Not sure if GE will take those coupons or not. I tried using a newspaper coupon for $1 off a case of pop or something like that and they wouldn't take it, saying it was a Shop and Save coupon, but it wasn't. You could always try going through the self checkout and see if the system accepts them.

I was shocked when I saw my GE ad and Red Plum in today's mail. Hope the mailman keeps it up. Kept asking myself is this Tuesday? Great coupons in the RP.

There is also a separate Red Plum wrap around that has coupons for Hanover beans, frozen vegs., etc.

I just ordered $1/3 college inn broth q's (cans) at ebay. (they expire 11/21)

I figure - buy 21, pay $11 - use 7 q's and pay $4 for 21 cans of beef broth/turkey broth.

Do this 2 times and only 20 on the last time - pay $12 + $1.70 for q's and get 61 cans for .22 ea

I went to the website for college in to check... they dont make a 14 oz size. So I called the 1800 number. it is a misprint on the coupon. So it is good to go :)

I'm in New Castle, no throwing stones at me!, if you figure it out let me know. Red Plums website says I can get mine in the New Castle News and the Sharon Herald. New Castles is always pathetic so I picked up a Sharon Harold last weekend only to open it up to the same coupons as my NCN.

I also got my ad yesterday, but I didn't see it until this morning! Hubs grabbed the mail and I wasn't looking for the ad so I didn't notice it right away.

In my ad, it shows Honeysuckle turkeys on sale for $.59/lb for 18 lbs and over. I didn't see this in the type-up. Is this a special deal in my area? I think I am going to get one at that price, although I wasn't planning on getting that big of a turkey. It's $1.29/lb if I buy a smaller one though! If I can find one that's right around 18 lbs, it will only be about $11. I'm sure I can find different things to do with all the leftovers.

Went to see what flavor broths my GE carried in the College Inn line and they are:

vegetable (great to throw one of these in with your chicken broth for heartier flavor)
turkey
chicken
BEEF!!!

I won't be buying any chicken since I bought so many from the Swanson deal the other week LOL.

My GE had Save .75 on this package of eggs (large) wyb any BC cookie mix. It's a DND "5"

We also finally got the buy 2 tostitos, get free salsa q's that have been out for a while. Still can't find the elusive pepperedge farm q booklet - lot's of displays but no q's

There is a separate thread started for the GE turkey prices by region. See http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/giant-eagle/288673-turkey-price-region-again.html

The original post for this week should probably be changed for the turkey to PRICE VARIES BY REGION. I understand some price variances for different areas but not such a huge one. So far I've seen as low as $0.37 to as high as $0.79/lb.

You can either click the quote button that is beside the Multi which is beside the Quick or you can click the little quote icon beside the image icon once you start to reply. It will place this [quote] [quote] in the message. Then you can click between the bracket and copy the paste the words you want quoted.

The Multi button is for multiple quotes and you just click on it for the messages you want quoted and on the last one you click quote and it will show all the messages you want in your reply.

There is no difference if you get the Vindy at the house or the store, neither has the RP, and the Plain Dealer doesn't anymore either.
I'm not sure how that rumor ever started, where you get different Q's at the store rather than home. They all get done at the publisher's, and there is no separation except by region. And all that does is give you different stores than another region.

I get both the Plain Dealer & Akron Beacon Journal delivered to my house on Sundays and never get a Toys r Us ad but if I buy them they are in there. My mom gets them in her Plain Dealer. It really ticks me off though since I have to buy more papers.

To see if you get the redplum insert in your area go here.

To sign up for Red Plum by mail, go here
Valassis.com - Contact Us (http://www.valassis.com/1024/Contact/contact_home.aspx)

Choose “Consumer”,* and then “I would like to start receiving your coupons by mail.”
**From what I gather off their site, they only mail coupon inserts to areas that are not covered by newspapers, and it is only one per household.* If you live in area getting it in your paper you can always sign up and see if it comes.**

I have signed up for this about 3 weeks ago and still have not received them. They say it should start arriving in 6 to 8 weeks. It is worth a shot.

I was on their website before but I'm not clear on a couple things: 1) When I type in my address it says not available in my area and 2) I get a RP in my mail every Tues but it's just a single sheet with basically Pizza Hut coupons. If I'm getting that and then I sign up for mail delivery of the RP will I get a real RP or is the single sheet already what I'm supposed to get? :shrug7:

Cheapchick Before I started getting my Redplum with my ads, I only just got the cover too saying you could save so much in coupons, but the coupons were not there. My mom thought people from the post office were taking them lol...Now, since they discontinued them in the Sunday paper, I get them with the ads. I also was told that it depends on where you live. Supposedly, I was told by my SIL when you have to enter your zip code at a store, like K-mart, if you use a visa/debit card that determines where the coupons will go too. Not sure on that though. I'm just glad I am getting them now.

Ruined my day too! I was at SCO w/ DS in the cart and really wasn't sure if I was over the $20 mark for 2 cats - knew it would be close though. Well, of course I was less than $1 short...... errr... so only one cat. I could have run back but DS wasn't happy, I am still beat... okay I was just lazy and said forget it! It wasn't my morning as it was - forgot to use a previous cat and a CG balance...

I bought 1 Hellmanns, 3 Skippy, 4 Ragu, 20 College Inn, 20 Delmonte (tomatoes are NOT included in this sale), one snickers bar (needed the sugar!) and 3 gold peak teas for $19something and rcvd a $2cat and a Steeler Buck.

I forgot my Wishbone IP's too so I didn't pick any up! Ugh...

Sucks that the tomatoes are not included. I have some coupons coming. We dont use canned veggies and I cannot afford to pay even the 40 cents a can and donate the items as our budget is only $20 a week for food.

Anyways, once they come in the mail I will have a bunch of these I dont need. :-)

What I've done, is call over the cashier, tell her I forgot an item and tell her I want to scan an item 2 times and that I'll run back to get it after I'm done. Sadly, I've been doing that a lot lately LOL.

This way, you get your cats and don't have to get out of line to run back to get it. Sometimes, they'll even have a runner go get it for me.

I've done that too - but my mind was soooo far away from shopping today. I mean I forgot that I was buying Steeler buck items too! I'm racking today up as 'just not my day' lol!

Seriously though, I'm on a little bit of burn out lately. I've been hunting down the deals for Christmas and between the trips to Kohl's, JCPenney's, Target, Wags, GE, Dicks, etc. etc. my mind is mush. Add the aches and pains and DS#3 on my hip and I'm just a big ole wreck!

I was wondering about the RP too! :shrug7:

I am sorry but you will not receive the coupon book even if you will sign up, because as you said the website tells you that is not available in your area. I am in the same situation. I have signed up but did not receive any coupons. I called RP and was told that right now they do not deliver in my area and was asked to check their website from time to time because they are planning to expand areas where the coupons are delivered. So right now I am getting the RP coupons from my friends who live few blocks away and whose address qualify for the delivery.

I was planning on 10 lbs for Thanksgiving dinner too. Then I figured I'd get as many as I thought I could use before they went bad...I just don't know how long until they go bad.

Hopefully they'll run out and I can get a raincheck too. That would be cool.

How long will potatoes last if you keep them somewhere cool?

I just looked on the Idaho potato website and it says you have to keep them somewhere that's ...hmmm- here's the FAQ about it directly from the site:

"

If I purchased a 50 lb box of potatoes how long would they stay good if stored in proper conditions?
If stored at 45-48 degrees F with 95% humidity the potatoes will last quite some time, potentially months. Most people can not make arrangements to store them under those conditions. Store in the dark, in a cool location and you should be able to have them stay fresh for a couple of weeks. The potato is about 80% water, so high humidity really helps retain the moisture. Above 55 degrees the potato will start to shrink and is more susceptible to sprouting.
"
My basement is pretty humid, but I don't know if it's cool enough....we'll see.

When I was little we had a HUGE garden, and I can remember having tons of potatoes down in the root-cellar (cool-cellar, or coal-cellar..i've heard it called all three) which just a little cubby hole type of room in the basement with dirt floors and it was kind of under the back porch. They'd keep all winter in there!

It's hard to find a place to keep them without one of those cellars, my mom keeps hers in the far back corner of the basement in a paper bag and they seem to do ok like that. I don't have a basement, so I'm not sure if I should buy any or not...we've been eating instant potatoes since moving into this house :-P I miss REAL mashed potatoes! :giggle2:

Hey! I think I might have one of those cellars! Not a root cellar, but a coal cellar. There is a little room off of the basement, floors not finished and it's damp in there. That's where I have my pantry- but we can't put anything on the bottom shelf or it will get mold on it. I was afraid to put my potatoes down there, but the Idaho site said it needs humidity- there sure is a lot of that. I'll try it.

I have successfully stored potatoes in the crisper drawer of my extra fridge. My MIL, a potato grower from way back, told me to do this. I couldn't believe it but it does work and the potatoes have lasted at least a month in there.

I make sure that the potatoes are the only thing in that drawer as I don't know how ethylene gas from other fruits/veggies would affect the spuds. Also, make sure that your fridge doesn't get too cold and freeze things. Frozen potatoes get funny dark gray spots inside.

For what it's worth, my grandmother keeps telling me how potatoes should be stored in brown paper bags. I don't usually need to store them for an extended period of time, so I'm not sure how long they keep.

How long will potatoes last if you keep them somewhere cool?Store potatoes no longer than two months if mature.

If they are new, store no longer than one week.

+

Internet search on:

"storing potatoes"

+

Potatoes are pickier than most other vegetables about how they are stored.

If you're not careful, they can sprout, sweeten or shrivel and then you're not going to want to eat them.

Like with all fruits and vegetables you have to follow the right procedures for them to last once they've been removed from their natural environment.

• Step 1
Avoid rinsing potatoes before storing.

• Step 2
Place potatoes in a brown paper, burlap or plastic bag with holes in it.

• Step 3
Store in a cool, dark, dry place. A root cellar, if you have one, is the best storage option.

• Step 4
Make sure the temperature in the area is about 45 to 50 degrees F. Don't store potatoes in the refrigerator, or they will become too sweet.

• Step 5
Avoid storing potatoes with onions because, when close together, they produce gases that spoil both.

• Step 6
Store potatoes no longer than two months if mature. If they are new, store no longer than one week.

• Step 7
Check on them occasionally and remove those that have become soft or shriveled, as well as those that have sprouted.

+

Tips & Warnings

• Potatoes sprout as a result of exposure to light or warm temperatures.

• Avoid freezing uncooked potatoes.

• Sweet potatoes, although they appear similar to other potatoes, are actually much more delicate. Store sweet potatoes for a maximum of one week.

Well I guess Friday the 13th was not a good day for me to get my deals.

My 4 yr old is in pre-k on Friday mornings so I try to do a large chunk of shopping then as he tends to hate going to Giant Eagle! :giggle2: I thought it was going to be a good run because as I got my shopping cart I saw one that had a cat hanging from it and after pulling all the carts apart to get to it :giggle2: I found it was a Black and Gold bucks! I then went in and got my 20 College Inn Broth with (10) $1 off 2 coupons. Well I did not notice till I after I got home that only 19 broth were rung up so no discount. :shrug7: I am positive there were 20 cans as I counted in 5 or 6 times to verify. So I am out $5 there. I had steeler buck stuff in that first tranny (which was a big transaction) so I did a separate one with 2 Bertolli meals and 3 Steamfresh veggies and no bucks came out. I went to CS and the girl there did not know what Black and Gold bucks were!!:hysterical: I mean come on! The promotion has only been going on for weeks! So I showed her the other one and got and she got all flustered and said, Well can I just give you $5 in Cash? Ummm...yeah, cash will be fine!:wink7:

I had to get my son and this point and told him if he goes to Giant Eagle with me I will get him a Kids meal at Burger King. (they have sponge Bob toys in them and he knows that!) So off to a different GE. At this one I got 20 more broth and took advantage of the coke deal. I also got the coke deal and the other Giant Eagle mainly because I had a tearpad coupon to get the 50oz double pack thing free with 4-12pks. Went fine at the first store but at the second I did not notice till later they pop all rang up at $3 so paid $12 for 4!!! So after looking at the ad carefully when I got home I see it says you get 4 for $9 but ment only coke and sprite and I got Dr. Pepper for 2 of them. Usually all coke products work but I am guessing this is what happened. At least I got my freebie but 4/$12 for coke is enough to make me sick to my stomach!

So all told I lost $8. The coke one is my fault but the broth is the cashier as it appears she missed one can. Do I go back for it or not? I don't know if they can do anything now or not.

I guess I need to just focus on the freebie Steeler bucks I got...:wink7:

Er isn't Dr. Pepper a Pepsi product? Also wondering since your son doesn't like going does that mean your GE doesn't have an Eagle's Nest? When my brother was little he liked going cuz he knew he could play games and do an art project in the Eagle's Nest.

Dr. Pepper is always under coke sales. I am a big fan of Dr. pepper and Coke so when there is a good sale I know I can get both. Usually Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Ginger Ale, Cherry Coke, Minute Maid GRape and Orange, A&W are all safe bets.

I would call the GE first and explain what happened with the COllege Inn. Ask them what you should do.. They may want you to bring it all back and the return/rebuy. For $5 I would do that if I had too.

For the coke I would return and rebuy the right stuff. They have no idea what your coupons are full and will give you the $12 back for the returned 4.

No Eagles nest here.

Weird! I know Dr. Pepper is always lumped in with the Pepsi stuff...it's even on the Pepsi side of the aisle. Not just GE but other stores too...I swear I've never seen it in on the same sale as Coke stuff...now I'm going to keep my eyes open in the future.

Just did some checking and sure enough Dr. Pepper is on the Coca-Cola brands website...bizarre...my world has been flipped! :hysterical:

Too bad about the Eagle's Nest...it's a great place to throw your kid for an hour. Too bad it wasn't a real eagle's nest my mom put my brother into all those years ago...

Just did some looking online and Dr. Pepper is not owned by either but is bottled regionally by both companies (meaning Coke in one area, Pepsi in another). How is that for confusing?

Maybe that explains why it's always on sale with Pepsi here? I know I'm not imagining things. My college contracted with Pepsi to provide all the dining hall drinks and we got Dr. Pepper too. Or restaurants usuaully contract with Coke or Pepsi and if it's Pepsi then sure enough they will have Dr. Pepper.

Just checked another local grocery store: Pepsi 2 liters on sale inc. Mtn Dew and Dr. Pepper

Does anyone know if you can mix and match the veggie & broth deal?

10 veggies & 10 broth = 10.00

minus (2) 1.00/5 veggies
minus (5) 1.00/2 broth
total oop = 3.00

minus (1) 2.00 ouno = 1.00

Yes I just bought 10 broth and 10 G beans, receipt shows - $5 for buying DM Green Beans even though I bought both.

Anybody need anything? Or I will be going soon as I find where I put one of the 6 pairs of scissors in this house! :rolleyes24:

Someone mentioned earlier that the Uncle Ben's had been printing a cat for $1 off, when you buy 4.

Tonight I bought 5 Uncle Ben's Long Grain and Wild Rice, and a $1 ONYO did print. So it probably was the 4 that triggered it.

Well, I've just gotten back from GE and I wanted to make note of some things.

Ester C - $4.29 after BIGI. Use the $5/1 coupon from 11/08 RP = FREE

Dole Tropical Fruit and Mandarain oranges $1 use the 0.55/2 11-08 SS = 0.90 for both

A bunch of chinet plates have Buy package of plates get napkins free, plus there were blinkie coupon for $1/1 crystal plate, making it $1 for both napkins and plates.

Also a certain Robitussin was only $2.49, if you use the $2/1 IP from the database it would be only 0.49.

Carolina Rice was on sale for $1.19, laying on the floor was a 0.55/1 coupon, the database say it is from the 8-30 rp and expires 11-30. Doubled this made the rice only 0.09 a bag!! HURRAH!!!

Lipton Tea bags are 1.35 at my store, after the 0.60/1 11-15 RP is doubled = 0.15

AND... last but not least - I was wrong. But I am thrilled, the Marcal napkins are only 2.6x at my store, not $2.99, so completely free with the upcoming coupon!! WOOHOO!!

I cannot wait the 8 more months until my kids are big enough for the Eagles Nest, then I can really enjoy shopping.

I got 20 beed broth today and it was free however the coupons would not scan and the cashiers error message said the value of the coupon exceeded the value of the item. She had her manager push it through though. :-)

Database says 8-30 RP not SS. I checked my 8-30 SS and the rice coupon expired 10/10/09 and is for $1.00 off strange because the database says 11/30/09. Maybe other areas got the coupon you were referring to.

Somethings I forgot to mention before:

Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk $2 till 12-02-09 - I think there are 0.50/1 coupons out there. Various other Thai kitchen product were on sale for the same period as well.

Also, Goldfish crackers where $2 each, don't remember the end date of the sale, but I don't think it was any time soon. There are 0.75/1 IP on the Goldfish website that would make these 0.50 each!

Lipton Tea bags are 1.35 at my store, after the 0.60/1 11-15 RP is doubled = 0.15

...Two months ago I donated 110+ of those size Lipton Tea bags to the local food pantry.

I received great feedback that next time I visited the food pantry.

I think they gave a box to every person that was there for food.

Oh, I remember the good old days when these boxes were 99¢, then $1.05, and now $1.35.

The weirdest thing happened today - I bought 6 jars of Skippy Natural Peanut Butter, using RCs from when they were 2$. Each RC was for 2 that's why I went with 6 instead of 5 to equal 10$

But when she manually typed in the price for each jar - it still took off the 25c sale discount! So I got them for 1.75 and used the 75c/1 mqs = 25 cents a jar!

AND to make it even better, I still got the 2$ oyno for buying 10$ worth! (6*1.75 = 10.50) and the 5$ Steelers Bucks :-)

I have RCs for 4 more - but I'm out of 75c mqs, so I'll have to see if I can wrangle up 5 of the 60c/1 mqs...because I'm thinking that since they show up as 2$ each, I'll still hit the 10$ mark since it's going by shelf price, and the register should see the 2$ as the shelf price....makes it worth all the days I went up to GE during the 2$ sale and finding nothing but empty shelves!

FunnyFace
11-15-2009, 10:26:52 AM
Neeky that is fabulous! I've had that happen with rainchecks too and sometimes they adjust the price so it equals out to the rc price and sometimes they don't bother. I usually point that out to them, but they often get frustrated and don't care for me to help out mathematically ;) so I'll probably just keep quiet in the future.

Yeah, that was my figuring - I would normally point things out - but in the case of a huge line building behind me, and figuring it would take longer than $1.50's worth of GE's pay time to explain why she should put the RC price as 2$ and to have the first couple fixed...I just went with it LOL That and I was caught really off guard, I didn't expect that to happen at all.

The other day it took quite a while to explain to the cashier why I wanted her to change the RC price of the Sun Crystals to 2$ (instead of $1.99) since I had six 2$ coupons - she looked at me like I had two heads LOL But I figured having to call for a key for one RC is easier than having the supervisor stand there and punch in her code for each 2$ coupon and then the RC!

Totally agree. It seems to equal out in the end when we end up paying more than we should for some reason or another since we shop there so much.

The Unilever catalina did not print for me today. I bought 1 Hellman mayo, 1 skippy pb and 2 recipe secrets; shelf price equaled $10.20. CS insisted that the catalina was based on sale price, not shelf price. I didn't want to argue as there were people behind me in line, so I returned the four items.

When I think about it, it actually worked out in my favor, since I paid for my order with a $10 GE coupon from purchasing Best Buy gift cards last week (DH and I are buying each other a not-so-big screen TV as our Christmas gift this year); I didn't know how I was going to use $50.00 in GE coupons by November 25, even with Thanksgiving dinner to buy. I now have a $7.50 cash refund, which I can spend anywhere, any time.

Got 20 cans of College Inn broth, and all coupons scanned just fine; but there were no small steps napkins on the shelf. Shopping at GE is always an adventure, LOL!

I picked up the New Castle Weekender and the Red Plum q's were in there!!!:BigHand: I'm guessing this is different from the New Castle News since pharrothead said hers were pathetic because this is a nice, plump Red Plum ad. It was only $0.50 and had Smart Source and General Mills in there as well. Not sure if these were mentioned.

Progresso Broth is on sale 2/$4.00 and there are .50/1 coupons you can print, from a old insert as well as the one that came out today. I have never bought this stuff before but I needed it for a recipie so I thought it was a good deal at 1.00 each but I am sure some of you have done better! lol

Also the Sundown(i think that's the brand) vitamins are BOGO and there are some that are 3.XX. I think a coupon came out today, but I found some peelies on the top of them yesterday for 1.00 off. I paid .89 a piece for them.

There's this little convenience store on 422 right before the PA border called Tic Toc, that's where I got it. There was only one left at 10 am and since it had ads and was only $0.50 I just grabbed it.
