View Full Version : Giant Eagle ~ Question Not accepting SmartSource IPs?

Has anyone ever had any problems with your store not accepting the SmartSource IPs? At the old Wadsworth GE, I had a manager tell me that since they don't have the weird looking barcode that the Bricks do, on the upper right corner, they don't accept them. But they don't even scan that, so I am wondering if they said that because they might suspect it as counterfeit? On the other hand, I used some of the SS IPs on Lysol products a few weeks ago when they were on sale, and the cashier took them. But the same people work at the new Wadsworth GE (including that manager that refused them before) since they closed the old Wadsworth GE. It makes me not even want to print the SS IPs because I don't want the hassle of having to have them void the things they won't take the Qs for.
Anyone else have this experience?
Thanks!

The given ...
A retail establishment has the right to honor or not honor a coupon.
A customer has the right to shop somewhere else.
+
YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
Usually, a store manager lowers boom based on recent experiences.
Heck, a manager can say:
"From now on, our store will not accept IP coupons unless they are neatly (cut on the hash lines) cut.
+
I purposely boogie to the local public library (Cuyahoga County Public Library) to print out my IP coupons.
When I am there, doing my thing, it is like printing money!!!
I will continue to do it even if one store chain gives me grief.
Other chains accept them so I have a Plan B.

Yes. Mentor, OH GE , the Head Cashier told me if it didn't have that funky black box thing that it was a copy and they wouldn't take it. It really ticked me off that she outright told me that I was trying to use a copy when I knew that I printed it from a legit site.

I went to walmart on dec 3rd and was told that they will no longer accept smart source coupons because it does not have a 3rd bar code and also the price needs to be printed in the middle of the coupon. Also i had several coupons from the sunday paper and same thing, because the price was not in the center of the coupon, walmart would not take them.
I also printed out walmart coupon policy, which does not state this.

????? The price wasnt in the center? Are they nuts? :hysterical:
OP - it's definitely a YMMV thing when it comes to IPs -but if the store is a corporate owned store, maybe you should call corp and ask that they educate your store on the different kinds of IPs - maybe that store manager just doesnt realize there are other online coupon printing sites other than the typical bricks coupons that have the dot-scan barcode on top. But if your store has had an issue with coupon fakes, they might have to tighten the reigns for a while...which stinks for those who are legit in their coupon use and totally not fair, but understandable.

WHAT!!!:hysterical:They wont even take the Sunday insert coupons if the price is not in the center. :giggle2: Now THAT is one I have not heard yet. :wink7: I think a phone call to corporate is in order. I can kinda see some limits on IP (though I don't agree with it!) but to limit insert ones is just plain crazy! Would you mind posting what Walmart this is so I know if it is close enough to get ALL my coupons that don't have prices in the center ready to pay a visit?:hysterical6:

Anyone have their BOGO egg IP coupon turned away? My store did this to me today - stating "we don't accept coupons for free's". When I tried to argue that it was for buying 1 product and the getting 1 free I was shot down.

A cashier on The Strip had trouble getting it to go through and tried to say it was because I used a coupon for the first dozen I was buying. I briefly explained that wasn't correct and it worked in the past, but decided not to hold the line up so I paid then went to CS for reimbursement. CS read the coupon, checked the receipt and reimbursed me. Not one time did the "Free" part enter the conversation.

My store will not take any IP bogo coupons or IP free item coupons. It is listed on their coupon policy for this store on GE website.

Go to Wags - they have a dozen eggs for .99 so, 2 for .99 (and, if you have register rewards, free)

It depends at the Wadsworth GE. The managers will definitely reject them, but some of the cashiers will take them. I don't feel like playing Russian Roulette so I just take the SS IPs to Medina, where I've had no problems.
Wadsworth GE is an awesome store though!!

There are a couple of others that are in that area and shop, but I haven't met them in person. I did run into someone out of the area, Ashland, I believe, but she didn't give me her name or codename.

yes...i have to take that coupon to walmart or kroger...since those crazy ip free coupons (you remember the ones that were wwaaay over the normal price that people printed like crazy) one store wont take a bogo or a free ip...
i forgot that wags has eggs though!!
