I have noticed many shoppers on this website discussing register reward deals that are not posted in my paper in the southeast Michigan area. I have discussed this several times with my Walgreens store manager and he tells me that if information regarding a register reward is not printed in the paper, he has no way to verify that what I am telling him is correct. I called corporate today and after a lengthy discussion we discovered that some regions received a 13 page ad this week and other regions received an 8 page ad. If you have noticed this and feel this it is unfair that all customers do not receive the same ads and opportunities to save money as others, please take a moment to e-mail corporate with a complaint to see if we can get this changed. Thank you for your help.

Living in a short ad area myself, I feel your pain. But yes, it is well known that there are 2 ads. The one good thing though is that the RR deals work for everyone (short and long ad). The difference is that short ad areas don't have nearly as many items at sale prices.

What I do though, hold my breath and wait for the RR to print, even though it wasn't advertised in the short ad. So far it's worked everytime! lol.

Even being in a long ad area the RR may be printing before and after its printed in the flyer. This happens with monthly deals all the time. RR goes for four weeks and its only advertised in flyer for one of those weeks...

...send in an e-mail but I doubt they will change. marketing is dictating different ads for different places. Just be glad you are here now and will never miss RR knowledge again.

There is a method to their madness about short (eight pages) vs long (13 pages) flyers.

They are not trying to cheat or short change you.

+

Even Rite Aid has different ads, based on where you live.

One reason are the different state liquor laws regarding the advertising and the sale of alcohol.

+

It is about target marketing an area / state / nation.

+

I recommend writing (it is better than an email) Walgreens about advertised items being out-of-stock and how Walgreens loses customers and market share because of it.

Oh, that last thing will get their attention!

(You gotta hit them in their pocketbook to get their attention)

:wink7:

Terence do you know anything more about the reasons for short and long ads? I get that it is marketing, but I guess what I don't quite understand is why the same locations ALWAYS get the long and the others ALWAYS get the short? I guess I would think that even if they didn't want to market product xyz to one location they might want to market product abc instead? I dunno. I'm not a marketing person, but I am curious about the reasoning behind it.

Terence do you know anything more about the reasons for short and long ads?

...I can think of some ...

+

• Some stores are performing better (or worse) than others so they do or they do not need, get, or want all pages.

+

• Contractual agreements.

+

• The amount of a store's competition (none, some or a lot) dictates the number of pages in their store flyer.

+

There is a lot that goes on 'behind the scenes' that customers really do not know about.

Many times we find out bits and pieces by taking to the help of the store managers,

Many times the information is also not accurate.

+

Things like half height / gate / wrap around pages allow the chain flexibility.

One reason is that the main part of the store flyer is printer weeks in advance.

Additional items (like holiday sales or grand openings) can be added to the store flyer using the half height / gate/ wrap around.

+

24 / 7 Walgreens ...

I have about five near me (I am, soooo spoiled).

I have noticed that they perform better since they are open longer and most likely pull in more $$$$.

All things considered, these locations seem to give me a better shopping experience.

Me, too! For instance, when I bought 2 Theraflu today ($3RR wyb 2, Mega-price at $5 ea), I don't think this deal was anywhere in our short ad. At least I knew the price was at $5 ea (otherwise reg. price $6.49 here), but I was simply hoding my breath until I saw the $3RR printed. If it didn't, I have no backing to proove that it was supposed to print RR...

Another disadvantage of short ad is that preview ad is usually long ad. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that people post ads in advance, but until Sunday morning when I actually see the ad at wag.com, I'm not toally sure what deals are included in short ad. Someone said that the very first and last page is the same between long and short ad, so at least I can make some guess, though.

As much as I don't like the short versus long ads, it really does me know good if my store never restocks. I get the long ad. But is there more ducolax since 2 weeks ago when it was advertised (small ones producing RR) or more of the 2 pack to go robitussin? How about Almay Foundation? I have been 3 times this week. So boo on WAGs.

Oh and Terry I haven't seen any posts from you in awhile. I must say I have missed your insights.

Another thing to consider ...

A chain constantly re-evaluates a program like weekly ads and / or RRs.

Short and long ads coupon be a sort of test.

Back in January 2008 ...

CVS, in their infinite wisdom, decided to stop printing and distributing their monthly ECBs (ExtraCare Buck)s booklets.

Well, they may have initially saved some bucks but none of the customers knew what items were ECB deals.

I guess corporate was depending on the stores to put out shelf sale tags mentioning the monthly ECB deals.

(Northeastern OH was a test market for this brainstorm and we CVS shoppers suffered terribly).

That did not happen and within six months we had the monthly ECB booklets in the store.

ummmmm....................just a thought on this????

IF we were to call walgreens and complain about having different ads in different places, would they just not come back with a reasonable explanation that:

COUPONS print in DIFERENT amounts in DIFFERENT places?????

my ads rarely if ever get the high value Q's..... so this is more than a Walgreens problem.....

Thanks to the OP and those in the discussion. This is one more thing I've learned on this site and gives me an idea why my local management seems to be clueless on this latest Almay deal.
