I was not supposed to get cash back from an EBT purchase.
The item was on sale for $1.89 . I had a $1/1 coupon.
Everything was fine until my EBT total was $1.89 when the self scanner had said .89. I told the attendant that cash was not supposed to be given back when EBT was used.
I was asked to use my EBT for the $1.89, and then they gave me $1.00 bill refund.
No complaints, other than I may have committed food stamp fraud.

actually....the $1 you got back was for the coupon itself...so i wouldnt consider YOU being fraudulent....but yes, it should have only charged the EBT .89

Does the receipt for the coupon show "1.00 -N"?

I don't know about cash back but when I have used EBT at WAGS their computer counts all coupons as cash so the EBT is the full amount and my cash oop for other items ends up tiny.

It took me a long time to figure this out but it kept happening to me at all the stores. I hope I hope this is ok to post here. For some reason whenever you use a coupon that is for food that has a 992 in it and use your food stamp card the food stamp card sees the coupon as cash not a coupon so it applies it to your cash purchases or if you did not buy anything your food stamp card would not pay for it tells the cashier to give you change. There is nothing you or the cashier or the store can do to stop it. It has happened to me alot and most of the time the store does not give you the change, however it will not take the coupon for food so it does charge your card the whole amount. I hope this helps!

thanks for the info, just remember not to use the barcoding on the coupons to purchase anything other than what is written on the coupon....
It always surprises me how people use the word fraud...
Fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual.
INTENTIONAL is the key word. If you didn't know it was going to happen, that is not fraud.

I do not buy anything wrong I buy exactly what the coupon says but it will not take the money off my food purchase because of the way the coupon is coded no matter what when I use the food stamp card. Wierd I know but it is just how it is. I have heard that 992 in the barcode is viewed as cash and that is why, just always purchase something non food when you are using that and then you do not have to worry aboit the cash back thing.
