In my experiences with Waldbaums which is a sister store to A&P the Bonus Bucks have always counted on the shelf price before coupons. This has worked especially well with things like a yogurt deal a while back with triples. Last week with the insert $1 doublers I did the following:
4 Blue Bunny ice creams (retail $5.XX) which were buy one get one free
Total before sale was over $20
Total after buy one get one free was $10.XX
Used 4 $1/1 printable Blue Bunny coupons which all doubled deducting $8 from the order and leaving me with a balance of $2.XX
And then I got the $5 off your next order coupon for spending $20 on Blue Bunny products.
I am sure others can give more insight.

TSUalum is correct. Cat delas are based on shelf prices.

I would agree that most of the time, the bonus bucks are based on shelf price. However, A&P management would argue that point and insist it is based on the sale price. I have found that some of the "newer" flavors or varieties are not always programmed to be part of the deal, thus creating a problem. If the shelves are stickered with the promotion information, which they don't seem to have been lately, I always go for the variety with the bonus bucks tag under it, trying to avoid getting burnt. I hope this helps.

I have been having fun doing this week's Pillsbury Spend $15 Get $5 OYNO Bonus Bucks deal at Waldbaums this week - works great with the triple coupons going on over there.
I can confirm that the following combinations all worked for me on regular shelf prices ...
2 Crisco Veg Oil - $5.39 Reg / $2.99 Sale
1 Crisco Canola Oil - $5.39 Reg / $2.99 Sale
-------------------------------------------
Reg Prices of $16.17 Sale Prices of $8.97 Before coupons
1 Crisco Veg Oil - $5.39 Reg / $2.99 Sale
4 Pillsbury Fudge Brownies $2.59 Reg / .99 Sale
---------------------------------------------
Reg Prices of $15.75 Sale Prices of $6.95 Before coupons
2 Pillsbury Choc Chip Swirl Quick Bread - $2.89 Reg / $1.67 Sale
1 Pillsbury Cinnamon Swirl Quick Bread - $2.89 Reg / $1.67 Sale
2 Pillsbury Vanilla Funfetti Frosting - $2.29 Reg / $1.67 Sale
1 Pillsbury Creamy Vanilla Frosting - $2.29 Reg / $1.67 Sale
-------------------------------------------------------------
Reg Price of $15.54 Sale Prices of $10.00 Before coupons
All 3 times I received the $5 Bonus Bucks. All items purchased had matching insert coupons from this past weekend.
As always check the regular prices at your own store - they vary greatly from store to store (mine are usually on the higher side being on Long Island)

Two other scenarios that worked for me...
5 5lb Pillsbury all purpose flour shelf price $3.19 each
5*1.50= $7.50
got $5 catalina
net $2.50
also
1 Folgers $5.99 - shelf $10.49
2 Pillsbury Fudge brownies $1 each - shelf $2.49 each
paid $7.99 minus coffee coupon
got back $5 catalina
I'll be going back today for more deals!

Are you rolling the 5 Catalina onto your next order?

I have rolled catalinas successfully in the past, but here is what happened today...
I decided to purchase 6 Funfetti Pillsbury Brownie Mixes at $2.59 each and gave the cashier my previous catalina. I did not get a new catalina. I assumed it was because the Funfetti must not be programmed to work, but maybe it was because I used a catalina? I'm not sure now!

I never had a problem rolling Cats at A&P. I'd bet the house (well maybe the garage) that it was something else. Are funfetti listed in the ad or was there a sign underneath?

I am sure it was the funfetti that is not programmed..I have rolled a lot this week and once I tried that one and it did not work

The folks at A&P have done a really shoddy job of including all items recently. I tried 3 times to do the P&G deal last week with Vicks stuff and none of them worked. I called Catalina about two of them and in both cases the 6 ounce Vicks which was pictured in the ad was what wasn't coming up. (also a new variety of Dayquil which didn't even ring up on sale). Then on the 3rd one, I was careful and bought the plain variety Nyquil that was in the ad, and the variety of Crest toothpaste that was in the ad. The only complication was that the Crest was a special pack with a free small tube (and a different UPC). Guest what? It still did not print, presumably because someone had forgotten toinclude the special toothpaste (although it rang up on sale). Fortunately in two of the cases the store took care of me and gave me the $7. The third store had an obnoxious manager who refused to do anything for me and insisted that it was because I had not spent $20 after the card prices. I finally called A&P corporate today and they told me that a) the store has to call in the receipt to them, not the customer, b) being pictured in the ad does not indicate that it is a qualifying item (fine print in ad), it has to have a shelf tag (but as you noted, in many cases they don't have those up, like in the case of the toothpaste which was on an endcap), c) the amount you spend had to be after the card (which we all know is not true) and d) the store is not supposed to do anything on their own to pay you, they need to call corporate. So I was basically told that there was nothing they were interested in doing for me (which was the same message I had gotten from the manager). I am going to have to avoid doing these deals at the store that refused to do anything for me, and/or not put my coupons in the slot until I see whether the Catalina prints so I can tell them to void the order and get my coupons back.

Since A&P is no longer putting up the shelf tags indicating items included in a BB deal, we should have a thread that simply has a list of what works and what does not for each future deal. This way we could all learn from each others success and failures. What do you think?

Sounds like a plan.

It sounds like a good idea, but there are so many variables (different varieties of different products) that I think it will be very difficult. And unless you call Catalina, you really don't know exactly what caused the problem, you can only guess.
