Newbe....and got a question. while getting everything ready for triple couponing I saw some of the coupons I printed from the internet on the top say no doubling or tripling, however the barcode starts with a 5. Will these double or triple automatically when the cashier scans them?

Thanks:BigHand:

coupons that say do not double will double or triple automatically UNLESS they are over-ridden by your cashier. usually I have not had cashiers that will override them except once at publix(doubles) and once at HT during triples.

yes they should scan.
I guess you know that Harris Teeter has a limit of 2 internet coupons per visit or per day, at least that is what they told me.
My printer was not co-operating at the time and the colors were off. They accepted my single internet coupon, but suggested I print the page and do not clip the coupon, take the whole page. With the info at the top and bottom of the page, it will be very clear that it is a legitimate internet coupon.
As we use coupons we should strive to have things ready and organized so that everything goes smooth at the register. Sometimes a clerk, or a coupon that won't scan, etc. will interrupt this smooth trip through the checkout. I prefer that my clerks have no need to call over a manager.

If you go to triples with a pile of internet coupons you may attract more attention than you want, and it will be alot easier for management and staff to remember your face next time.

I had a Bi-Lo manager that was new and watched me every time I would enter the store. The very first time we met was at a register and I had 10 items and 10 coupons, which is Bi-Lo's limit, the right coupon for the right item and not expired. This manager could not stop wondering where I got so many like coupons. They read the front and back of the coupon. Finally they got transferred or replaced. Any law for me or you to buy 10 Sunday papers to get 10 coupons? This manager did not understand that such a thing is possible, I guess.

this will completely depend on your cashier. it will automatically double/triple unless they see it says not to and override it (to not double/triple). count on it NOT doubling/tripling in your total so that if it does its a nice surprise! :giggle2:

For the last 3 triple events (and all the time in between) we have had every coupon that said Do Not Double or Triple scanned in at face value.

That is at both stores in our town. It's made triples and most other coupon related deals at our Harris Teeter not worth messing with.

I have never had a coupon not double or triple unless it beeped and the clerk or manager used a magnifying glass on it. If it beeped it was a 9 and should have beeped. Or there have been rare occassions when perfectly good 5 coupons have beeped.

They must think that "do not double" is put there for all store chains including theirs. It would be totally illogical to think it was put there so they could refuse to double or triple it during a promotion. I've always been told it is put there for the store's that do not double.

Your experiences and mine are both totally opposite, so it apprears to be clerk specific, store specific, etc. event.
I will go read their coupon rules again but I've never known "do not double" to be part of their rules. It seems some stores want to have promotions but then they want to limit things. We have stores that have good B1G1 free sales, but only 2 items for free.
Other stores have limits on internet coupons per day. Other stores have limits of 4 like coupons.

It seems they want the advertising benefits of promotions and at the same time lower their expenses. I know one store, when the shelves are empty on Thursday of a 7 day promotion, they stay empty until the following Tuesday midnight. And they reserve the right to do this.
Some sales, if you don't go early you'll have to go the rain check route for the sale price. That does not help though, since rainchecks can not make up for the triples you missed because they did not restock the shelves. And there is a chance they had the items in the back store room and just held them back until the sale was over.

We all just have to play by their rules which can be inconsistent from store to store and chain to chain.

Oh we know it's store specific. Our two Harris Teeter's used to be great. Sometime over the summer they started following their coupon policy to the letter. It happened first in one store so we would just go to the other store. Now it's both stores.

The coupons will still double/triple when they are scanned but both our Harris Teeter's have their cashiers checking each coupon before scanning it now. If the coupon says DND on it then they punch in a code before they scan it. Then the coupon doesn't double or triple.

Stinks for us, but their coupon policy does say that they will not double or triple coupons that say they aren't supposed to double or triple so you can't really argue it.

We just sit back and pout and watch all of y'all get in on Triples without us. lol All the good coupons this time around are DND coupons.

DH(katncaed) tried to get be two of the cartons of Progresso broth yesterday and the manager came over to double check that the cashier punch in the code to make sure the coupons didn't triple because they knew the coupons on the broth say DND across the top.

Are the number of coupons that say "do not double" INCREASING?
It's got to be the manufacturer's unless the stores are requesting it on some types of items.

Why have doubles and triples if you are not prepared to double and triple all coupons that are on the correct product and have not expired?

Do the managers-clerks at your store know WHY "do not double" is on those coupons you had?

I'm in the Winston area. I've only encountered one HT here that manually enters the ones noted to not double, all the other HT's scan them and as long as it starts with at 5 it multiplies. I argued with the 1 HT, but got nowhere. So I had them delete out every one of the items affected and took those coupons to the other HT that would do it.

so you are saying that all the clerks and managers in that store, look at every coupon and look for "do not double"?

I find my clerks and managers do not even look at the expire date much less "do not double". They do not have time. You may be on a list of familar faces and they eagle eye your coupons every time you go in there. Other people, they may just scan them and see what happens and obviously only a 9 would beep.

Yes they do look at every single coupon. They don't just do it to us, I have heard many other people have their coupons turned down.

It's just not worth the trouble anymore for us. We keep hoping that they will go back to their old policy and DH (katncaed on here) will stop by at least once during a triple event just to check with a couple coupons.

Although it isn't just during triple/super events they are eagle eyed about coupons now all the time. At least they are consistent.

Bummer is that I had some local friends who were just starting getting into coupons that were turned down with DND coupons over the summer that just gave up on coupons totally. They said it made them feel like criminals.

So if you are in the Greenville NC area don't bother taking DND coupons to Harris Tetter. It doesn't matter if they are 5's. The computer will double or triple them but then the employees are supposed to take them off or put in the right code prior to scanning them.

I agree - some stores are just harder on all couponers than others. I'm not sure if it's the same HT here in Winston but there is one that treats IPs as if you wrote them yourself with a crayon in the parking lot! I tried to explain to the manager once exactly where I got one (the $4 Purina IPs from earlier this year), gave her the website name and everything so she could look it up. Well, then the treatment changed from me being a fraudulent IP user to me being a complete idiot ("well, ma'am, I know you THINK you got it from a legitimate site but sometimes people don't know how to read a website address and they're not sure what site they're on, it wouldn't be YOUR fault if it was a fake - the internet is tricky")

Oh my stars. With that kind of response, I'd mark them off as hopeless....:hysterical:

I have also been to this store and I avoid it like the plague and I try to warn all my friends - DO NOT GO THERE! We have 5 others in town so there is no need to go there.
