Turkey question--what would u do?

My local walmart has the turkeys @ 60 cents a pound, limit two. I have been looking for the 40 cents per pound that I have read is available but I cannot find that price at any walmarts near me. My local GFS has them for 49 cents a pound. Anyway......due to unusual circumstances, our family will be doing Thanksgiving the following week after Thanksgiving. So will turkey prices be better after Thanksgiving or should I pick one up at 49 cents a pound or if unavailable, suck it up and pay the 60 cents per pound?

In my area it is very hit or miss right after the holiday on getting Turkeys.

But I am surprised you aren't seeing deals for better prices. Two of my local groceries have Free turkeys, another $.29 When you spend $25.

In my area, I have NEVER seen good deals on turkey after Thanksgiving. The stores just put them back in the freezer and sell them for $1.19/lb.

.49 or .60 a lb is a great deal around here. I have found some of the .40 at Walmart, but other than that we don't see the .29 or Free like other areas. OP , if it were me I would go ahead and get one for .49 if you can and if not pay .60. That is still really cheap and if something better comes along, and if you have the freezer room, buy another one. Turkey is very versatile for meals.

I would go with the .49 cents a pound. they 40cent a pound are going about as fast as they put them out here so that maybe why you cant find them.. I saw some of them last week and they were really huge I mean they would feed 30 people easy and most of use dont need one that big..why pay 40 cents to try to save if you are not going to use all of it? I had never saw one as big as these were I kid you not they were huge, i did not look at the wieght on them for I had my twins and my hands were full with them....

Have you asked the Walmart manager or called corporate? Walmarts deal is a $20 Thanksgiving for everyone and thats coming down from corporate. I dont think its up to the individual stores to participate or not. The 'beginning today' started 2 weeks ago.

OOS at my store today... was told will be in "sometime" this week... and he turned his back and walked away quickly... i could not get an exact answer and i would have asked if he had an idea when... not a promise..just an idea... oh well i guess its the 68 cent a pound... not bad...but .40 much better as i do need a large one...

I actually wrote corporate about those turkeys being out of stock everytime I went in. The manager called that night and said that he would hold one for me...but only one. It took about a week but they finally called. It was a 15lb turkey ,I could have used a larger one but beggers can't be choosers.

$.49 per pound? I'd grab a few now.
The best you can do after thanksgiving is $.39/lb and that is only if you are lucky enough to hit a store marking them down.

I got 2 after thanksgiving at that price 4 years ago. Since then , try as I might, nobody had markdowns on the turkeys.....or else I missed it.

At .60 per pound, I'd hold out. But that's me.
My thoughts are : hams can be had cheaper than .60/lb after easter and we like them better. Beef can be had at .99/lb maybe once a year.
Markdown chickens maybe .49/lb.......you see where I'm going with this.....

pork loins best price on sale is .99 and we swoop on that one and cut our own chops and roasts.

So unless you just love turkey, .60? I dunno.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do. I really hope you can get some of those .49 ones....Wish I could........and don't forget to boil the bones and scraps for a wonderful broth!!!

around here they really don't put up a lb per price. its usually $14 off of a 16 pd turkey and up or $10 off of a turkey 15 pds and under. If you go to butterballs website and send comment they will send you a $2 off coupon. or you can print it.
