DH likes the Arizona Iced tea a lot, but the Arizona Iced tea is hardly on sale here. Does anyone have a good iced tea recipe? DH likes it sweetened. Should I put the sugar in when brewing or he can add what he likes after it chills? Do I have to use Corn Syrup or something?

Thanks,

I take a gallon pitcher, add 1 cup sugar (or equivlent in equal if you are cutting out sugar) and fill the pitcher up with hot tap water, toss in 10 Lipton teabags stir it up to distribute the sugar, pop the lid on and throw it in my fridge. When it is cold it is ready to drink.

For a faster version do half water, let it sit on the counter to brew for about 1/2 hour then fill pitcher rest of the way with ice cubes.

Polly G -- my pitchers are 2 qt size. Here's how I make Southern sweet tea: Boil 4 C of water in the microwave, or on the stove top. Remove from micro or stove, and then put in 2 family-sized tea bags, or the equivalent of the small ones if that's all you have. Let steep for about 1/2 hour. Remove the tea bags, then put in 1 C of sugar. The water is still warm enough to dissolve the sugar, but cooled enough to not be bitter. Let cool on the stove top for another hour or so. Then pour into your pitcher, adding another 4 C of water. Put in fridge -- it's the best the next day, with no bitter taste at all.

10 tea bags!!! Queen, when I use the coffee pot to make tea I can get a gallon with 3 tea bags...it brews plenty strong. Of course if you get great deals on tea bags I suppose it doesn't matter but if you are looking to conserve them you might try the coffee pot or using hotter water.

I put my sugar in when the tea is hot, then add cold water or ice if I want it cooled fast. You can use a variety of sweeteners...add honey or even a can of frozen lemonade....they have raspberry lemonades and such for a fruity flavor.

I sometimes make iced tea with a flavored water, or replace one of the regular tea bags with a flavored one for a little added interest.

I am the only one here who drinks tea so I can do what I like with it. I have at least 12 varieties of tea I like to make. While I do use a sweetener, I don't make it too sweet...not more than 1/2 C. for a gallon. Any more than that and my lips pucker up.

Our sweet tea with lemon recipe:

7 tea bags
1 1/2 c. sugar
real lemon lemon juice

Take a small saucepan and fill it with water (I think it's about 2 cups). Add your tea bags. Bring to a boil. Let it boil for about two minutes.

In a 1 gallon pitcher:
Add your sugar. Then take your lemon juice and pour it over your sugar. You only need enough to cover the sugar. I give mine a swirl to incorporate the sugar and lemon.

Take your saucepan and pour your tea into your pitcher. You will need a slotted spoon so that the tea bags don't fall into your pitcher. Stir well. Then fill your saucepan with cold water again and pour into your pitcher. Keep repeating until the water in the saucepan turns clear. In other words, you aren't getting anymore tea. Then fill your pitcher the rest of the way with tap water. Stir and allow to chill if you can stand the wait. Usually we just put some ice in a glass and enjoy. Yum!

I'm not sure of my exact measurements, but I LOVE the Lipton (I think) no brew bags. I bought tons of them a couple years ago to get FREE Leap Pad learning systems and fell in love with the product. I used 3 of those bags for a 3 quart container and added only about a cup of sugar (you can add more to your liking...I don't make mine super sweet b/c I don't need the extra sugar). I put the sugar in the container and added hot, hot tap water up to 1/2 of the container. Stirred it up to melt the sugar then added cold water to the top. Placed the tea bags into the container and then in 15 minutes had great tea!!

Since running out of those tea bags I use gallon size regular brew tea bags for the same 3 qt container. I heat about 1 and 1/2 qts of water in the microwave for 5 minutes. Add 1 tea bag to the hot water and let it sit about 15 minutes. I still melt the sugar the same way with the hot tap water, add the "brewed" 1 and 1/2 qts and cold water to fill the container.

I drink atleast 3 quarts of tea every day. It's sad but my 2 year old daughter calls every thing I drink "tea" b/c she is soo used to me only drinking tea!!

We use 3-4 teabags and brew just under a gallon at a time. I always mix different flavors of tea and sometimes put sliced ginger in the water while it boils to add a little bit of extra flavor.

I usually use one flavored bag- sometimes more. We don't usually sweeten the tea either, but if we do it's a bit of honey or a couple of tablespoons of sugar for the whole gallon (Added while water is hot) One of my favorite types of tea is made with 2 earl grey bags and one bag of constant comment. It has a nice light orange flavor. You can do the same thing with a mint bag, or one of the multi-flavored herbal tazo teas. If you just want a more subtle flavor just use one flavored and the rest regular tea.

We like 3 Luzianne + 1 Bigelow Cinnamon Stick regular size tea bags +1 cup sugar per 2 quarts. You can substitute any flavored tea bag. Yummy!!

Southern Sweet Iced Tea

6 regular tea bags
1/8 teaspoon baking soda (cuts the bitterness & keeps the tea clear)
2 cups boiling water
1 1/2-2 cups sugar (I used 1/2 C sugar and it was plenty sweet)
6 cups cold water

In a large glass measuring cup, place the tea bags and add the baking soda.

Pour the boiling water over the tea bags.

Cover and steep for 15 minutes.

Take out the tea bags and do not squeeze them.

Pour the tea mixture into a 2-quart pitcher; add the sugar.

Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Add in the cold water.

Let cool; chill in the refrigerator and serve over ice.

This recipe is awesome!
