I need to buy a Thanksgiving turkey. Will GE have better prices if I wait until closer to Thanksgiving? I have foodperks I was going to use this week, but I can save them to use on the turkey shopping trip if that makes sense. I wasn't hard-core couponing last year at this time so I don't know how the cycle goes. Thanks! :wavehi:

GE usually doesn't lower their prices on holiday meats as it gets closer to the holiday; however, in the past they have matched competitors' lower prices for the same brand/size of turkey if you show them the competitor's ad. If you can find a store near you that is advertising a lower price on turkeys, it's worth a shot. Even better if you can snag a coupon (Honeysuckle and Butterball are good for coupons around Thanksgiving) plus use your foodperks...that bird will be practically free!

I remember GE being all over the map with their prices for Turkey's. It depends on what area you live. I tried to price match Erie's GE turkey prices to pgh and was shot down.

Hubby said Wal Mart had turkeys for 60 cents a pound. Not sure what type or brand.

Walmart put out a press release that they will have turkeys for 40c a pound. Reports are that Jenny-o and I think another brand are the 40c ones. They have others for 60c/lb, and I believe butterball was reported to be 99c/lb.
I havent been to WM yet to verify our area has the 40c ones, but it will either cause a price war and GE and SnS will lower theirs, or WM may end up being the place to go for turkeys this year!

Walmart put a full page ad in our Cleveland Plain Dealer earlier this week advertising their $0.40/lb turkey. Once the price match statements come out from GE then I plan on using this ad I tore out to get my bird for at least $0.40/lb.

I actually just got back from GE and saw that their Giant Eagle brand turkeys are on sale for $.29/lb. So I guess I answered my own question! I don't think that's a sale price so I may as well wait and see if anything better comes along in the meanwhile. Thanks again for all the responses!

What GE has that price. That's the lowest I have seen in years.

Kingsdale Giant Eagle in Columbus, Ohio. Does your GE have their brand turkeys at a higher price?

I miss the old deals that GE used to do where you got a free turkey for spending so much on your Advantage card. They did it for years when we lived in PA then still did it when we first moved here. I'd always managed to scrape out enough spending but would usually have an overflowing pantry from doing it 10 or 20 cents at a time with coupon items.

Edited to add: my bad, though the site is up, it looks like the coupons are no longer listed there.
I think this IP link still works for $.75 off glad products:
Coupons (http://print.coupons.com/Couponweb/Offers.aspx?pid=14862&nid=20&zid=fz92)
Kind of a weird combination, it lists KC Masterpiece and other products, but Glad is stated at the end of the list.

Okay jmupole1 - I see you are not exactly new here so you should know that you are required by GE law to post the FULL ad upon its arrival! :hysterical:
Now remember, the penalty for failure to post in its entirety is a tar and 'feathering' with expired hair dye coupons ! :wink7:

jmupole1, I don't have the ad yet so go ahead and type... I usually start saying I have it, then edit as I start typing. That way it already has a place and someone knows I am working on it.
I stalked my moms mailbox again and nothing. I waited and hour and even drove up the road to see if I could see the mail person.. nothing.. she must be runninglate today..
I think regular price on the Wishbone is 2.45 at my store.

Aw heck - How are any of us suppose to get to $30 in one transaction?!?!? :hysterical:
I'm sure it pre-Q though, prolly takes the discount when you hit total.

That's what I was thinking, it would almost have to be before coupons. So, any one of us can do that easily, but then take that total down to almost nothin lol...

I'd lay odds its preQ because of how the GE system works - there are no discounts that the cashier has to apply (Foodperks generates auto - they just have to approve it per customers okay) I'm thinking the computer applies it when you hit total, just like it does things like the free Wilton, and BOGO meats, etc. Then after you hit total you scan the Q's.

I wasn't a couponer a year ago and am curious about the turkey deal. Reading on the weekly ad post "Giant Eagle frozen Turkeys 49 cents lb. Won't be beat. Will match any competitor's ad on frozen turkeys." ... so does this mean they will only price match if you buy a GE brand frozen turkey and not do a brand-to-brand price match? Example: if you find a Butterball fresh turkey advertised somewhere for less than GE's Butterball price will they not price match that (and you walk out w/ a Butterball). Of course it never hurts to ask but I was just curious what is typical. And what are good prices to watch out for on fresh turkeys?
To the meat snobs out there ... how does the GE turkey compare to national brands (Butterball/Honeysuckle) and any fresh ones? I don't know what turkey I'm going to buy, cost & quality are both important. I spend extra for quality meat, especially "unadulterated" meat. I'd rather add my own ingredients than what some company's inject (see below). THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INPUT!
Thank you for contacting the Butterball Turkey Talk Line by email.
When there are dietary concerns, we advise purchasing Butterball Fresh Turkey and Butterball Fresh Breast of Turkey, which are all-natural and contain no added ingredients. The breast meat of Butterball Frozen Turkeys, including Butterball Frozen Stuffed Turkey, is deep basted with a patented recipe of ingredients to yield a more uniformly juicy and tender turkey after cooking. Individual ingredients (water, salt, sodium phosphate to retain natural juices, modified food starch [corn or potato source], dextrose and natural flavors -- no allergenic ingredients) are specified on the labels of all Butterball Frozen Turkeys and Butterball frozen line extension products. (Although wheat and rye gluten-free, the recipe does include 0.5 ppm corn protein.)
Honeysuckle: Thank you for contacting Honeysuckle White.
Our fresh and frozen whole turkeys are injected with a basting solution
that contains turkey broth (turkey juice and water), salt, sodium
phosphate, sugar and a natural flavoring that is an allergen free, non-dairy
butter flavoring.
