No offense to anyone but does anyone know of a way to hide individual posts from your screen? There ends up being so many posts that aren't specifically related to a deal that it takes forever when you need to go back in and look for something.

I just finished going through almost 300 posts for the week ending today to get my shopping list together.

Thanks!

IDK, vegas.:shrug7: I'm just thankful to have this kind of networking and it's free so I just take the bad with the good. I've learned alot through the posts regardless of whether or not they're directly related the week's ad. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

I've seen on some of the grocery forums, i.e. meijer. the moderator will collect all the deal posts from the replys and merge them into one post right at the beginning of the thread. Maybe we could suggest that of our GE moderator? :shrug7:

I agree that i'm just glad everyone helps out with ideas and deals, it certainly saves me a lot of time.

Most message boards have a way to block individual members' posts (in your settings, usually), but like Stacey, I don't mind. I learn a lot and the people are very helpful.

Someone checked and our mod hasn't posted since Sept. Hope everything is ok. A deal summary is great. Jen276here usually does one at the beginning of a thread of her own matchups, but I don't think we have any active posters with the ability to cut and paste others' posts into a summary post.

Just so there's no confusion I was not thinking of blocking any one person. I was wondering if after you read a post if there is an icon or place that you can click to hide the post. If any of you are familiar with Facebook there is a box on the right-hand side of "Farmville" posts that says "Hide Farmville". If you click on that it disappears from the screen.

There is a series of icons on the posts. I'm not sure what they are for and I was wondering also if you can click on any of those and make a separate record of the posts you are interested in saving.

I find myself going back often to the thread and trying to skim through them looking for a particular post.

petergabrielfan

I know what you mean, and I don't know of a way to do that here (great idea). The icons on the posts are for telling you if someone is on line, giving reps and then for reporting a post as inappropriate. I wish I knew of a better way to sort posts, because that is a good idea.

I know what you mean...I've gone through hundreds of posts looking for one thing but I can't complain: I'm just as guilty of making chit-chatty irrelevant posts as anyone else. It's human nature right? Somebody says one thing and then you jump in with the "Oh me too! And BTW that reminds me..." :giggle2:Or is it just women that do this?

What you could do is copy/paste the posts explaining deals you want into the "Notepad" program on your computer. I've done that before and then printed it and took it shopping with me. It works well for some of the more complex scenarios. Just copy/paste as you find a deal and then no more searching!

Also I was wondering what happened with Jen276here...she usually has the matchups near the beginning. I've been working on looking for IPs to matchup to sales...I used to do that months ago but got tired of it. Very time-consuming...

Oh I just noticed Jen276here made a Deal post 3 days ago...nothing's in it
yet...

I just did an experiment and I was able to cut and paste other people's posts into a post I made. I copied posts with links and they worked just fine...so I guess anybody can do it!

If I am looking for a certain product and remember seeing a post, I just type that product name in the "Search This Thread". Its a drop down (located in the specific thread) in the orange box right below the page numbers at the top right of the screen. It will then pull up a list of all the posts with that product name in them from that thread. If you happen to remember the posters user name, again click 'Search this thread" then "advanced search" and type in their user name. It will pull up all the posts they have written in that thread.

I'm a total slacker this week - sorry all! I did a ton of yard work on Sunday (including moving about 500lbs of stone) and basically opened a can of whoop-tush on myself with it. My body has finally stopped aching insanely. I've been posting but I haven't really done the deal post or my shopping list because my mind wouldn't focus through the pain! Teach me DH is to do all yard work for now on!!

This week's deal thread is a bit chattier than normal so it is hard to get through. I'm going to update post 3 tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've used the search feature and also cut and pasted specific posts into a word document before. I was just hoping there was a quick way to make the posts disappear from your screen that you know you only need to read once.

Thanks to everyone who posts the great deals and answers questions. I don't do alot of thank you's in the deal threads because I don't want to junk them up but do appreciate the match ups and scenarios, etc.

Does anyone else notice that when they go to their Red Plum or other inserts and look for coupons that are suppose to be there they are missing? It happens to me alot and I have to pass on the deals. I was looking for Deer Park, Zone Perfect, Delmonte and several others today. All of which were suppose to be in the various inserts. Mine have alot of junk advertising pages where others might have coupons.

Yes! Honestly, my RP is mostly garbage now (Blair clothes, collectable plates, Kinoki foot pads, dog sweaters, etc.). I also find that the coupons it does have tend to be what I call "junk" coupons: Osteo Bi-Flex, EsterC, Smooth Away, Slimshots, etc.

11-13-2009, 10:48:03 AM
Jen, I am willing to help with this. Maybe alternate weeks or months or whatever works for you. I check in everyday or just about everyday so easy enough to see what one might want to know specifically for the deals.

I've mentioned before, maybe I offended some, I hope not, but I'll risk it again with my opinion. I really think the best plan of action is to create a new thread after Sandy or another posts the ads.

In the original ad thread can be chit chat, scenarios and what we discover about the sales or coupons we find.

In the new thread, only the delegated person for the week c&p the ad in the first post, scenarios with q matchups with that special guide in the second post and then the third post can say shelf or sale if not stated in the second post.

That way if there is anyone that doesn't want to chit chat or wants a quick reference that thread will only be three posts long. Those that feel like chit chatting about the deals or whatever pops into our heads during that moment can do so freely.

Sorry if this post is a little crazy or lacking or wordy; my computer is giving me fits so I'm just going to hit reply now. ;)

FunnyFace I like that idea too! I have a love/hate relationship with the chit-chatting: I like to chit chat and read the chit chat but then hate it when I go looking for something. I don't want anyone to stop talking so a separate deal thread only would be great!

I don't think this separate chit chat thread is working so well; I mean there's like a dozen posts in the GE ad thread just about where to put potatoes! And a bunch of posts on how to get RedPlum coupons (several of which I have written) :confused77:
:wink7: Guilty as charged!

Makes me wonder what the hundreds of lurkers must think of the irrelevant posts we make...obviously they are not chit-chatters...

petergabrielfan
11-13-2009, 11:49:36 AM
It seems like some of us take the chit chat here, and others just like it in the thread. Personally I read on a lot of boards here and I seldom notice many complaints about chit chat except on the GE threads. Occasionally you'll see two members go at it and a mod will remind them to stick to the deals, but that is seldom that I've seen.

Vegasgal
11-13-2009, 11:51:17 AM
Great idea Funny Face. That's what I was hoping to accomplish by starting this thread this week. Didn't work too well. The chit chatters are too busy in the deal thread to even pay any attention to me. lol Maybe if we can make it "official" with some kind of announcement in the deal thread it might work.

I notice alot of new posters here and I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from chiming in just wish they would put it somewhere else.

I did learn alot about potato storage too. Not all is lost. lol

I think it would help if we had a mod to post regularly. It seems like when announcements are "official" people tend to listen better.

I managed 10 bags of Birds Eye Veggies and 1 bag of croutons for a whopping 57 cents.
Man that feels good.

I cheated on Big Bird and went to an apple farm and The West Side Market today. Still must get to the bird for PB, broth (missed last weeks getting a rain check due to getting the flu and not being able to get off the couch), and some odds and ends. I love GE, but really enjoyed the market today!
Still need to figure out what all I want since the Ragu is going by sale :-( I keep it around for days when we are out all day and decide on dinner at 6pm!
I'll be checking out GE tomorrow after I get my girls pics done. I think there is a GE in Medina near Portrait Innovations...

I do not know about you guys, but what they have done with the cafe in the Washington store is horrible- and just to put the beer in! They mostly enclosed it, much much smaller. It feels like your in a box. I loved going there and shopping, then having a cup of coffee with the hubby while the kids are in the Eagles Nest. It makes me very sad. :shrug7::sad::confused58:

Is that the N.Huntington store? How ae the employees w/ couponers? The one here in Greensburg is terrible - I shopped there for about a month or two and vowed never to go back after they refused to honor corporates rule about RRs being like mqs and instead changed it to that you can only use 1 per transaction. Yes, that's the store. I've only been in there twice and both times they were OOS of the items I went in to get. At this point I don't have any idea how coupon friendly they are. I went to the Greensburg store previously and haven't gone back. They were always OOS too and I didn't want to keep driving up there to check to see if they restocked. I didn't care for the RR system and having to go back another time to use them. I wanted to buy a $3.99 case of water with a $4.00 RR and they wouldn't let me do it so I spent an hour in the store trying to find another small item that wasn't way overpriced. Too much of a pain in the butt for me. Maybe it won't be so bad with this store since I'm always passing it and live close. I'll try to remember to let you know after I've used coupons there. If you haven't heard from me in a few weeks ask me again. It might have slipped my mind.

Walgreens and the RR can be a PITA, especially since they expire in 2 weeks. I generally don't shop there because there isn't one extremely close to me. I usually pick the weeks they have a lot of RR deals and then keep rolling them onto other deals during the same shopping trip. I try to end with a small RR so I can just grab a gallon of milk and use the last one. For fillers the usually carry holiday pencils that are 25˘ each or a candy bar.

11-15-2009, 10:11:59 AM
Yeah, it wasn't worth my time in the Greensburg store- the cashiers started getting rude about me being in there several times a week, and my coupons. I went to grade school with the Store Manager, so I called and talked to him after they mysteriously changed from accepting RRs like they're supposed to (as mqs - 1 per item), to only allowing 1 RR per transaction. He stated that they were wrong to accept more than 1, and apologized.

Spoke with corporate (not cs, actual corp) and they stated that yes, they are mqs and between those and insert mqs they can do 1 per item.

Spoke with SM again, and he stated that his 'bosses and LP' are the ones who thought it would be better to only accept one per transaction because they would rather have people come back into the store several times to use up the RRs than only come once every 2 weeks and use them all at once :hysterical: I told him, well, if you want me in there every day you'dallow me to use them the way corp policy is - and if I'm only allowed 1 per transaction then you won't see me in your store again.... He called back a week or two later to tell me it was still a no-go. LP and his bosses only allow 1. So I havent been back!

I have a feeling though, that all these new Wags (Latrobe, Greensburg, N.Huntington, and the new one going up near N. Versailles) are all going to be in the same district as there isn't any other Wags around here. So the LP and DM will be the same and probably have the same stupid rules for all the stores LOL

Sorry so long - but I was so excited to have Wags in the area finally and it p's me off that they are run by a bunch of numnuts!

What paper do you buy? They were in my papers (PPG). What I've done in the past is call them and tell them the inserts weren't there - 9 times out of 10, they'll have the carrier drop the inserts off to you.

petergabrielfan
11-15-2009, 05:08:06 PM
I had the SS today but I'm nowhere near the PPG. :) I have tried to call my paper (The Toledo Blade) before about missing inserts but their excuse is always that not every zip code gets the same inserts and I must be mistaken blah blah blah. Then I tell them my next door neighbor got them and they immediately redeliver but are very nasty about it on the phone. Then they wonder why circulation is down!?

This has been a great week for frees for those of us who get doubled coupons up to $1. Got tons of free Vanity Fair stuff and a bunch of other things. I'll have to post later everything I got. I also loved the $.25 Over The Moon milk 1/2 gallons last week. I just happened to see them on sale for $2.25 each and then I had $1 coupons. Usually the advertise the sale on those, but this time they didn't.

DH is going on a business trip all week, leaving me alone with two 3-month olds and a 4 year old.

My sister and her son visited late last week. Within a day of visiting us they both came down with a horrible fever/sore throat/tummy bug. She felt fine when she was here, so I'm not upset with her or anything. They're both still in bed at home now. Guess who thinks she is getting the tummy bug and sore throat today? :loser3: :sigh2:

In my store, next to the pharmacy and before the nutritional drinks (boost, ensure) there is a small area of vitamins. They were in there - hard to find though because they were wiped out except one box of the drink powder mix (single serve that you add to a bottle of water). I'm glad though because I can't swallow pills, so I'm happy to see a drink mix!

My poor husband feels awful for having to go out of town this week. I know it's part of his job, but I'm a little jealous that he gets a kid-free week, even if he'll be working like a fiend in Portland, OR.

Oh, Sophia... :hysterical:

Your DH is out with my brother, who lives out there! My DH had to work this weekend while we were all sick. I almost called my mom but figured it would be better to not pass the bug on to anyone else. Eh - I should have called her!!! lol

OT - you know what I want a sale on this week? The DiGiorno Flat Bread Melts. We've got some $.75/1 Q's that will be expiring at the end of the month and last time I think they were only $.50 after Q. I'm thinking we are due for that sale again!!!

I'm also thinking we are also due for an Eggo sale (although my stores all have notices that product is limited).

I'm hoping for the Nequick single bottles to go $10/10 'cause with the $.50/1 any product Q they'd be free!!

Oh please oh please oh please let there be an Eggo sale coming up! I'm out and I know my son is going to have a fit! That's all he'll eat for breakfast!

Why is the product limited? I know there was a recall on some of them - does it have to do with that? Gosh I hope not, my son would just go nuts if he didn't have his Eggos!

This is random, but I never get the Nesquick coupons. My friend lives a zip code away and she does, but I never do. Luckily my mom likes to read papers from all over the state so she buys them in her town (Lima) and passes all the q's on to me. Then I "pay" her in free/cheap stuff that I buy with the q's. My mom is hopeless when it comes to coupons. I can cut them out, match them up with sales for items I KNOW she buys and she never uses them. I'll go to her house and see the new item she bought, ask if she used the coupon and she says she forgot. But, I digress...people not using coupons when someone holds their hand is a pet peeve of mine. Oh well, more frees for me!

Speaking of mom, she is supposed to be coming to help out with the kiddos this week, but aforementioned sick sister and nephew live with her, so it may be catching.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the Eggo products - the signs all just say product stock is low on the MFR's end and they apologize for any inconveiniences, etc. etc. I thought maybe it was due to the recalls too, but not really sure. I wonder if they had to purge everything due to the potential contamination?

My mom is clueless too. I have taken her shopping and just can't ever do it again! I told her once I would give her 5 Birds Eye Q's to get them free. She told me to keep them that $1 was good enough for her......

I hope you do get some help - especially if you aren't feeling well!

Oh my, your mom sounds like my mom. She found Purina Busy Bones on sale somewhere for $1 each. She had coupons but didn't use them. When I asked her why she said $1 was a good price and that she would keep the coupons for when they weren't on sale. Seriously... I told her that we could always buy more coupons and that she was insane.

I should probably put this in the other thread..but Oh my GOODNESS, have any of you tried Dr. Oetker Mousse Supreme? It's on sale for $2 this week..I have some tesr pads from ages ago for 1/2...this stuff is AMAZING! At my store it was in a cardboard display in the aisle, w/ jello, etc.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a mom who makes her insane! Here's the best part...my mom LOVES premium coffee. Right now there are a ton of great premium coffee coupons out...Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Seattle's Best, Caribou. I gave her some q's and I guarantee they will expire and get thrown away, yet she will buy the coffee and forget the q's. My mom is on a fixed income so I try to help her out but I guess you can't help someone who'd rather "not fool with coupons" (direct quote) and pay full price. Whatevs, I say. :shrug7:

Also, I have to make a confession. In addition to the new GE ad, I am way too excited about the new John Mayer CD this week. Honestly, I can't sleep I'm thinking about it so much. My husband thinks I'm insane (for many reasons). :whistle67: I love music, though, and his just totally speaks to me. It comes out Tuesday and I am dragging the kids out first thing to use my GC that I earned buying Glade. I told my husband I was ridiculously excited that the CD comes out the day before my birthday. Happy birthday to me! :giggle2:

That is another one no one seems to get - buying coupons (eh hem - I mean paying for someone's time to collect, sort, and ship coupons :giggle2:)
People think I'm insane! I always get the 'won't spend money to save money' thing. I really do understand that concept, but I just did some quick math and for the last $26 I spent in Q's I've save $316.00+ and that doesn't include the cats and/or other freebies (ie 11 or so Wilton pans at $5.49 each, so another $60ish in savings) that I wouldn't have gotten because I wouldn't spend the money without a Q. I obviously think it is worth it!

I totally buy coupons. I sometimes buy random lots, I sometimes buy just certain ones. Like Jen, I save a ton and sometimes if it's a great deal ($3 Snuggle...Free dryer sheets at Family Dollar, anyone?) I will buy a big ol' bunch of them and get that deal repeatedly!

Before you lose hope for the whole district, have you been to the Latrobe store? I've only been there once, but I was really impressed. I've been to most walgreens stores in the pittsburgh area (not the new greensburg store yet though) and this was one of my favorites. I did multiple transactions, used multiple cats, and they had plenty of stock. The store was clean and the employees were friendly. I bought like 3 sets of free after RR stuff and no one gave me the stink eye.

Neeky, I have great experiences with my Walgreens here too (RA too for that matter). I actually just had my first iffy experience tonight at Walgreens but the manager made it right. I had one of those $4.00 for Airwick coupons (on sale for $3.99) and the cashier told me it was coupon fraud to adjust the price of the item up to meet the value of the coupon. I explained to her that it was the other way around (can't lower the value of the q), that Walgreens policy is to adjust the item price up and the manager backed me up, so that was good.

It just takes time. Here's what I suggest. Pick one store (CVS is a good one, or even GE), and focus on how to find good deals at just that one store. Once you have it mastered (or nearly so), add another store. The forums here will be a great source of help for you. Be patient and know that you will miss some deals, but there will always be another sale.

You don't need to want a ton of qs in order to trade/buy them. Try out our trading forums here. You could find someone who will trade smaller quantities of qs.

Kelly, I just realized our little ones are the same age!

Anyway, Willow78 has some great advice. I started out on this crazy coupon adventure doing Rite Aid, and now I do lots of stores. I don't have any stores that double an unlimited amount of the same coupon, so I only buy larger lots when I KNOW I'll be able to get to the store enough to make buying them worthwhile. As Willow 78 said, visit the individual forums. I do this regularly and that's how I form a plan of attack for the week.

How do you do it with two of them?! :wink7:

I think that is my problem. My head is spinning right now because I know there are so many good deals out there and I want to grab them all. I am preoccupied with if I am getting the best deal on something or not. I need to take a step back, take a few deep breaths and just focus on GE for now, until I feel I have that mastered. Then I'll add in a drugstore or Target. Thank you both for talking me off the ledge!

Kelly, it does get easier once you start. You will mess up a few times and be PO'ed at yourself, but you just go forward. After you start it becomes second nature to you. The number one rule is be organized. And the second is never ever go anywhere without your coupons. My coupon book only comes into the house on coupon Clipping Days.

It is/was. I can't wait for it to be finished. I go to the Wags that is close to Shadyside/Wilkinsburg, and hate it. The store manager made a big production in the spring out of my wanting to use a bug spray coupon that began with a 9 (which of course beeped). :rolleyes24:

I started with Target, but realized I was spending waaaay to much money there. Yeah, they'd have a few MM deals - but for the most part everything costs something and I just couldn't do it financially.

Then I finally got the nerve to try CVS and was hooked on that for quite a while LOL Rite Aid is right here by my house, but honestly I didn't realize the deals that could be had there - now with the 2 lil ones I just do RA because CVS was way too much work and it's much farther of a drive for me.

For a while I was trying to do CVS, RA, GE, Walmart, and Target - yeah...right - Burn Out city! I stick with RA and GE now :-) Those are the two that I do the best with - and if I see something in the Target ad I'll go a couple times (like the chinet deal right now - I had a few bogo coupons)

I'm so behind on clipping coupons its crazy. That's my goal for this week is to get everything caught up!

Another good piece of advice is to remember that another deal is just around the corner. Don't try to do it all at once and if you miss a deal, don't worry :-) It's nice now that my stockpile is built up, I can pick and choose a little more on what I 'need' to do each week. I also noticed that my 'buy-at' price keeps getting lower and lower :giggle2:

Thanks for explaining that. Now I know what to watch out for when I go into the store. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you are saying they will only allow 1 RR per visit. That is a real pain in the rear. You can't even use it the same day, expires in two weeks and can only use one each time you go back. I'll have to keep that in mind and see what kind of a story I get at this store.

About the Eggo shortage... from the Kelloggs website:

Question:

I have not been able to find Eggo® waffles in the store. When will they be available again?
Answer:

Eggo recently experienced supply constraints caused by flood damage at our bakery in Atlanta. In addition, we've been making significant equipment and technology enhancements at our other waffle bakeries. Unfortunately, these repairs and upgrades are taking longer than anticipated.

Eggo is working around the clock to bring everyone's favorite waffles back to store shelves as quickly as possible. We hope to regain full distribution of Eggo products by the middle of 2010. This is a top priority for Kellogg Company.

For more information, call 866-971-3320. Thank you for your patience during this time, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

I agree with you about Target. I very seldom get free or MM items there, and the hassle just isn't worth it, frankly. Right now I've been doing the Glade GC deal, but the stock is getting low and I know some Targets are getting weird about blinkie usage. Yeah, pretty much. Although - if you ask nicely they'll let you do multiple transactions (how stupid...lol) And they did let me know that you have up to 1 month past the expiration on the RRs to use them - since they know the elderly can't make it in all the time to use their RRs.... doesnt make any sense to me LOL

I think they've really ramped up their efforts to get shoppers in the doors - and its a good thing for them. The amount I 'spend' in mqs there is crazy, so they're getting a good chunk of change from me  I buy alot more there that I never would have expected to buy from a drug store! I think the VV coupons are reimbursed too - it's just all the 5/25s that they're footing the bill for. But I have a feeling they might just be turning for the better....hopefully!

Kelly -
It gets easier. Just start slowly, or you'll drive yourself crazy. At this point, I understand how a lot of stores work, BUT that doesn't mean that I need to go to every store every week. I flip through all of the ads that I receive, and I prioritize. If I can't make it out - that's disappointing, but I'm okay, because I know that I'll find another deal another week.
Learn the basics - don't be afraid to ask questions (people here are especially friendly) - take it easy and have fun.

Maybe a canned ham? We always made Krakus canned hams when I was growing up (I don't eat ham but my family swears by it). No fat that I've ever seen. Will check the prices when I go to the store later to see if they are a good deal.
