so I have tons of stuff the kids have outgrown and I don't want to just give it away. I have only bought stuff on ebay and never sold. Is it hard to do? Should I start with smaller auctions first? Should I just scrap that idea and auction stuff here? I don't like doing garage sales so that is not really an option either.

IMO, it's a lot of work to sell. I also buy a lot off of Ebay, but never seem to do well when selling.
If you do sell, I would try doing lots (large groups) of clothing as it makes it more enticing to the buyer so the s/h is worth it.

Clothes are a hard sell sometimes. They sell best in lots of several complete outfits. High end brand names are more desirable-- if you mix a couple of no name items in with it, that's OK.
I don't know what age your kids are, but things like Gap, Gymboree, and Osh Kosh sell better than Carter's.

I used to sell stuff on there. Right now I'm unloading a lot of my wedding decor. I agree with people, high-end clothes or large lots of clothes sell better than individual items. As long as you have a digital camera to take pictures of your stuff with, you should be good to go. GL!

I agree with MrsPinecone. Unless you have name brand clothing in very good condition, I don't think it will sell well. My sister sells used Gymboree clothing that her daughter outgrows or that she gets a deal on. She does well but she doesn't sell a lot at a time. She will have maybe 8 auctions at a time and then list more when those auctions end. She's been doing it for years now.
I used to sell on ebay and it really depends on what you are selling. The fees are so high now and not to mention Paypal fees being outrageous. It's really hard to make a profit unless you have a good product that you can get cheap.
Don't they have mommy web sites that you can do auctions on for free?
Maybe someone knows of one for you to try.

I know disney stuff does well as far as videos go. Why don't you go to ebay and search the stuff you have and click completed items to see what they sold for in the last 30 days.

This what I would do. Go to Ebay and put in the item you want to sell. When it comes up scroll down and on the left hand side it will say completed listings. Check the box and then click show items. It will them show you all the listing for that item that have been sold or unsold and what they sold for. That's the best way to see if what to charge and what is selling. HTH

check out your local craigslist, there's no fees to advertise and you find the buyers from your area. I've found its much easier to sell there than ebay minus the exhorbitant fees!
another option is start a local swap/barter yahoo group and you will be amazed that stuff that couponers stockpile are a big hit to most people and they don't mind paying full (clearance) price. for FAC items, I pass them on to the buyers at full clearance price and they are even grateful for getting a bargain with no add'l tax.
