Well reporting in the middle of a blizzard again...just checking have I mentioned I hate winter! The yard that was visible yesterday is fully covered. Travel is not advised across the state(did I mention I really NEEDED to go to town today), they are closing the interstate, DS got out early today and school is up in the air for tomorrow. Glad I got to enjoy the 40's the other day because it is reading under 20 and the wind gust will knock you on your butt.

Had a great supper and cake at mom and dad's last night. Took mom her cheese and Electrasol so I got $6 back. Stopped at Hyvee and oop was $40.19. 5 bags of dog/cat food, 12 cans Campbells Chunky soup, 2 bags chicken breast, loaf of bread and a rain check for milk.

CVS 1.05
CVS .18
I haven't been to the grocery store since the middle of last week, and that was just for a couple things. I am trying to get thru this week without going. Lunches for work may need to get a little creative and I'm almost out of bread, but, it's just me, so, I'll deal.

Spent today at home so no OOP. I did finally get my Promo from Copenhagen with a cap, free can of snuff, and a $10 Bass Pro Shop gift card. I'm thinking birthday gift for my brother as he loves all those things.

I worked on getting the garage ready for my garage sale the first weekend of February, and organizing the stockpile table out there so it's all ready for sale. Had to make more room for the stuff I still have to get this week!

Then I moved a wire rack from the garage to the living room to put expired/close dates/use it up items on so I can "shop" there first. I'm getting to have entirely to many pantries - I have the kitchen one {open items}, the wire rack of close dates, the bottom of the china cabinet {canned veggies}, the coat closet {baking items in bulk}, 2 hall pantries {canned goods & boxed goods/pasta}, and the one in my office {cereal, crackers, etc}. Oh and 18cuft {Veggies}, 21cuft {Bread, TV dinners, etc}, and 28cuft {Meat} freezers that are all full.

you must get your exercise just gathering everything for dinner! Dh would freak if I did that- he got worked up when the TP stockpile invaded other closets. I've been lookin at the wire racks- how do you like yours? (in need of a bit more shelf space) Sure wish it was warm enough to have a stockpile sale round these parts- I have boxes just waiting for that.

Seems that way doesnt it! LOL That is too funny.

My sons college seems to keep him at home more during the day than last semester so I think thats where it goes!

Where I do get my milk there is a frequent flyer program with every 10 half gallons you get a free half gallon so I try to always get it there. Also, skim is the most expensive. I could get 1% at $2.49 but I look at the health end.

Not really - it's not a very big house {1500sqft}, and they are all within a few steps of one another. The freezers are in the garage attached to the kitchen, so just a few more steps there.

I LOVE my wire rack! But I will warn you - buy the commercial grade if possible. I had two, and the regular one couldn't keep up with me and bent when I loaded it really heavy. The commercial one I've had for 7 years now and has been used for everything under the sun, including storing books for my former book selling business. It holds a lot of weight without any issues at all!

I put some chicken in the crockpot this morning. If the power goes out again like it did last friday I may sell my crockpot and buy a new one that's not digital. Can you tell I'm still a little bitter about the ruined roast from last Friday.

I just bought 3 new crock pots(all different sizes) from WM and none were digital. Thanks to this post, I won't be dealing with that headache.

I made chicken stock in my old crock pot(still like new) last week. I strained the stock and put in containers to be used on the weekend. Then, I washed out the removable liner. As I was finishing drying the darn thing, I dropped it on the tiled kitchen floor. It shattered into a ton of pieces. Lucky for me, there is a throw rug in front of the sink. It didn't crack the tile. What should have been very cheap stock, cost me a crock pot. I was so glad that it happened after cleaning.

We are having friends and family over for the Super Bowl. I was only planning on purchasing 1 crock pot, until the above incident.

Anyway, it could have been worse. I am very thankful for the "no cracked tile".

Does anyone know if you can buy replacement inserts?

DS is home from school again, last night the news said the kids will probably get out around the 21st of June~ this is going to start interrupting scout camp, little league and swimming lessons. Nothing good in the mail, even this weeks ads aren't good. Hy-vee hot deals are really not so hot. I think we are going to try to go to town today but I have to re-figure how to use some of the q's I needed to use yesterday but I really have to get to the DOT.

ok so found my receipts to catch up on-$44.78 from previous shopping, and today $16.44 so grand total this month is= $396.42.
I went over budget but did get some good items stocked up I have at least 4 months of laundry products (just need bleach but one bottle will do for a long time),I got some ground beef and made 4 meatloaves for the freezer, spaghetti noodles for 4 months and some other meat items for freezer. My vacation fund is at $225 and my one "friend" who thinks I am nuts for doing my savings/coupon thing doesn't think I can get to 2k by the end of March in cash to take with us-sounds like a challenge to me!!! SO lets hope for February on budget.

I went to the store hungry! So now I am REALLY Purple

Safeway: OOP 25.08 I was hungry and DS2 was being a terror child so I even forgot to use my 2 $10 Giftcards. :shrug7:So new total is 234.56

I think February will be better. DH will be out of town for 7days and it's a shorter month. I seem to have a more comfortable budget of $250 per month but I am determined to get that down to $200 one of these months! Boy do I need some help! :rolleyes24:

Side note: DH after looking for bacon bits in the fridge which we didn't have any (they sit there forever) sighs and says.......I miss Costco. :hysterical: I miss having everything in the house we use without having to think about it too but I don't miss the $100+ a week Costco runs!!!! I would much rather have to work a little to get everything we need then to have double the out of pocket each month. Plus we throw away a lot less now than we used to even with my stockpiling. :wink7:

Ok, ok, I can tell now. I went to talk to the school administrator at our church school. It didn't come out anywhere near what I was expecting but I now have a temporary part-time project (paid!) to do. And I have my foot in the door for any elementary teaching positions that come open for next fall.

Congrats......another step in the right direction. Hopefully a teaching position comes available for you soon.

Went to Safeway and Giant today. I spent 71 cents at Giant and got:
8 Bags of Quaker Rice Cake Snacks
1 Loaf of Bread
1 Sure Deodorant
2 100 calorie packs of cupcakes
1 dozen eggs
1 large bottle Perrier

The cashier was totally impressed - said I got everything for free (not really - it was 71 cents).

Safeway I spent $8.59 and got 4 packages of clearance lunch meat, 1 pound of lean hamburger (clearance), 1 bottle of clearance apple juice and 4 cans of clearance chinese vegetables.
Total spent $9.30 for a new monthly total of $199.87

We are supposed to get snow again this weekend - not happy since that means everything will be cancelled. We are supposed to have a dance on Friday night and go to a dinner theater Saturday night (tickets were a Christmas present). We already have to miss our dance tomorrow night because DH has to work late.

Hi Folks!
I spent the morning digging up my septic system!
Yeah it's a crappy job but somebody's gotta do it!
So much rain latelly, I had to pump off some of the water. Now we can take showers! I put it in green cuz it saved me alotta money haha!

Moving right along.....
Yesterday I spent $32.41 oop at shoprite. I did resist buying extra rice though. We really do have enough. So that brings my oop total to $155.64 for January so far.

Our house guest departed yesterday so I'll be using less bread etc. For a while there, there were 6 of us and 1 more for dinner.

My fussy son has finally started liking gravy! He used to call it slime and refuse to eat anything cooked in it. I think it made a big difference when I started having him watch me cook and discuss cooking .

OK I'm gonna go get a shower.....because I can!@!!!!!

Hi guys! I'm finally back to the land of the living after my endoscopy on Monday. Did read back through all the fun I missed and have to say I was 5 in the early 60's...

I have some boneless skinless chicken breasts thawed out but have no idea what/how I am going to cook those. I may wait until tomorrow to do those so I can find a recipe but then I have to figure out what to make for tonight.

Jenn - I made this last night and it was a big hit with my DH, it was quick and easy (or was that me??:giggle2:)

One-Dish Chicken & Stuffing Bake

From: Campbell's Kitchen
Prep: 15 minutes
Bake: 30 minutes

Serves: 6
Chicken, stuffing and gravy bake together for a hassle-free and hearty dinner.

Ingredients:

4 cup Pepperidge Farm® Herb Seasoned Stuffing
6 skinless, boneless chicken breast half (about 1 1/2 pounds)
Paprika
1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (Regular or 98% Fat Free)
1/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

Directions:

Heat the oven to 400°F. Prepare the stuffing according to the package directions.
Spoon the stuffing across the center of a 3-quart shallow baking dish. Place the chicken on either side of the stuffing. Sprinkle the chicken with the paprika.
Stir the soup, milk and parsley in a small bowl. Pour the soup mixture over the chicken. Cover the baking dish.
Bake for 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

I hate dealing with those things too! Seems like I lose everytime.
Had no idea of walmarts min purchase when using them. Since I do a lot of mirs - I do alot of small transactions for separate tickets.

Now I go to a store and use that prepaid visa for a store gc. IE,,, walmrt - now I buy a $35 walmart gc from the $35 prepaid visa.

Then I don't have to worry about the balance or the stupid card losing money due to an inactivity fee - yep lost $2 last year on a RA rebate that was prepaid Visa GC.

I really do hate them, just not enough to quit getting them. It's free money for me in nbpn state so I do the gc rebates

I had a school meeting tonite and knew we were out of milk so I planned to go to WaWa and get milk and one of those wonderful wawa hoagies for myself to PIGout on. I thought of nothing but that hoagie all thru tthe meeting.

So there I was after the meeting getting the milk and I walked right to the register (do not pass go) and paid for the milk and left. It was hard but I did it , I resisted the urge to PIGout! YaY for me!!

So on the bright side I resisted temptation but I do need to add $3.69 oop to my total for that milk.

AND I weigh the same now as when this month began but at least I didn't eat the hoagie!!!

I got my hair trimmed and I'm pouting(like I do every time they trim it). She took about 6 inches . Anyway Walmart didn't have any great deals but SO decided he couldn't live without the $44.70 in junk food~ $16.24 was for candy bars alone :rolleyes24:. Then we stopped at Wags and I picked up 4 of the 64 load $3.79 Gain so oop $16.07(saved $44.80:wink7:). Guess putting my winnings into the house budget was good means I would be waaay over at this point. I just can't get SO to understand, but part of the problem is we have seperate money~ his money and my money and we each pay certain things. He's just gotten really bad about helping to spend MY money while his grows mold. I kicked my Dt Dew habit because the cost is just too much. I can't get him to even cut back(at least 4/day) but he thinks I should still pay for it...ugh.

Couldn't resist last post....I came to share a recipe of sorts. I know y'all prolly already do something like this but I was soo proud on how it turned out :BigHand: I just had to share.
Warning!!! Measurements are not exact. Not responsible for your measurements, this is a judge as you go.

Chicken Roll-ups (makes 8 filling roll-ups)
1-can chicken (or whatcha got)
Crescent Rolls
some shredded cheese
1-2 cans crm of whatever (used celery-really good)(amount is based on 4 or 8 count)(count is determined on size of crescent roll package):giggle2:
And whatever you like, ie, peas, carrots, corn, roasted red peppers, etc (oringinal recipe, Mom's calls for pimento). I used lots of spring onions and LO early peas w/cheese. Mix chicken, soup (half of total amount), cheese, whatever filler, salt, pepper and garlic pwdr (last 3-to taste). Seperate rolls into rectangles, add filling, roll and place seamside down in dish. Mix remaining soup w/ enough milk to make gravy-like and pour on top. Top with more cheese and bake @ 350 for 40 mins or so 'till top browns a little. AWESOME!!!! Note: I did end up freezing half of my filling for later because I only made 4.

It even gotta do over rating from the ol' hubs.

I got 4 packs and a few other things. Spent $24.00 for a new monthly total of $223.87. We do seem to use a lot of paper towels around here. Probably will not go to the store today since DH is coming home at noon. Usually don't go on the weekends either so maybe that will be the end for this month. I wish I had more discipline. Wow, I can’t believe a week has gone by without me getting a post in. I need to catch up, so here is what has been going on. First, my total was at $204.27. I received $10 unexpectedly that I had loaned to a friend. This had come out of my grocery money back in October, so that put me back under $200 at $194.27 I promptly spent $8.52 on ebay for coupons, so new total was $202.79
I spent 30 cents at CVS for soy joy, newspapers, and aspirin. $203.09. No oop on Monday. Tuesday DH and his father were eating some rabbit stew that a friend had given him, so I decided to make Chef Boyardee pizza for DS2 and me. That is a staple food around our house. A favorite of mine and DS2. I had the pizza crust mixed and on the pizza pan, ready to put on the sauce, when I realized that I didn’t have any sauce. This was a big no no for me. I am always supposed to have sauce and back up sauce. I don’t know how I ran out without realizing it, but there you go. It was like 12 degrees outside, so I talked DS2 into driving to the store to get me another pizza mix. Keep in mind, I wasn’t about to send him to WM to get it cheaper. It was get it quick at the closest place. No coupons, no nothing. His price for going to get it was a box of Snyder pretzels, one of his favs. Total oop $7.44 Yikes! So now we are at $210.53 Wednesday, my grandson had a ballgame out of town. One of the last of the season. I wasn’t prepared to be gone, so I picked up lettuce and cheese and bread at the store so that DS2 could make a sandwich. DH was on his own. The bad part is I don’t think DS2 even bothered to make own. He can be lazy like that sometimes. Anyway that was $5.87, so $216.40.

What rotten luck to get megasaver this week! LOL! Sorry girls, I couldn’t pass it up. We love rotel tomatoes, and what an awesome deal! Still I have spent money, but not gone totally beserk. 1st transaction I am really proud of. It’s the best I have ever done at Krogers. I got 2 jars of chi chis salsa, 4 bags of quaker rice snacks, 1 multipack of Brawny, 1 multipack of Northern tp, 22 cans of rotel. I had coupons for all, plus digital coupons $2 off each on brawny and tp, from krogers new digital coupons, loaded a couple of weeks ago. My total came out to be $1.08 at 98% savings! The cashier didn’t want to let me have it. She said “I can’t pay you to take things” , and took the receipt to the office. Apparently the office told her that it was ok. She came back to the checkout, and still stared at the receipt trying to figure a way to keep me from doing it. She finally took my money and let it go through.

My 2nd transaction was still good, but a little less savings. I’ve noticed that my ongoing transactions tend to get less savings each time, as my best coupons get used up. But for this one I got 8 boxes of electrasol for DD. (She will reimburse me.) 2 tubs of ICBINB butter, 1 chex choc. snack mix, 6 Kraft shredded cheese, 1 bottle of franks red hot sauce, 12 cans of rotel tomatoes, 1 brooks chili seasoning-not part of sale, just needed it for supper. Oop was $9.77 a 90% savings. Adding on those first 2 transactions I am at $237.25 That includes $10 that was spent at 2 basketball games for admission, popcorn and drinks.

3rd transaction-8 cans of rotel, 1 bag of Tostitos, 1 poppycock, 3 bottles of franks red hot sauce, 4 packs of Dixie plates, 3 Kleenex, the total was $8.82, an 80% savings. So we are at $236.07 Had to send DS2 back out for milk, which I forgot, and it was $2.29, so I’m at $238.36 So that brings me up to date. I’m sorry to confess that I will be going back for more rotel once they restock (my store has a 25 cent blinkie machine right next to the rotel, and I have been systematically emptying it. I’m out of my 30 cent off coupons now, so will be continuing to work the 25 cent off ones. and definitely more cheese. I would get more Dixie plates if I had coupons. I had thought to wait and shop again once we roll into February, but since I’m already over budget, is there really an advantage in waiting until February? What do you guys think? I’m $38.36 over budget. I do have money from DD to collect for the electrasol and newspapers—it would take $9 off my total, which would help, but not enough.

Well heeeelllloooooo ladies!!! I'm finally baa-ck!!

Our computer got a virus about two months ago, so we sent it away to be fixed a few weeks later, and JUST got it back last night :rolleyes24: I have been meaning to get to the library or a family's house and get on here to get my monthly challenge thread fix :giggle2: but I have been suffering what can only be described as the worlds WORST cold for the past 2 weeks which turned from coughing and stuffy nose to a veerryy sore throat, lots of fluid in my ears (I literally can hear nothing. hubs finds it quite hilarious to call me "grandma" while yelling for me to hear :hysterical:) and pink eye in BOTH eyes. phew! So I'm taking it easy today and catching up on the deals I've missed!!

I've missed you alll!!!!

ps. Without this challenge and this boards to catch the deals, I am nothing. I have spent pretty much all of my alotted money for the month and have pretty much nothing to show to it. I've been paying full price, with few coupons (actually the lack in couponing has been thanks, in large part, to this cold that I can't kick...).

pps. Cody my total for January is $180. ACK! I know!

Having dh stop by the store on his way home for a few items. That should be it for the month for us. Then on 2/1 I go into major stock-up mode for a couple months. We will be on a much tighter budget come April or May, and it won't ease much for about a year. So will be trying to get a good 12-18 months of non perishable items, hba etc.

This weekend is going to be cold so we are staying home. I'm going to bake some pumpkin and apple/walnut bread, organize my Qs and rebates, and go through the stockpile to see what I need to add to it.

Dinner tonight - BBQ chicken thighs in the crockpot (will shred them for sandwiches), seasoned potato wedges in the oven, maybe a green veggie of some kind.

Here's another funny story I have to share. This happened when we had the football pool get together a few weeks ago.

First off, of course we'd all had some beer...I tell this story which involves a friend of mine who (as part of the story) I mentioned has "enormous breasts"....fast forward about 1.5 hours. My coworker (he and I work together ALL the time, we do the same jobs) tells me "I was wondering, what's your idea of "enormous". I'm like..."Well...really big! Oh, was that a comment about the size of mine?" He says "Well, yeah, the first time I met you it was really hard not to stare".

This went on...I have to see this guy 5 days a week...so awkward! LOL

OT - DD calls brocolli trees...the other night she ate all of her brocolli and said "more trees" heehee it was very cute.

Can you haver her come over and convince my boys that Trees are good? :wink7:

When my nephew was 3 he would watch the Land Before Time movies,
and I convinced him to eat brocolli by referring to them as "tree stars".

(For those not familiar with the cartoon dinosaur series,
"tree stars" are a special treat.
It's a leaf at the top of some tall trees that only the long necks can reach.)

But, he ate his brocolli, so that was my point......
