Both PetSmart stores in my area follow this rule, so I'm guessing that may be what happened to you?:dontknow1: If all else fails, buy that name brand's treat or canned food that is cheap and use the overage on whatever else you planned on buying.
